AAA v AP rates

I know that AP rates are not always available or always at the same % discount like AAA, but does anyone know if historically the AP rate is better than the AAA?

Yes, historically, AP has been better. BUT, AP has not always been available as much as AAA.

Sometimes AAA is better. I've seen that at both the value resorts and more expensive deluxe resorts.

USUALLY AP rates are better. But not always.

One thing I really like about booking thru Dreams Unlimited is that they will lower your rate if an AP rate comes out. I always get my AAA discount when I book, and if an AP rate comes out, they adjust it automatically. We usually go in October, and I have always ended up spending less on my room than first planned, thanks to codes and my AP.

Maxiesmom, when you book with Dreams Unlimited are you booking a package with the AAA discount for the room or are you only making a room only ressie? Do you know if you are able to make a package ressie with the AAA room discount with any TA or does it have to go through AAA. Thanks!

I have always just done room only. I don't eat enough to worry about the dining packages, so it is cheaper for me.

Interesting thread. We are planning a trip for early May 08. The mousesavers chart shows that there has been an AP discount every year for the time period we are planning on going. The AP also has the 20% off dining perk. If you book with Disney directly (room only ressie) and have already bought your AP will they automatically apply the discount or do you have to call back and beat the thousands of other people calling to get one of 80 slotted "discount rooms?" I guess I am asking even if the discount becomes available, do you have to beat everyone else out to get the discount rate and if so how hard is this to do?

I am a first timer by the way can you tell

Also I am intrigued by the Dreams Unlimited. Can they guarantee that if the AP rate becomes available they will be able to apply it to your booked vacation?

One time my AAA rate was only 1.80 more than the AP rate would be. I kept the AAA rate because this was during their time of the AP best rate and their stupid cancelation policies. The same year as the October "black hole". That was a fun year

One thing that helped tip the scales for me to purchase DVC.

Also I am intrigued by the Dreams Unlimited. Can they guarantee that if the AP rate becomes available they will be able to apply it to your booked vacation?

Yep. Just let your Deams travel agent know that you have an AP, and they will apply that rate if a discount becomes available. No hassle! They are great at getting hard to obtain ressies like CRT too.

I have read that with the AP passes you can book the room only ressie and then add the AP discount to your room. As long as you have the AP when you check in you are good. Is this true even with Dreams Unlimited? Do they book only packages or can you say start with the room ressie and a few months later add the park tickets etc. I am not sure if we are going to do a package or buy everything piece by piece. We have enough freq. flier miles for 3 tickets, just need to buy one. Not sure if we are doing the dining plan yet as we have food allergy issues and may be doing more sit downs and not very many counter service meals. I still have to do all the math on that one and see which way makes the most sense.
