AAA disc.

I always call or email my local AAA office and ask an agent to shop rates for me. Generally, I get the best rates this way (maybe 10-20% less). We're booked at RPR next month - I called Loews reservations, asked for the AAA rate, (got upgrade for Loews platinum) . I then called AAA but the rate was much better booking throught Loews. I would encourage you to get rates from AAA and from Loews and compare.

you can also look at www.aaa.com To narrow your seach, when it asks for a specific hotel brand, just click on Loews Hotels.
I've also entered AAA in the Promotion Code box on Universal's website. Good to know if your local AAA office is closed.

One thing to consider when shopping for a AAA rate is that if you are a Loews First member, the AAA rate is only eligible for upgrades if booked directly through Loews. You need to call to book a AAA rate and have them apply your Loews First number.

No it doesnt...you have to go directly to AAA.com or call them. At least thats what I had to do.

But, as T-and-A mentioned above, IF you go through AAA, you are booking through a third party travel agency and the rate may not be a Loews-First qualifying rate. Consequently, no welcome gift and more importantly, your nights won't count towards the next level of Loews.

You can get the AAA rates via AAA, but always remember to book it through Loews by calling them. That way it may be a Loews qualifying rate.

And I say "may be" a qualifying rate because in 2008, I have already had two managers at the hotels tell me that AAA is no longer a qualifying Loews-First rate, although they were honoring it for this year if already booked. So, don't know what will happen with AAA and Loews-First next year. Best to check with the Loews-First line to see if it is a qualifying rate.

But I thought I read here that AAA IS a qualifying rate? Now you have me really confused....

It always has been a qualifying rate. And it seems like they are still honoring it. But just as a forwarning, I have heard rumblings from several managers that it is no longer (or is no longer going to be) a compatible rate. I had a AAA rate in March and they told me it was not qualifying for our Platinum upgrade, but that they were going to honor it and give us the suite anyway.

So, just best to always, always book through the Loews Hotels line just to make sure.

Booking through AAA can occasionally be considered a package and not a qualifying rate.

From now on, I will definitely call Loews, tell them I am AAA, so that I will not be dealing with any travel agent. I will be able to ask for non-smoking rooms, fridges, whether I want Villa or West wing, and other details; once you book through Univacations or AAA, you the paying customer, are not able to do.

If you book by yourself, if there are problems you can handle it without having to wait on an agent to help.:goodvibes

As Damo said: The problems with agents is that we often know a lot more than they do!!!:surfweb:
