A Whole New WDWorld: NEW 8/9, Crystal Palace!

Ewwww, bad mouse! No fun no fun! I would have freaked out too!

Claire is just darling!

That was so nice of your friend to take you to the airport!

And yes, unfortunately, frozen doors are a reality of winters in the north. I hate those too. :)

Hi Julie!

It is a bummer that we didn't get to meet. I will be back in Chicago a few times a year, though, so maybe one of those times!

You BET! we can do that Woodfield thing :goodvibes

Okay, I think i fixed it. Thanks Julie! :goodvibes

:goodvibes your welcome

Oh man the mice story... i have had a few of those to report over the yrs...nof un and in your suitcase...YUCK!

sorry the start of the trip has been a bit :headache: truly hoping that goes away...frozen vans doors what a pain...never heppened to me, but one apartment matt used to live in, he remembers many a morning dealing w/ that

sending pixiedust: happy thoughts for the plane ride!

A bit late but I'm ready to read along now and looking forward to seeing lots more of Claire becoming the 3rd generation of Disney lovers :cheer2:

Really hope that things were a little less stressful from this point on!

I'm glad no mice joined you on vacation! We live in a older home and had a few mice last year and I was not a happy camper! DH figured out where they were coming in from outside and plugged it up, but I still look carefully every time I enter the utility room!

I would have been really unhappy with DH if he bailed on us the night before we needed to go to the airport! Your friend was a godsend! Too bad about the frozen doors, but glad it got sorted out and you got on the road on time.

I'm crossing my fingers you didn't forget anything else!

What a start to the trip!

Indeed!

Aren't you glad for friends like Dave?!?!? :cheer2:

I haven't thought about frozen doors in a few months, but reading about it took me back to several of my school mornings this past winter. Brrrrr! I had to get Drew to come out and climb through the back hatch and force the driver's door open one morning.

You're on your way, anyway. :woohoo: There might be more bad luck stories coming for the trip down, but hopefully once you arrived at MCO, the trip was full of magic from there on out! :wizard:

Yes! Dave is and always has been a great friend, someone I can always count on.

Ugh! I am so happy that summer is here. I'm curious to see what our winters in Switzerland will be like.

Great start to the report. Frozen doors are not good.:sad2:
Hope the rest of the trip to WDW gets better!

Thanks!

It did get much, much better.

Joining in. I lurked on your ptr but never commented so now I letting you know. :flower3:

Welcome! :welcome:

Thanks for saying hello! :goodvibes

First, ewww for the mouse. We store our suitcases in the garage, so I will check them out before bringing them in.

Frozen doors, yuck! Dealt with that a few times this past winter!

Phone charger...writing that on the packing list now, along with charger for the DS. Thanks for helping me think of these things! :thumbsup2

Hoping that was the end of bad luck for the trip! :wizard:

Ewww is right! That was the first time I had ever seen a mouse in one of our houses and I hope that it's the last. I now live in constant fear of mice anywhere we go!

Glad I could help with your list! :thumbsup2

What a stressful departure, but it seems as though you handled it very well. Oh my goodness, I think I would have lost it at the van doors being frozen. :lmao:

I seem to have bad luck with little things like that very frequently, so I guess I'm used to it!

When the van doors were frozen, I was ready and willing to just climb through the driver's door and send all the luggage that way too. Nothing was going to stop me from getting to Disney world!

Frozen doors, that's weird. Is that common up north? Sounds unpleasant.

Forgetting the phone charger, that's common everywhere. I'm sure the iPhone charger would be one of the easier ones to find.

Can't wait to see how Claire likes Disney. I bet she'll love it. :goodvibes

Yes, frozen doors are all too common. And yes, it is very unpleasant. I envy you for never having experienced frozen doors.

I am often happy that I have an iphone, but particularly at that moment. I was so happy that I did not have an obscure brand or model.

It was so much fun seeing Claire at Disney World!

Hi! I came over from Jackie's TR, hope you don't mind a new reader :thumbsup2

Your DD is absolutely adorable! :goodvibes

Hi! Welcome! Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

I think she's adorable too! ;)

Joining in!
Can't wait to read about all of your adventures.

Welcome!

Thanks for joining me! :goodvibes

I'm late, but I'm here! I am so excited that you have started.

Claire looks so cute bundled up and ready to go. I love that she has her Mickey!

How stressful to have to find a ride the night before your trip! I would panic. I haven't thought about frozen doors for a while now, but I do remember how cold and snowy this February was.

I sure hope your flight was uneventful and you got to relax!

Hi! Thanks for joining me over here!

