I am getting really frustrated this morning! As the $ has now hit the magic $1.80 / £1 I have been TRYING to order my Travellers Cheques. What a palava!

First stop, M&S, good rates, commission free, free delivery, PERFECT. Until I try and pay for it and they will ONLY accept payment with an M&S card (which I dont want).

Second, Travelex. I locate a branch at Tower Hill in London, just around the corner from DHs work. Order the TCs, then it asks where I want to collect and the Tower Hill branch doesnt come up as an option!! DH wont go in and get it himself as he is too busy at work to "faff around for an hour whilst they sort 50 Japanese tourists first"...his words!

Third, I try my bank, Nat West. E-Mail them to see if they will match the rate of M&S and Travelex (NW are offering only $1.78) and they WONT match the others.

Fourth, give up online and hit the high st, but all the Travel Agents and the Post Office are all still $1.78.

Im thoroughly cheesed off with the whole thing!! Anyone have any other suggestions I could try??

Allie

Why don't you order from Travelex and arrange to pick up the travellers cheques from the airport on the day of your departure?

They guarantee the same rate as long as you make payment now.

Unfortunately, there is a maximum of 60 days from ordering to pick up...we dont go until December  .

Thanks anyway!! I will go back and double check that though!

Oh right I didn't realise that! How annoying!

It seems as though Marks & Spencers and Travelex are usually the only ones offering the highest rates. The only way would be to go into a Marks & Spencer store yourself and pay with your preferred method - you don't need the M&S card to buy in-store. Alternatively, wait behind the 50 Japanese tourists!

Allie,

the post office is usually very close to M&S rates and commission free for AMEX $ TC'S

hi allie:wave:

i was talking to a friend of mine(who works for thomas cook)and she told me they will match m&s rates::yes:: she said they will ring m&s to check first then match them,

I got my Travellers cheques from Thomas cook a couple of months back. They matched M&S and didn't charge commission on Travellers cheques either:hyper:

Thanks for the post - I have now been onto M&S online and ordered all my money for December! (Sorry Allie, I do have an M&S chargecard) $1.80 / £

The rate's bound to rise dramatically now I've done this LOL but it is so much better than the $1.44 / £ I got last time I went. So whatever happens now I'm happy :)

You could order from travelex and just make a special trip to the airport to pick them up...it needn't be the day you depart. Unless of course you live miles from the airport!!

allie5 have you looked at www.onlinefx.co.uk they deliver direct to your home address and today (16/7/04) they are offering $1.8107 for tc and cash!

Thanks Snookhams!! Got it from there in the end! Although Thomas Cook would match M&S, M&S had gone down to $1.79 by the time I got there!!

Happy with the rate I got from onlinefx though, thanks everyone for all your helpful suggestions!!

Allie
