Okay, so my parents leave 4 weeks from Friday and I am surprising my DD(6) by taking her down to see them and for MVMCP in just under 5 weeks. My mom fell on Sunday in the basement and finally went to the doctor yesterday and she broke her knee cap in two and is having surgery tomorrow to put it back together!!! Her surgeon encouraged her to still go on the trip and to rent an ECV. She is a very stubborn and strong woman so we will see!! She is still going to WDW and this will make for a totally new experience for us!!

She is crazy though, she called me last night to see if she I would take her shopping tonight!! She wants to finish shopping for DD's Birthday with is at the end of the month!!!

Wow.....

Nah, she's not crazy - she's determined! In fact, your mom sounds like if she could drive, she wouldn't even be calling you to take her shopping. Good for her! Make sure you go ONLY places that have either the scooter-type shopping carts, or a wheelchair (and I bet your mom can even, with a little practice, get herself around in one of those, too). Seriously, even for a short shopping trip it sounds like she should stay off her leg as much as possible.

Oh man, that has got to be a painful break -- I thought my Mom broke her kneecap a few weeks ago, luckily it was just bruised.

I just wouldn't mention using a ECV until you get there, it will only make her more stubborn :rotfl: Good luck and I hope she is blessed with fast healing!

Thank you for your kind words!! Mom and I chatted this morning and have decided that we are going to make the best of it and just take our time. We have been several times before, so we won't feel like we are missing lots if we just go at a slower pace, rather we are going to choose those items that are the most important to us!!

We almost cancelled a trip once when my mother broke her foot, I'm very glad we didn't. The CMs were so accommodating. She got around just fine.

Yowsa! That's a painful injury. My DD13 broke her kneecap twice in one year and it was pretty rough on her. Tell mom to take it easy, it'll all get done. Hope ya'll can still enjoy the trip :grouphug:

My goodness! I hope everything with your mother goes well. I can tell you that I saw several people in wheelchairs at WDW and everyone was very accomodating. She can still experience the magic!! pixiedust:

She must be one tough lady! Don't forget to go over to the disabilities board, should you want any specific advice on ECV's etc. Here's hoping for a quick recovery! :grouphug:

My husband was diagnosed with gout the day before one of our Disney trips. He was told to stay off his feet for a week. We got a manual wheelchair from an offsite place and it was one of the best trips we've ever had.

It's all in the attitude and it sounds like your mother has a great one. If she's worried about what people may thing, make up a sign that says "broke the knee on *date*" and then have a countdown until when she doesn't need the ECV anymore.

Have a great trip!
