AAA discount?

We already booked our trip through Disney (staying at Contemporary plus park tickets). Unfortunately we don't have any discount codes but I am keeping a watch out. After learning here that a pin might be assigned to my name, I called and asked. No pin for us. I also asked about an AAA discount. She told me that I have to book that through AAA. So I have to book a new reservation through AAA and then call Disney and cancel my existing one? Does that sound right? Just want to make sure before I go to all of the trouble.

You can book a room only and get the AAA discount if they have any rooms available with that discount direct through disney.

If you have a package, you would need to go through an AAA travel agent to get any available AAA discounts. But once you go through a travel agency, they own the reservation and are the ones who have to make any adjustments to it which is kind of a pain.

I'd rather not get a discount than deal with not being in control of my reservations.

That really isn't true. I made our original package reservation for Aug. through Disney with no discount. I then contacted AAA and they gave me pricing for the same package with the AAA discount. My AAA agent just transferred the package to their control, applied the discount and I kept the same deposit that I had already paid and kept the same reservation no. If you have a AAA agent you want to use, just contact them and they should be able to transfer the reservation - you will have to send permission to Disney for this. My agent gave me a fax number to send it to and I just told them that I gave AAA permission to take over my reservation. I just included the agents name and the AAA office with email, phone, etc. and it was completed and I had the new confirmation in hand within a week.

I just had a CM tell me the same thing, but when I asked if it were the same thing if I booked a room only, he said he could apply the AAA discount to the reservation that way. For some reason, you have to book through AAA or transfer the reservation to AAA if you want the discount on packages only - room only can be kept with Disney directly.

I prefer to have complete control over my reservation.
