AAA Discount

Since I am clearly not getting a discount for my trip in October... I am exploring other options, such as the AAA discount. I have been considering joining for some time now and this might be as good a reason as any.

Just a couple of easy questions:
1-How much is the discount and what are the rules of the discount.?
2-Do I have to book through AAA or can I apply the discount to an existing reservation?

Thanks in advance!

10%-20% off room rates, depending on date. Some peak dates have no discount. Does not apply to suites, as far as I know.

You can book "room only" AAA rates directly with Disney or through any travel agent. AAA vacation packages must be booked through AAA.

I booked our mod resort - also for October - through Disney and got a 15% discount for room only. I decided to go that route, and then rebook if Disney offered a deeper discount. Since they haven't, I'm happy to at least have 15%off the rack rate. In the past, I've done it this way instead of booking a package through AAA, because the room discounts at WDW have been better.

Last year, I was also able to purchase 4- or 5-day park hopper tickets through our local AAA office at a reduced price. It was a significantly better discount than what I found through sites like Undercover Tourist, which was a very pleasant surprise. This year, I called my AAA office, and they told me they weren't selling the Disney tickets now and didn't know if they would be offering them in the future. I think the ticket deals that AAA membership provides varies from region to region, so you would have to check with your local office to find out if you could get tickets through them without booking a complete vacation package.

Good luck, and enjoy your October trip! I know we will!!! :yay:

I booked through AAA for our October trip and received an 11% discount off of room only. It was better than nothing and it more than made up for the price of the membership (which I already had). The travel agent is very helpful and said that if another (better) discount comes out, she can switch it (as long as it is available at our resort). You still get all the package perks with the magic your way package and can buy the dining package or Disney's travel insurance (which she said was even better than AAAs insurance if you have kids since kids come free on the Disney insurance). You also get some AAA perks - nothing huge but nice (like a AAA parking pass for closer parking, a diamond card you can use to get some extra dining/shopping discounts).

I was skeptical to do the whole thing because I like to book my vacations myself but for a couple hundred dollars savings, I was willing :thumbsup2

I've been a member of AAA for several years. We have gotten AAA discounts at WDW in the past at Fort Wilderness. I think it was about 10-15% off. I would just make the reservation and ask to have the AAA discount applied. Only so many were made available, and if they were still available it would be applied.

Also, in the past, I was able to get 15% off the little speed racer boats at the marina.

I do like my AAA membership in that it includes road service and towing. I can also get "free" maps and travel books, which has been great.

Additionally, there is usually a AAA discount for hotel rooms and sometimes admission tickets at other places. Also get a AAA discount of 5-10% off at various local merchants like sporting goods and tires. They will generally put a "Show Your Card" sticker in their window; however, I try to ask as well. I think Hard Rock Cafe and some other restaurants would also give you a discount with a AAA membership.

I like to take traveler's checks to Las Vegas, I you get those for no charge at the AAA office as well.

So, most years, it more than pays for itself - you just have to remember to use it.

I have never used AAA discont at Disney but I did use it this past April when we went to Universal. On that trip alone it more than paid for itself in the discounts we recieved (and as pp stated you can use it at the Hard Rock). It comes in very handy in everyday life as well, you would be surprised to see how many places you can get a discount at with your card (New York and Co. gives you a discount:woohoo:) There are many on-line merchants that will give a 5-1-% discount if you shop with them via the AAA web-site.

It's also nice to have if you need any road-side assistance (which is why we have it). When I was pregnant with DS6 I got a flat on my way to work (at 4:30am). Needless to say I was not about to change the tire myself since I was pregnant and high-risk (yes I would have changed it otherwise). It was worth it's weight in gold at that point:thumbsup2

I'm going to try AAA for my WDW trip next year.

I've only been a member for about five years and I never knew how many discounts you can get by having a AAA card.

My dates are also blacked out for FD and with no GP discount in sight I'd like to get a CAA discount for our October trip.

My question is, can I apply the discount to the room only rack rate reservation I have at POFQ? Or do I have to do a new reservation and hope that there's CAA rooms available?

Nancy, you can apply the AAA discount (if available) to your room only rack rate room Reservation. You do not have to rebook, just modify the reservation.
