AAA is horrible

I do not think you can lump all the AAA agents into the same category and call them all "horrible". I have used mine that I found right here on the DIS for 2 DW trips, as have many of my neighbors. She is prompt and knowledgable. You get a great discount, too, on DW.

However, I got her to price out my upcoming DCL trip, and it was $110 or so more than DU, reason being that AAA does not get discounts w/ the cruise line. She said if she could book it thru the website for me, she could probably get me another $25 in shipboard credit, but that still would be more than DU, so I went w/ DU.

I don't think you will be able to transfer the ressie out of AAA. What I would do is talk to the manager of the travel agent at your AAA. Tell he or she of your concerns and ask to have your ressie transfer to a more competent agent.

If you can't make the extra payments, put them in a special account earmarked just for the cruise.

Of course you can transfer your ressie. Why couldn't you? :confused3

I do not believe it is that easy to get a TA to transfer your ressie. TA's make a commission from DCL when they book or have a ressie transfered to them.

If others have had an easy time of it, I stand corrected. As for me, I have never heard of it happening. If others wish to post their experiences in transferring a ressie from a TA, I would love to hear!!

In the end, it is your money and your TA can't hold your ressie hostage. I'm sure they would hate to see you go (with the comission thing and all) but that doesn't mean you can't dump them. The ressie is with DCL technically not the TA.

We almost dumped our TA who was planning our group for our wedding cruise (got married in Ocho Rios, Jamaica while on a cruise). The TA wasn't applying reduced fares for us.

She gave me the runaround for a few weeks, telling me they weren't available (when it was public on the cruise line's website) and then I finally called the cruise line directly. They said they couldn't make a change w/o the TA so they brought her in on a conference call. All the changes were made easily from that point on...but the TA kept saying that "we could have handled this w/o contacting the cruise line," while they were on the phone.

I had no problems w/ her after that. I was hesitant to change since she was our wedding planner too... but I would have if the problems continued!
