A Wigdout trip report, DISmeets, Flashing Jelly Rings and Manpris, Oh MY!

Three days camping with 112 5th graders? :scared1: I need to hear more about this!

Yep, we leave Wednesday morning and return Friday afternoon. We have 8 staff members and 8 dads going with. We go to a camp in the mountains (near Gatlinburg, kind of) and stay in cabins of 10 or so kids and 2 adults. The planned activities include catching insects in a stream, reading map, hiking to a waterfall, completing a challenge course, dancing folk dances, climbing a rock wall, and telling stories around a campfire. The real activities include cleaning up somebody's puke or nose bleed, handing out medicine three times a day (YES, your child needs to bring his ritalin!!), comforting criers who've never been away from their mommies, patching up bloody knees for people who've forgotten that running is against the rule, confiscating flashlights shined in people's eyes and smuggled in cell phones, and going behind the dining hall to drink my own smuggled in Diet Cokes!!

It's the highlight of our year! :rotfl2:

(Seriously, I do love it. I guess I'm crazy!)

Ooo...I've never been to a state fair...hmmm...I think we have one in Pa.-near Harrisburg but I'm not sure...

A Kansas state fair sounds like the real deal...:thumbsup2

What did you and the 60 2nd graders & company do there?:goodvibes
Since you asked.....

We saw a butter sculpture.

We saw turkeys.

We visited a petting zoo with biting animals.....:confused3

185.jpg

and not biting animals.

186.jpg

We visited an electral safety demonstration, they blew the end off of a hotdog!

191.jpg

Then we lunched while watching a performance of "Red Riding Hood".

198.jpg

We saw cakes and clothing made of duct tape!

195.jpg

194.jpg

Yes, that is all duct tape!

On our way out we were able to visit a grand champion...

We sure had some tired children on the way back!

We interrupt your regularly scheduled trip report for this commercial break:

I had lunch with Hannah today. Before I left I talked to the nurse about what they do when a child looses a tooth at school. There are no treasure boxes. If they have them in stock, they put the tooth in a cheesy looking plastic thing shaped like a tooth. If they're out of those they get put in a baggy.

Now back to the trip report.
Thanks for checking! I guess that plastic tooth container is better than the plastic bag....
That's the kind of things they show on TV classrooms - all the students sitting quietly and raising their hands, standing in nice straight lines, etc. That's what tricks some young people into going to college to be a teacher. Then they find out the real truth and they are like :scared1:!
They totally sucked me in with the fake films....

Glad you had a good time, wigd, and I'm glad your lost student was found. I know that mom was in a panic! Hope you got a well-deserved night's sleep.
I was really tired, had to be ready for a sub the following day so we could sit in meetings all day. We also "got" to break into groups and work on curriculum mapping.....yahooo!
That poor mom was in such a panic, I felt terrible for her! I was one of my really good kids so I was surprised...:
confused:

When you are ready to take a walk around Hollywood Studios, come on over to the TR, because I'm getting ready to put those up in a few minutes. Enjoy your two days off!
I'll be heading over your way really soon!
I hope you are spending your weekend with that knee propped up!

I'll bet you do love it, it sounds fabulous! I can only imagine the amount of planning a camping trip like that takes!

Great CP pictures, Wigd! I love the one of Baylor with Eeyore. I really like Baylor's shirt, too. Is that a cougar? The breakfast pizza was so delicious, but I was not a fan of the lasagna with the fruit in it. Yuck.

The fair looks fun! Our county fair starts today and the kids have a 1/2 day of school on Monday to attend. Some of my girls' friends are in 4H so we'll probably go and see their exhibits.

I'm pretty sure he is wearing a "puma" brand shirt at CP. It really does look like a cougar doesn't it? I think that I liked them both. Does the lasagna have some pudding in it as well?

It will be fun to see exhibits done by someone that you know! I didn't know anyone with an entry...
How fun to have a half day off!

These are some great photos!!! We did the fair in Oregon this summer, they love seeing all the livestock, etc. But you took some impressive shots -- LOVE that butter sculpture! VERY neat!! wow... That is some butter...