Claire loves that Mickey. In fact, on one of our first days here in Switzerland, we were at a park where there was a little girl that had her own Mickey Mouse. Well, unfortunately for Claire, I sent Mickey on the boat with our other belongings rather than taking him on the plane with us. So she was missing her Mickey! Well, she continually tried and tried to get that little girl's Mickey from her! It was quite comical.

Yeah, finding a ride the night before our trip was not the way I wanted things to start out. Thank goodness for Dave!

Italy!! I am soo jealous! My sliding doors on my van will freeze in the winter and it is normally the one i have caleb sit at...soo annoying! I know it wouldn;t happen if we would park in our garage...LOL!

I'm so excited to go to Italy. I'm really looking forward to the food. Ha!

If your garage is anything like our garage in the states, it's way too full of junk to fit a car in it!

Ugh, I hate, hate, hate mice and would have freaked completely!!! I am shuddering just reading about the entire episode!

What a stressful way to start your trip -- hope things calmed down as you headed to the airport. :goodvibes We have a mini-van, and it is not uncommon for the doors to ice during the winter. It can be very annoying when you are running late for work/school.

I never really thought too much about mice before the suitcase incident, but now, I am terrified of finding another one! Gross.

What is it about mini-vans? :confused3

We definitely get those frozen mini-van doors up here in NH! :cold:

Sorry about the mouse incident! Yuck! Definitely not the best way to start a trip - I'm glad you didn't find any mice in your luggage this time around.

I hope the bad luck was behind you! :goodvibes

Another mini-van with frozen doors?! Note to self: if we ever buy a mini-van, park it in the garage!

DH keeps joking that we probably brought some mice to Switzerland with us in our suitcases. I know it's a joke, but it still makes me nervous!

Me, too!
When the first ones appeared in the fall at school, I went and bought an arsenal of products to get rid of them. I had the little round black traps and the sticky pads everywhere that I thought a mouse would get and a kid couldn't reach. I bet the maintenance people thought I was crazy when they pulled out all of my furniture to buff the floors this summer and saw all of that stuff!

I made it clear to the little critters - I do not tolerate mice!

:rotfl:

The person at Home Depot that was the cashier probably thought I was crazy because I did the same thing. I bought multiples of every kind of trap they had.

Those un-Mickey mice should learn to stay away from DISers!

Except Disney mice, of course. :goodvibes

Getting into this trip early enough. Stinks about the unwanted mouse, but your favorite one is coming soon!

Welcome to my TR! :goodvibes

I was much happier to see Mickey Mouse!

Ewwww, bad mouse! No fun no fun! I would have freaked out too!

Claire is just darling!

That was so nice of your friend to take you to the airport!

And yes, unfortunately, frozen doors are a reality of winters in the north. I hate those too. :)

I am so glad my friend was able to take us. I would have been very annoyed if we had to take a cab and then bring the car seat on our trip with us!

You BET! we can do that Woodfield thing :goodvibes

Yes, Woodfield sounds great! I know I'm goign to have some serious Christmas shopping to do when we're in town for Christmas.

Those frozen doors can really throw a wrench into the schedule!

I don't blame you for checking every time you go into the utility room. I do the same thing now! We're not even in the same house and I still check!

I was not very happy at all when DH said he couldn't take us. He was very lucky that I found a replacement driver!

Yuck about the mouse. I would have been freaked out and definitely would have taken all the clothes out and washed them. Although I might have tossed my suitcase in the trash :rotfl:.

You are very lucky to have a friend like Dave!

I am reading along. I love your title, and your little girl is so cute.

Oh, I definitely considered getting rid of that suitcase! I didn't have time, though, to get another one, so I had to make it work with lysol. Ick!

Joining in. Looking forward to readng more.

Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

Joining in hope the rest of your travel went smoothly.

Thanks for reading! :)

Thanks for joining me! :goodvibes

I got back into the van with my newly-purchased phone charger and I was happy to know that I would be able to communicate with DH while we were away from each other. I was also happy to know that I would be able to call my mom when she inevitably gets lost in the parks!

The rest of the ride was uneventful and we soon arrived at Midway Airport. Dave helped us get all of our stuff out of the unfrozen mini-van doors and I gave him some gambling money for Vegas. He would be back at this very airport in 6 hours to fly to Vegas for a family vacation.

It was at this moment that I realized that my overpacking problem was at an all-time high. I had 2 suitcases to check as well as a backpack, diaper bag, and a purse to carry on. My mom had a suitcase, a backpack, and a purse. Getting all of this plus Claire in her stroller over to the bag check counter proved to be a bit of a struggle, but we got it done. Soon, our bags were checked and we were ready to go through security. I love it that Midway has the security lines for “family”. I felt no pressure to go quickly as I got everything ready to put on the belt. Security completed, we headed to the gate. My mom and I took turns going to get breakfast while the other one stayed with Claire and the bags.

