AAA Memberships..

I was actually under the impression that you could not get premium unless you had AAA already or something like that.
We do have the premium (we had basic years ago and the tow was over 100 miles, we paid $$$$ and learned ;)) and would not be without it now.

Two weeks ago my dh broke down on the parkway ramp, he had to pay 135. on cc as the AAA tow that came, (under contract with AAA) is not able to technically go on the parkway ramp...anyway, he told us to just send in receipt for the 100% reimbursement. I was thankful dh had cc on him (and a cell for that matter :rotfl:) and I called AAA, needless to say they said to send in receipt and literally in 3 days we had a check for 100% payback! That was nice and SUPER fast!!

I think the Gifting of AAA is wonderful and would not be surprised to see some type of offer or discount....no harm in asking!
Good Luck and safe driving!!:wizard:

No, I was able to get the premium without having a previous plan with AAA. Their data base is not that swift because it still does not recognize that it has 2 identical addresses and last names. My husband's (the one that we let go because I picked it up under my name to save $$$) AAA membership is still sending notices to remind him to not let it expire.

I was exactly the same way! I refused to get involved because of their political slant, but when I got my AAA bill one year the same day I got yet another offer from AARP I drank the Kool-aid and haven't looked back. My kids give me a hard time because I went back on my stance, but like the cheapskate that I am, I let my pocketbook over-ride my politics. I wish I was stronger instead of cheaper!!

Ha! There's the rub. Sticking with your principals or saving money! I hate it when that happens!:scared1:
Next year I will get my AAA bill and remember this thread and look to see how much the AARP is!
And probably succumb to the money savings!:rolleyes1
But then again, I may check out my insurance company's plan as mentioned above. Hoping that works. I really hate AARP.

Does the AAA ever have any discount codes for their premium plan? Like a code or something online that isn't necessarily from them?

It would just be me (I'm 62, if that matters) and I want the Premium AAA because they will tow my vehicle 100 miles (which would more than get it back to my DD's from the lake, if need be) and during the 7 months I'm up there, the places available to call for a car that won't start; changing a flat; etc., only accept AAA.. (Up there is more where I would need it than down here at DD's for the 5 winter months..)

Thanks for any info you may have..:)

I'm not sure where you are located, but here in the Denver area there was a good Groupon for AAA a few months ago. The only catch was you had to be a NEW member. This year without any discount my renewal is $80.00! Ouch!

The $80 renewal seems high but well worth it this last year when I had to use AAA 4 times. Saved me hundreds of dollars.

Have you been offered a better deal here in Colorado? When they sent me my renewal,, it was for $80.00. Mine expires next month.

No I haven't but I think the $80 is worth it especially since I am single and have an older Jeep and a classic car.

Well I'm thinking I would be considered "new" because I haven't had it since 2006 - I didn't bother to renew when it ran out at the end of the year.. Not sure if that will help me or hurt me, but we'll see..

Thanks again for the responses..:)

I had the regular and when we needed to tow it a longer way they let me upgrade to the premium. This happened two years in a row! My Windstar was always breaking down.

Every AAA is different, but in East Tennessee, it's the Plus membership that tows you 100 miles. I have the Premium, which tows you 200 miles. Have used the long tow twice to get DS's ancient car home from college to our local mechanic. The Premium is very expensive, but has been worth it until DS gets a newer car.

C.Ann and others -- you will have to inquire at your local AAA office, as even though AAA is a national brand, the auto clubs are all locally/regionally operated.

In other words, a code meant for "AAA South Jersey" won't work for "AAA Missouri" (the club representing Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, East Kansas, Southern Illinois, Southern Indiana & Texarkana, TX).

I have an AARP (free) and AAA(for roadside)-and mainly use both for Hotel discounts. We stay at Marriots a lot and they only take AAA-as does
The Swan Hotel at WDW!:lovestruc
