A Wigdout trip report, DISmeets, Flashing Jelly Rings and Manpris, Oh MY!

ok I am finally all caught up!!
Harper was so cute in the little birthday outfit!!
Your bulletin board is awesome! I did a disney one too... I should take a picture of it! It turned out really cute! Are you going to post pictures of your classroom?
I think about you all the time at school because some of the boys wear some boypris lol
I didn't read all the chatting in between updates because I really wanted to catch up so now I am confused... why do you have squirrels?

Our little house guests.
As many of you know Marc found a baby squirrel out by our pool last Friday. The little guy was moved away from our dogs and put in a box and left in a spot for his mother to come and take him back to the nest. Nine hours later he was still in the box, panting, and we feared he would starve to death. We brought him in.....
I made an emergency hydrating mix that I found on the internet and gave him a little with an eyedropper. We left for a football scrimmage and decided that if he was still alive when we got home we would go to the grocery store and buy some pedialite as suggested in the article I had read earlier.
He was not only alive but was moving around a bit so off to the grocery store we went bought the pedialite and he drank it up. We thought the real test was going to be him making it through the night. We got up in the middle of the night he was still alive so we again gave him pedialite. If he was still with us in the morning it would be a trip to find some puppy formula.
Marc got up early, Skippyjon was still alive and while out cleaning the pool another baby was discovered. Now there was two. She seemed smaller and weaker than her brother. We started Skippyjane on the pedialite and and her brother on the formula.
Well folks a week has gone by, their eyes have opened, and this is what they look like!
This is Skippyjon just before his feeding last night!

Him having a late dinner after our opening football game. He ate a little but it wasn't his best meal, he turned his nose up after about 5cc.

Here is Marc feeding Skippyjane. She ate really good last night, sometimes she is squirmy but she settled right down and took about 10cc.

Here she is fed and happy!

Back to the box for bedtime!

These little guys will be going to a "official" squirrel rescue on Tuesday evening! So far so good, I think they are going to make it and will be released into the wild by someone that truly knows what they are doing!
:goodvibes

Hey Gina! I think that last post was just for you!
How cute that you have boypris in your class, I think they adorable, especially Happydogs little guys!

Here are some pictures of the second grade room at our school. Remember this is an open classroom. We have a large space that is in the shape of a U. Three teachers team teach in this area with each of us having a "homeroom" area and a shared large group area.
We work hard to keep the background noise at a minimum but we have very chatty kids this year. So it is a battle fought constantly. I am used to having a self contained room so hearing my team mates bothers me at times but I think I will get used to it. There is so much to be learned by listening to others teach!:goodvibes

When you walk in my teaching area is just to the right. The Disney Bulletin board is on the wall just to the left.

This is a repeat picture and my alphabet is now up above the bulletin board.

Here is view of my space taken from the center of the room.

A shift of the camera to the left and we have large group. This is where we gather all 59 of the students. I think we need new rugs for this area. Those two look a little shabby!

So there is a small look at my daily world! I would love to see classroom pictures from my fellow DIS teachers. It would be so much fun to see your classrooms!

Oh my frippen goodness!!! They are absolutely adorable!!!! Love your classroom too!! Thanks for posting the pictures!

Thanks, I have Skippyjon crawling around on me at the moment. He was trying to escape the box we have them housed in. Probably trying to get away from his sister that keeps trying to find a nipple and finding another part of his poor little anatomy.....

The classroom sure looks different with all the kids there!

oh my gosh the squirrels are too cute and they just crack me up! Your classroom is HUGE...I am sure not with all 3 classes worth of kids in it though haha. I don't know how you handle that! So do you only teach a couple subjects and then switch kids? I am team teaching with the teacher across the hall so I only teach math, science, and social studies. I just teach it to two classes. Makes planning so much easier!! But sharing a classroom...idk about all that!

I have some pics of my classroom taken before kids started. I will post those. Do you want them on here or mine? I have to take one of my bulletin board. Oh and the new decorations Tim bought for my dry erase board (they are disney too haha). The kids know I LOVE disney. My badge holder is actually a fastpass/ticket holder. Anything to keep me sane in the classroom lol

We do have a large space and it was originally built to house 3 teachers. About 5 years ago they went down to 2 teachers per grade level due to enrollment. They had soooo much room for just the 2 of them. Now due to enrollment we are back up to 3 teachers in 3rd grade down to Kdg. I teach my own math and language arts, we split the social studies and science. We teach it on a rotating basis. So I teach every third science lesson to the entire class. When we finish this unit we will teach a social studies unit and rotate it as well...

My kids know that I love Disney as well, we pick a class star each week and they decorate a bulletin board with information about them. The teachers were the first class stars, my board was all Disney! I can't believe that I didn't take a picture of it! Please post your classroom pictures over here, maybe we can get something started!