That butter sculpture was very cool, VERY COOL.......
It's lots of fun to walk through the livestock barns and chat with the kids about their entries!

Anita thanks for sharing those pictures!! Looks like a lot of fun things were seen and done!! Glad you survived!!!:thumbsup2

Great update Anita!! I don't think my DD10 would join that parade either. So, I'm guessing this is probably Baylor's last time. :sad1: That means they're growing up. :sad1::sad1: My oldest turned 18 today!!! AUGHHHHH
Looks like you had a farmtastic time at the state fair! I'm not usually a fair person, except for fair food! :rolleyes1

Thanks for posting the pictures...Looks like fun...:goodvibes

I thought some of those cakes looked disturbing real...not like duct tape at all...:confused3

Aww...sweet little calf...

I especially love the pictures of the chicken and turkey-it seems I have an odd attraction to poultry...:lmao:

Reminds me a little of Charlotte's Web...when Wilbur keeps winning local prizes until he finally winds up at the state fair...David's teacher is reading that aloud to his class now...

I'll have to keep an eye out for one in the tri-state area...which for me is PA, NJ and DE...David would love it...

I've got some better pictures that you would remember from last Saturday!

I think he's probably twirled his last napkin while following a character around a restaurant.....

Fair food, yummmmmmm, I will post a couple more fair pictures that include some food!

I don't think I was very clear with my caption, the cakes were real, the clothes, were made from duct tape.....sorry.:cutie:
We are going to read "Charlotte's Web" in the spring, I'll bet I cry...
I'll bet David would love going to the fair!

I thought I'd post a few more pictures of the Kansas State Fair trip we took on Saturday. There were a few things there that really had me missing Disney World.....

This place had me thinking of Caseys and the yummy corn dog nuggets!

122-2.jpg

We have a version of this World Showcase favorite.

120-2.jpg

Baylor is again parted with his money by a basketball shooting game, just like on the boardwalk. :rotfl:

132-1.jpg

Again he is a winner! I was hoping for the Hello Kitty, but Baylor chose the stuffed President Obama!

133-1.jpg

What do you think? Could it be Dumbo's cousin?

135.jpg

Could the Mad Hatter be running around the Kansas State Fair?

134.jpg

Probably not but we had a good time looking at the attractions and remembering the all that we love about Disney....

Poor Marc had to fight a woman for our fresh potato chips. He was waiting and she came crowding up and tried to snatch them right out of his hand. He hung on tight and the worker told her that they were indeed ours and not hers, good thing, we were hungry and they were very good!

139.jpg

Baylor posed with the president on the front lawn of the White House.

140.jpg

Then it was time to make our way toward the gate...

138.jpg

We buckled up and headed for home. Baylor, Max and the president rode in the back!

147.jpg

Rope Drop Drama, coming tomorra!

The butter sculpture was pretty amazing!

Cool pictures of all the livestock -- that baby calf is just too cute!
That calf was really cute, at one point it tried to stand up while we were watching but those legs were just too wobbly and we had to move on. We visited the birthing barn and they had a cow that was ready to deliver, we hurried the kids on out, I figured that might scar them for life!:scared1:
A duct tape bikini? Did you order one of those for your Cruise? ;)
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: You're funny.....:rolleyes1

Okay, so Baylor is walking around with a big stuffed Obama doll? :rotfl:[/QUOTE]
Yes, I must admit that we are among the few liberals in this very conservative state. Walking around the Kansas State Fair with Obama got us some very strange looks......;)
Hey, duct tape probably offers lots of support... :rotfl:

You know, I think you are right, I may have to try and see if I can find the pattern for that duct tape bikini, and add a few more rolls to make a suitable suit for myself!:rotfl2:

The Obama doll is definitely funny, but my favorite has to be the Beer Garden! Any OoomPaa bands in there??? :lmao:

I loved the duct tape camo pants. Too cool!! The bikini...maybe not!!

I have to agree though-- fair food is the best. Those potato chips looked yummo!!

LOL!! I love the pictures of Disney memories found at the Kansas State Fair!! That is too funny!!!

YAY for Baylor winning and the pictures of him and the President are too hilarious!! I"m sure he is having a blast with that LOL!!
