AAA discount vs. Disney codes

Are the AAA discount rates usually close to what a code gets you? Aside from the dining offer last year, what savings do the codes generally give you? I'm up in the air because I just know that as soon as I join AAA, Disney will release a code. Of course, if I don't.... well, you know. :sad2:

On another note, I talked to a CM at CRO roday, and asked them if there were any discounts coming up soon - hoping to catch her off guard and get a little info. :smooth: But, she didn't sound at all hopeful, just told me to watch the season and try to visit during value pricing if I could. :rolleyes2

there have not been any general disney discount codes lately. the only codes have been AAA discounts and discounts for annual pass holders, and for florida residents. You can get the AAA discount and purchase the dining package by using a AAA travel agent. By joining AAA you can also get other discounts throughout the year at places other than Disney. There are movie ticket discounts, discounts for car service and other things. It may be very easy to get your money back even without a using it for a disney discount.

The different discounts can vary. Last summer I remember that the AP discounts were literally only a couple of dollars better than AAA discounts. In some cases, people were reporting that their AAA discounts came out ahead.

Last fall, a general-public discount came out that was MUCH better than AAA. Not sure what the AP discount was at that time, but the public discount was the best.

During the last 5 years of being a member of the DIS boards, I've seen it all though, so unfortunately you really have to wait and see what the discounts would be for any given time period.

It may be worth it to get a price from AAA. I recently made reservations for November and saved about $750.00 by going with them. We are now staying at the Poly! :cool1:

That wasn't my experience. When the public codes came out last fall, they released an AAA code as well. I already had a reservation through AAA at the time, so I priced out the general code and my AAA agent priced out my ressie with the new AAA code and the AAA code saved me an additional $150 on my existing reservation for an overall savings of $450 off the rack rate (2 GV rooms at Poly). When I priced out the general code, it was only a $3 savings over my ORIGINAL AAA ressie.

Next to Disney, AAA is the biggest seller of WDW packages. Except for AP codes, I don't think Disney will ever release a general code that will undercut AAA - I believe it would jeopardize that business relationship.

If you aren't even considering an AP, I think AAA is the way to go for discounts.

Ia that for this November...I am thinking of going there if the rates are good?

The last time I got a room-only code it was for June 2004 and it was about 30% off. My AAA rate for this July is 15% off. The room-only codes from Disney were great but the seem to be a thing of the past. With a AAA membership, you get much more than hotel discounts though. If you need road-side assistance for any reason it more than pays for itself with one use. Both my daughter and husband are commuters and it is worth the $50 a year membership for peace of mind alone. Plus, you do get discounts in many restaurants and retail stores as well as hotels. Something to think about...

May 2005 AAA Discount Was 10 Percent Off Rack Rate. AP Discount For AKL And Polynesian Was 100 Dollars Off Rack Rate. AP Was A Much Better Deal. These Were Room Only Reservations, Not A Package Deal.
