AAA and AA

I know as a member of the AA we get certain discounts etc whilst in florida, but I was wondering is this just applicable to florida or is this all of the US??.
Im in the process of booking hotels for our trip to vegas, and they all seem to have a little tick box if you have AAA(you get a discount), if I ticked this would my AA card be the same??.

It's valid throughout the US.

You must apply - through the AA - for the "North America SHow Your Card" card and this is what you use abroad. (there is also a european one for anyone visiting there ).
