I am not a member of AAA. Is it worth it to join just for the discount on the Universal hotels? What kind of discount do you get for the on-site hotels and admission tickets? I did join Loews, but I don't see a savings in the hotel rate. Am I missing something? Thanks for all your help these boards are great.

AAA rates are not always offered, you can check at the on-line hotel reservation page by entering AAA in the promo code box or by calling 1-800-be-a-star.

You don't need the AAA membership number to book, but you will need it at check-in.

For our 4-day reservation for August 28, the AAA rate was $159 at the RPR, then they offered Annual Passholder rates for a lot less so we switched. I also noticed they started offering "internet" rates for the same as the AAA rate for our dates.

If you see a good rate, grab it. If it saves you more than the cost of the AAA membership, you are ahead. We will also be staying at the Wilderness Lodge and the AAA rate saved us some money there too.

I would defintely weigh the difference between an AP rate and an AAA rate. Certainly grab the AAA rate if no APH rate is offered yet, but hold off as long as you can in buying the membership. Sometimes, depending on your travel dates, new APH rates will come out about a month before and some have been greatly discounted. The cost of a regular ticket + the extra for the AP may get you a better savings than the cost of a regular ticket + the extra for the AAA membership. Plus there are some better discounts for meals and shops with the AP.

The downside is that you don't get the Loews amenities, such as your welcome gift, with the AP rate, but you do with the AAA rate. However, I would gladly give up my milk and cookies for a great hotel rate!
