AAA discount and dining plan??

I have a question regarding AAA discounts and the free dining plan that was offered for hurricane season.

I was under the impression that in order to get the free dining, you had to pay rack rate for your room (no discounts), but then I thought I had remembered reading about a AAA discount and the dining plan? Is that only if you are paying for the dining plan, and not with the free dining? Did it have to be booked through AAA or was it available straight through disney? Anyone have any info on an AAA discount with free dining or even with just adding the dining plan and paying for it?

Sorry if this has been covered, but I tried a search and got nowhere.

I is my understanding that free dining is almost over, and that it had to be booked several months ago, so it is not available. Also, if you want the AAA discount and the DDP, you have to book thru a AAA agent. You cannot book a AAA discounted room and then add the DDP. Only AAA agents have the 'power' do give you their discount and the DDP.

from what I was told, both by an AAA travel agent and an "outside' travel agent, you could use AAA to book the free dining pkg, but you would not get any additional discount on the room. if you wanted a discount, either thru AAA or disney itself (b/c they released some room-only and other discounts), then you couldn't get the free dining. It was an either/or thing. I didn't end up using AAA b/c the woman didn't seem that knowledgeable about disney and since we *were* getting the free dining, there was no additional benefit to using AAA.

I do realize that free dining is over, I'm just hoping for next year.
DH said no more disney for next year, so I'm searching for possible ways to convince him. His sister is going next year so upon doing some research for her and mentioning the possibility of free dining, I kind of saw DH's eyes light up a little teeny, tiny bit, lol! He joined into the conversation with a "wow, that's a great deal"! So, I'm hoping...perhaps if they offer free dining again... maybe, just maybe...

I was at Disney from 8/23 0 9/2 and I booked through AAA. We booked before the free DP was announced. Upon the announcement our reservation was switched to the free DP but there was no longer discount on the rooms. So booking through AAA for free dining does not get you a discount on the rooms also. But the free DP save us much more than the room discount did. Good Luck