Thank you for posting the pictures of the squirrels. All because of you and shocker they are alive and thriving. I know you will miss them when they go to the squirrel rescue. They are so cute that I'm sure they will be hard to part with.

Your classroom is very cool, but I can imagine all hell breaking loose in that common area. Oy! That would far too much sensory overload for me, but it looks pretty cool for the kids.

While cute those little guys are very time consuming. I will miss them but it will be nice to have a couple less mouths to feed around here!

This group really likes to talk so if we don't stay on them "large group" can get quite loud. We give them loads of opportunity to earn marbles for a popcorn party and those opportunities basically involve being in control and quiet during "large group".

Mary Ellen, I was just checking out your ticker! Almost 2 weeks and you are in the best place in the world! How exciting is that?????

Awww...those squirrels look adorable!!! You and Marc have done a great job rescuing them!!!! I'm sure they will be back in the wild frolicking with their other squirrel friends before you know it!!!

I love your classroom, especially the Disney parts! I have mentioned to my students I'm a Disney fanatic!! I did do some Disney decorating, my science article of the week poster board is framed with Disney stickers and I have a photo frame (that holds 8 pictures) of Disney photos!! I also dress down on Fridays, which means jeans and a Disney shirt!!!! I'm hoping to find something else for my desk on this next trip!!

Great update, thanks for sharing!!

Awww, those squirrels are just ADORABLE!! Bless you for taking care of those little babies!

Your classroom looks like so much fun! I want to come play.

We were lucky that they were such hearty little babies! I'm going to give them a cheerio to chew on for their first solids tonight....I can't wait to see what they do.

I've been buying some seasonal characters on ebay to put on my classroom calendar bulletin board. My October board is going to be fun! I have 3 plushies, Donald dressed as Mickey, Mickey dressed as Goofy, and Goofy dressed as Donald. They are all carrying a jack-o-lantern trick or treat bag. It will be interesting to see if my students notice the differences in the characters.
We get to dress down on Friday's too, I'll have to see about wearing some Disney on those days as well.

Great update, thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for reading!

We are going to miss those little stinkers!

Your classroom looks like so much fun! I want to come play.
Anytime, I'll even let you play teacher!:cutie:

Those little babies are too sweet. You are so kind for caring for them. I know they will remember their foster parents when they are out in the wild again! :)

You are stronger than I am. I don't think I would do so well in that open classroom with other people teaching and the noise of my own and those. Your space looks great, but I am very glad I have my own room and my own door to shut. I lost a student, so I am down to 22, and we are supposedly getting another teacher, maybe while I'm out, so I might go back to a classroom of just 18 or 19, which is much better.

Do you guys spend your first weeks testing? We haven't even taught anything yet, because we've been testing. We haven't been able to get into our 'groove' yet.

I would love to have seen your class star bulletin board! Maybe next year we will remind you to take a picture.

Have a good long weekend. Are you grilling out or doing anything fun, or just hanging out relaxing?

They will probably travel for miles and miles just to get back to our house and live in our attic.

There are times that I want to say "shhhhhhhh" but it's one of my team mates teaching:laughing:
If you notice up at my teaching area the wall doesn't even go to the ceiling, it's open to the media center. I really don't notice much noise from there though. Here's the kicker, we don't have doors to shut! 2nd and 3rd grade are both open to the media center and neither of us have doors. The rest of the school has doors but they aren't allowed to close them while the students are there.
I hope you get that other teacher, 18 or 19 would be great! I have 20 and my team mates each have 19. Any new students will be coming their way.

We started out with a baseline test for reading, it just took about an hour, we are now doing the dibels test, and next up is NWEA for math and reading again. Oh and there is the SRI....
We have been teaching and testing. UGH!

I would love to have seen your class star bulletin board! Maybe next year we will remind you to take a picture.

You can actually see it over on the far wall, I have 3 sets of mouse ears on it, Halloween, Dream, and Traditional. I'll be sure to get a picture of it next year! I'll have the Christmas ears by then!

I spent a good part of the day doing laundry, it seems that our exchange student hoards dirty clothes...... We will need to visit about that.:sad2:
I would love to get to a movie and have the kids over for a cookout if the weather clears up. How about you, anything planned or just chilling out?

I don't know what it is but Jerry Lewis will come on TV and I'll get all depressed. I'm just not a winter person and this means the start of cooler weather. I'm so glad that I have Christmas at Disney to look forward to!:yay:

those squirells are too cute!
They make me want to go get a new puppy.....hopefully I'll come to my senses before I do!

I cannot believe I am saying this, but those squirrels are pretty cute. My first year I taught was in a room a lot like the one you are in, and I have done an open classroom with a third/fourth for two years too. I loved it, but you have to have the right people IMO.
