We currently have a AAA discount for our week-long Poly trip in January. I'm booking this on my own and want to make sure I know as soon as possible when the AP discount for January come out.

Anyone have any ideas? What's the best way to find out?

We are not AP holders, but I'd consider buying one if it was a really good room discount. Have others gotten fabulous AP discount in comparison to the AAA rate in the past?

I don't know when the AP rates come out, but I had a AAA rate on POFQ for December and switched it to an AP rate. I'm paying $105 a night at the AP rate and it was $116 a night at the AAA rate ($145 rack, I think). At one point, I had booked a $305 night rack rate room at CR for $239 at the AP rate for that same week (decided to go cheap instead). So, the AP rates can be a pretty significant discount.

I had booked the AAA rate for Nov. and then the AP came out but I did not get it, a few days later the General public rate special came out which I hear was even better for those days I had so I called AAA and they switched me to the new rate, saved $600 over the original quote from Disney on the same package except now I also get the AAA perks as I booked it through them.

The current discount out for Nov-Dec is better than AP discount. I priced 3 night AKL standard room with AP and it was $624.38. I then priced same room plus a 1 day base ticket under the current pkg discount and it came out to $636.15. It was only $12 The discount on the AP was $80 off & the pkg discount came out to $100. This is the first time I have seen the general public discount come out better than AP discount.

It seems with my experience that the difference between the AAA rate and the AP rate has been a savings of $11.00 a night for the deluxe resorts. I think my savings this year at the Allstar Music its about 7.50 a night. Every little bit helps.
The AAA rate generally is a nice savings over the rack rate. If you have AAA but not an AP I would not buy the AP simply for the resort discounts. If you have several trips in a year then the savings for the park admission and the hotel discounts are a good deal.

Good thing I booked AAA rate for my Dec trip to WL since there doesn't seem to be a AP rate for the week I'm going. At least I have some discount over rack rate.

I don't know what week you are going, but there are some AP rates avail at WL in a standard room now.

OP, seems to me like the AP rate is better than AAA, or that is the experience I have had, but I wan't able to get AP rate for part of my trip, but could at least get AAA for part and AP for the rest, so no rack rate for me.

We're going the first week of December. I tried calling again this morning and still not AP or FL Res Rate.

Last year, I had AAA rate for Boardwalk in January. Waited patiently until AP rates came out. When they did, I was shocked to find out that the AP rate was actually $1.00 MORE than what I already had through AAA. I was shocked and so was CM. Called back a couple time in the weeks leading up to vacation and it was always quoted the same: AP rate was $1.00 more! I had no reason to complain because I did get a really good discount with AAA but go figure...:confused3

Same here for my Ft. Wilderness Campground reservation. Last December AP rate was higher than AAA rate, and this October AP rate is higher than AAA rate. To say the least, I kept my AAA rate.

I had honestly considered dropping AAA after this year because we got a better deal for roadside assistance for our cars AND camper through Good Sam. However, I think I'll renew AAA for just me. My campsite discounts will more than cover the $45 single person fee.

Yeah, I was shocked to compare for our short trip in November. And, the dining package adds only $200 to our trip so I am seriously considering it for the first time. It is just my DD (age 9) and I. If I price a package with just one adult, it actually comes in cheaper than the AP rate I currently have booked! Guess WDW is trying to get new visitors, not us AP folks.
