I am a new AAA member! :cheer2:

How do I find out what type of discounts are offered to AAA members?

It depends on what season you are booking for, but is generally 5%- 20% off room only reservations at WDW.

Call reservations and tell them your dates and that you want to use your AAA discount - they will give you a quote. If you check that against the same reservation you price on the website, you'll be able to figure out the percentage.

I just booked WL for 8/23 - 8/31 for 15%off using my AAA discount. :)

can I join your thread also?
I signed up yesterday too & was wondering if to get the AAA discount you HAVE to book through AAA?

For those of you who use AAA discounts, do you book your whole package (tickets & DDP) or do you book just the room & then have Disney add on the rest?

What is the best way to go about it?

Jen,

Did you do room only? Also, did you need your AAA number when you booked the room?

CRO will book room only. I have always been asked for my AAA# any time I've booked using my AAA discount.

Yes, I did room only. From what I've read here at the Dis you have to book packages through a AAA travel agent - but you can book room only on your own by just giving your membership number. You do have to show your AAA card at checkin.

Since the discount is still really only a percentage off the room cost and the tickets are the same price either way, I decided not to book a package through an agent and to keep control of my reservation. Once an AAA agent books for you - they have to call to make changes or to apply a better discount code should one become available.

I haven't purchased my park tickets yet because I'm crossing my fingers a better general public or PIN code will come my way sometime between now and our trip. This way I can keep the room only and this discount, or upgrade to a package if a better code for one comes up.

I've done AAA three times now, so I sort of know the ropes.

See www.mousesavers.com for AAA discount rates which vary depending on the resort class and season of travel.

The AAA discount comes off the room portion of a package if you book a package. To book a package with the AAA discount, you must use an AAA agent. We're saving $400 off the price that Disney's CRO quoted us for the eight nights at the Poly. Generally, the more expensive the room, the more you'll save because it's a percentage off.

The AAA discount cannot be combined with any other discounts; therefore, if you're looking for free dining or one of those elusive codes people get, you cannot double dip so to speak and get that deal on top of AAA. It's only one per customer.

Some AAA agents are better than others, and some are misinformed.

If you want a room only and not a package, you can book that directly through Disney and get an AAA discount. However, you cannot get the DDP if you go this way because the DDP only comes with a package.

If you book a package with AAA, you do get a few perks including preferred parking at the parks, a discount for shopping in DTD, and the AAA Storytime at MK.

So if I book through AAA (it's 20% off when we are going) & another code comes up that is better, I would have to cancel that & get a brand new reservation through CRO?

Actually, AAA can book it for you with any code, and you'll get that discount. You just cannot stack the AAA discount plus the other code combined. But you can certainly book with AAA anyway. The travel agents there are regular travel agents who can book anything.

So technically the original AAA rate reservation would get canceled and changed to whatever new rate you found that was cheaper.

Last year I had my package booked through AAA. A disney code was released, and I couldn't get in touch with my AAA agent. There wasn't a lot of availability, so I booked through CRO. By the time my AAA agent called, the room I wanted was no longer available, so I cancelled my AAA package and stuck with my CRO reservation. Moral of the story: keep on top of things yourself.

Use AAA travel agency and you can save drastic money! You can still use the promo codes if & when they come out. You can get a "AAA" rate on rooms, but if you're looking for an entire package at a discounted rate, book throught AAA Travel.
