I'm hoping someone out there can advise. We just joined CAA temporarily. They sent us a card that expires March 15th to sample the club 'perks'. We will be at Universal March 12th. We've already booked our room, purchased park tickets etc. So do you think I can use it at check in for reduced hotel rate or show the card at restaurants for discounts on food? If so how much discount? Just trying to decide if it's worth it or not? If we choose to become members it's aprox. $53 a year. Our car is newer and we've never really seen the need to spend extra. BUT we do travel... So just wondering if this might be a nice little card to have? We're always seeing triple A rates etc. so trying to decide if this is a good idea?popcorn::

Any comments are welcome, helpful and very much appreciated. :confused3

I'm not sure about a temporary card being good for discounts. You can always show it and see what happens. You can get discounts off food and merchandise normally but again...not sure about a temporary card.

I've been a CAA member for years...rarely have ever used the card for car issues. Once my husband's truck needed towed, that alone would have been over $100 so there was 2 years of membership. I also use to have a bad habit of locking my keys in my car, and their drivers are very good with a slim jim.
Where it does come in handy is booking hotel/car rentals etc. the CAA/AAA rate can be quite a bit lower than the regular rate and also the free travel books, maps etc. are great. I figure the card pays for it self in those savings and I have the piece of mind that if something happens I get help...even new cars get flat tires or dead batteries.

I belong to AAA and just this week my car's ignition locked up. Called a locksmith, he replaced the tumblers, total bill $135. He asked if we had AAA, and then knocked $100 off the bill.

I LOVE my AAA card. Discounts at hotels, certain restaurants, park admissions, plus it's always there when you travel. Even a new car can experience problems, or you could have a flat, lock keys in the car, or some sudden problem. It's well worth the cost.

Become a full time member, the card often pays for itself with the discounts on hotels, attractions and movie passes.

Our discount on RPH stay more than covered the membership and by the time we use it for food and gift shops, it will have saved us over a hundred dollars at Universal alone.

in order to receive the AAA discounted room rate, you would have to call and ask if you can modify your room rate with the AAA.
you would not recieve the discount if you showed it when you checked in.
it has to be mentioned at booking.

usually the hotels only offer a certain % of rooms for discounts.

i am not familar with a temporary card.
i have had my AAA card for over 8 years.

it's more than just for universal that i take advantage of the discounts it is valid for.
shop online at the aaa site, use it for hotels anywhere, resturants, etc.

i think it is well worth it.

for what i pay for my card, under $50 a year, gives me great deals and savings.

i used to use my APH only at the parks and resorts for the 15% discount.
well, at first i got a 20% discount, then the 15 and now it is only 10% for ap holders.

when that happened, i started using my aaa at the parks.
