We have a reservation for next February for a preferred campsite.
I called Disney today to apply a AAA discount to the reservation.
I was told they only show AAA discounts for Full Hookup and Premium sites right now.

My question is will a discount for Preferred sites show up at a later date?
Disney offered the option of switching to a Premium or Full Hookup site right now to get the discount but my preference would be to stay in the Preferred campsite location we have reserved.........but I also don't want to miss out on a discount and end up paying more for the Preferred site than we could pay for a Premium site with the discount.

I guess I don't understand why they (AAA or Disney) would exclude the Preferred sites.

golfknut,

I stayed in a Preferred this past April and the rate period changes for the Fort right around Valentine's Day. Before V-Day is winter rates and you might get a AAA discount. After V-Day is much higher spring rates which is when I was there.

The Preferred loops stayed pretty full so there is apparently no need to offer a discount. The way the AAA discounts work, they may be offered for certain types of sites (Premium) but not all types (Preferred). And not all sites in that type will get a discount. There may only be 50 discounted Premiums available on a given night. If you call and get the 49th one, congratulations. If I call and am the 51st one, I'm out of luck.

I also believe Disney/AAA does adjust the number of AAA discounts along the way since there is NO way now in July 2013 to know how booking levels can progress over the coming months. They may add more later. I made my ressie referenced above in Sep 2012 and asked for a discount with no luck. But I kept checking and got one applied to my ressie in Feb 2013.

So you can keep trying and hope for a discount to come out later or change your site type. No easy answer here.

Discounts aren't available for busy times like Easter week, Christmas, and they may even block out some site types in other date windows like Preferred.

PS - so try back in a week maybe and even if it doesn't work out then, keep trying.

PPS - I just called to check on my ressie for late March and was told there are no AAA campsite discounts yet but there are for cabins during those dates. So we will both have to keep trying.

Thanks,
I went ahead and changed our site type to a Premium.
With the discount we saved 20% off the regular rates and I think we'll enjoy our more centrally-located requested loop.

I did go online today and checked the availability of sites for our early February stay and noticed there were no Preferred sites available but Premium and Full Hookup sites were available.

Looking forward to our 12-night stay.

Do you know if AAA ever does discounts for the tent/partial sites in Jan?

I can't say for certain but that's a pretty slack time the entire month (other than around the MLK holiday) so there is little demand. Low demand times/site levels usually yield discounts. As I said, high demand times such as Christmas and Easter don't have AAA discounts usually.

You should keep calling and checking maybe every two weeks. That's what I'm gonna keep doing. If I have to switch like golfknut did to a Premium I will if the net price is lower.

It's part of the game. Don't sweat it - just work the plan.

I've been trying for AAA for Jan for full, no luck, yet. Be persistent last time I got it the Friday before our Sunday arrival.

Sometimes I hate calling Disney. I called yesterday to see if I could add AAA discount to my ressie and was told that they didn't release any 2014 discounts yet, just packages. I told her that I know my mom just added the AAA discount to her 2014 reservation and she told me that I must be confused. She wouldn't even check.

Called today and got AAA discount on Premium site as no preferred were available. Had a preferred site, but Premium was cheaper!!!!! In Jan 2014.

I would have called back to get someone else. AAA discounts are not released by Disney. She was talking about Disney discounts. She was confused.

I have called four times in the last two weeks and the ONLY answer I get is there are NO AAA discounts yet for the last week of March 2014. If anyone scores one, let me know. But since I have a Preferred site already reserved, I ask for it first. Then the CM says there are NO AAA discounts that week on ANY campsites. (Cabins yes, campsites no).

I might wait till closer to the trip. If bookings are a little slow maybe more AAA discounts will be released. I'd take a Premium site if it had a AAA discount but the Preferred's didn't. But given the fact it's only $2 a night difference, I want the Preferred.

But Denise said in one thread she kept calling and got an AAA discount the Friday before her trip so I will keep trying until arrival. :worship:

We reserved Preferred for last October and our friends as well. We wanted to be close to each other, put the requests in and everything. We at least figured asking for preferred we would be in loop 100, 200 or 300 so at least fairly close to each other.... They ended up moving us to Premium without asking, and we had no option to move back to preferred. And they didn't put us in the same premium loop. We threw a lil bit of a stink and they got us fairly close. We did cut them a lil slack because Hurricane Sandy hit while we were there and a lot of folk didn't leave as planned to avoid the path of it.... Point of the story, go for the discount.. because they could potentially move you anyways :thumbsup2

I just got AAA for Jan, they're slowly opening. March should be soon BE. :thumbsup2

We have a full hook up site booked for a week in August 2014 and got the 20% AAA discount. It was my 2nd attempt at booking this trip. The first rep said the discount could not be applied but I knew it could from reading this board :) I tried back a few days later and a different rep said she didn't think the discount was available for the campground but would check. Well she checked and we got the discount :) this will be our second trip to the Fort and the first for our toddler. Looking forward to it.

Yep ! Nov 3rd through the 14th 2014. Premium site. I asked for a preferred but the CM said the AAA discount wasn't available for that period. The premium site was less expensive than the full price preferred.

I just called and my dates of Nov 23- dec 13 showed no AAA discount.

There will not be AAA during Thanksgiving Holiday dates. I'm thinking you'll have to make 2 reservations. One during the holiday at full price and one for the other days and be able to get the AAA ???

I need AAA rates for my tent site March 26-30.:)

I just called the other day to see about AAA rates for our stay Jan 3-11. The CM said they hardly ever have discounts for the tent sites. Anyone know if this is true? If there's no discounts for the tent sites then I can stop calling in to try to get one.

I have to correct my previous post. When I opened my reservation I saw that the CM punched in 2013 not 2014. When I called to correct it, the CM said there weren't any AAA discounts available for that time period ? So by reading what others have posted here, I just keep calling back every so often and request that they look to see if a AAA discount is available for my ressie dates ?
