Hi,
I know that Disney recognise Irish and U.K. AA membership when giving AAA discounts but I heard on the Codes & Rates board that in order to get an AAA package discount (as opposed to AAA room only discount) it's necessary to ring the AAA and book by phone. Is there any way to do that when you're not in the U.S.? Anyone know? Last year we got great AP discounts but I don't think I'll renew the AP this year, I'd like to try the Dining package but it would be nice to get it at a discounted rate?
Thanks.

I would call CRO and ask them direclty if you can book a package and get AAA discount package direclty with them.

How do you get a discount on the AP??

Hi Laura,

I thought Deb meant she got a room discount with her AP, not a discount on her AP :)

I spoke to CRO last week re AA discount on hotel reservations (room only). Both the CM and her supervisor stated they will not give a discount to (British) AA members :( . I did find that you can buy accommodation only from virgin holidays which works out cheaper than buying direct from disney.

You were given false information. WDW do accept AA members for AAA discounts on room only rates.

I have used our AA membership numerous times to receive a resort discount (usually about 20% off of the rack rate). If you call the AA here in the UK, they should tell you the same. Additionaly, the AA card can be used for 10% discount off of food and merchandise at Universal Orlando.

Edited to add - This is from the AA website -
Over 50,000 businesses participate in the 'Show Your Card & Save' scheme, run by the American Automobile Association (AAA), and they're easily recognised by the 'Show Your Card & Save' sticker displayed in the window or on the cash register. Simply show your AA membership card to receive your discount.

I am 100% sure that WDW participate actively in the "show your card and save" scheme.

Yeah, before phoning them I was positive I would get a discount, as I knew other people had done in the past. I did get her to go and check, which she told me she had done when she came back a few minutes later, but it was still a no. Maybe she was having a "little britain tv show" moment..."Computer says no".

LOL...quite probably! Last year I also had a CM who have said that they could not apply an AAA discount for AA members. I just politely ended the call and then called back and spoke to someone different, who was more than happy to apply the discounted rate.

Usually I use Dreams Unlimited. They do all the hard work for you!

I can def confirm that Disney do give an AA discount on rooms only, but you have to tell them AAA or they think you are an alcoholic and do not understand.

Thanks for the replies folks!

:rotfl2: Indeed she was! As Frances999 said, you can definitely get room discounts using your AA card because both organisations (and the Irish one too along with many other European AA divisions) are part of the 'Show Your Card' scheme. As Frances said, don't give up, keep onto them about discounts. It's not just Disney - most hotels in Orlando will give AA discounts. I went through Small World Vacations last year (who are similar to Dreams Unlimited) and I got a quote from them for an AA discounted room and she triple checked for me that it was ok for me to receive the discount.

:rotfl: That could indeed be disastrous - me being IRISH and talking AA to Disney *hiccup*. lol! :drinking1

I will call CRO and see what they say although I believe all AAA discounted packages must be done through an AAA office in the U.S. I won't give up yet!!

Laura, as Miffy said, I didn't get a discount on my AP - I was referring to room discounts available to AP holders - if that's what you were asking about I'd be glad to give you more info on how to get those discounts (not that there's always discounts available but when they are they can be generous).