Soon after we finished eating our breakfast, it was time to board the plane. It was a full flight so there was no chance of us getting a row to ourselves. We chose our seats and sat down. As I was standing in the aisle, waiting for my mom to get herself settled in her seat, I realized that Claire was hitting the man in the row in front of us on the top of his head! He turned around with a look of anger on his face, but once he realized that his assailant was an adorable little girl, all was forgiven and he gave her a big smile. I took our seat and hoped that Claire would be good on the plane so as not to disturb the woman who was also in our row.

We took off on time and we were finally on our way to DISNEY WORLD!!!!!

There’s something about flying that causes Claire to become very hyperactive. She wants to constantly move around, switching from my mom’s lap to mine, then back again to my mom’s lap. As long as we let her keep moving, she remains content and quiet. Two hours of this was quite exhausting for the adults, but as long as she was quiet, we were happy!

Here's Claire, doing some work on her laptop on the plane.

P1010101.jpg

And here she is, finally looking sleepy.

P1010104.jpg

As the plane began to descend, Claire fell asleep on my shoulder. After we landed, I carefully put my Ergo baby carrier on (kind of like a baby bjorn) and got Claire into it. As we walked off the plane, I had a sleeping baby on my chest, my mom by my side, and I was ready to start a fabulous week at the happiest place on Earth. What a wonderful feeling.

For some reason, we never received the Magical Express bag tags, so we had to go get our bags off the luggage carousel and bring them over to Magical Express. This was a bit of a pain, but I was happy that we would have our bags with us immediately upon arriving at our resort. Claire woke up from her nap around this time and she was happy to see all the activity at the airport.

P1010106.jpg

We put our bags on a luggage cart and headed over to Magical Express, where it was pretty empty. I hoped that this was a good sign of crowds to come. We were directed to the correct line for Port Orleans Riverside. After about a 10 minute wait, we were allowed to head out to our bus.

There it is!

P1010109.jpg

We gave the driver our bags and got on the bus and chose our seats. My baby girl’s first Disney trip was beginning and I couldn’t have been happier!

P1010113.jpg

I got out a squeezer package of baby food for Claire and let her have at it. Before I could react, Claire squeezed the baby food all over herself, myself, and my mom! We were covered in pears and mango. I cleaned up the baby food as well as I could and put the baby food away. And I thanked my lucky stars that we had our luggage on the bus with us so we could all change out of our pear-mango stained clothes. Then, as the bus driver announced there was to be no eating or drinking on the bus, a teenage girl in front of us turned around and gave me a look! I guess I deserved it.

Soon, the bus got moving, the video started playing, and we were on our way!

What is that I see ahead?

P1010114.jpg

Still blurry, but better!

P1010116.jpg

I see a sign for our resort! :yay:

P1010117.jpg

Before I knew it, we were at Port Orleans Riverside!

P1010118.jpg

Off the bus we went to check in! :woohoo:

Next up: Would we have good luck with our room assignment?

Glad the flight went smoothly and the man wasn't too angry about getting bopped on the head by Claire!

I can just picture the food squirting everywhere. :lmao:

Hurray for a good flight! It would be exhausting to play, "Pass the baby," for two hours, but like you said, I would rather to that than deal with a cranky child. :goodvibes

Oh, no about the pears and mangos! At least they probably smelled good, and you hadn't handed Claire something vile smelling like peas. :crazy2:

Teenagers are so judgemental! I know because there is one living in my house right now.

Yay! Glad the flight went well. Claire is such a sweetie! Not good that you did not get the ME tags but it looks like it was probably for the best. You would not want to wait around for hours wearing mango-pear stained clothes. Can't wait to hear more!!

Glad the flight went well! I remember playing pass the baby a few years ago. Hey, whatever works to keep them happy! I'm getting nervous for our flight in 2 weeks. Owen was fine when he was a baby, but we'll see how he does this time. I figured we could entertain him with the ipod, but it's been MIA for about week. Really hoping to find it before we leave.

Sorry about the food on the bus, what a mess, luckily you had the luggage with you!

Yay for the Disney sign!

Ahhh teenagers!! Doesn't she know when babies are hungry, they are hungry? :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

I'm glad the flight went well for you, I can't imagine traveling with a baby and trying to keep them quiet, it must be stressful.

Yay for Port Orleans Riverside!!

You made it! I stayed at PO when it was Dixie Landings. It is very nice. I can't wait to hear all about your trip. I remember my daughter's first trip, a very special memory.
