A Whole New WDWorld: A March PTR (NEW! 6/27 TR link!)

I was wayyyyyy behind and wish I would have caught up sooner. You are so on the ball with the trip and I am getting great tips from you since we are going at the same time, with the same age baby:thumbsup2

I may be the only one who likes the stroller that comes with the travel system better than the umbrella, but we have never used the bus system. We may try it this time, but we will have our car.

Where are you getting all these great disney clothes (love that tutu skirt outfit!)?

This is my 2nd, and I have forgotten about all sorts of things, like the travel place mats. So, again, thank you for posting this.

I need to get on the ball now. So far, we have our countdown calendar and one matching outfit for the girls, white t-shirts for the iron transfers I still need to do. I am doing a Big Sis/Lil Sis Ariel ones and Minnie Heads with their names in it. Both will probably just be worn with black stretch pants. On previous trips, I have done total custom ruffle type clothes, but am changing up this trip with more T-shirts. And, it is saving me lots of money:thumbsup2

Lastly, congrats on the Switzerland prospect. Hoping it is a great offer for you guys!

Oh, and Claire is absolutely adorable!

Hello from Park City, Utah! Today is finally my day to ski! Our friends will watch Claire for us today while DH and I ski. I'm so excited!!!!

To my new readers, welcome! I'll do proper responses later when I'm not on my iPhone!

I have to say that I am SO HAPPY that we did this trip just before our Disney trip because I have learned some very valuable things about traveling with 10 month old claire. I will have lots of fun pics to share in a couple days when we get home. Have a great Sunday, everyone!

I hope you're having a great time, hon! Enjoy the skiing, can't wait to hear all about it when you get back. :goodvibes

Julie...I have seen this screenname for a while but did not realize it was you! Good luck on the switzerland offer...DH's aunt and uncle spent 2 years abroad in Germany and they absolutely loved it! And i did too because we got to go over and visit! Its only a short time and would be an amazing experience...and if you can make it back home several times and have your family come visit...i think it would be worth it!

I agree umbrella stroller for disney...and claire is smaller than Caleb was when he went so I would definitely suggest a carrier for her if she will sleep in that! That was our biggest complaint during our trip! Caleb still took two naps and fell asleep great in the stoller but we missed alot because of him sleeping. There were many places and shows they would not allow the stoller in...so DH and I spent a lot of time in the gift shops. Also if you have something that can tie her pacifier to her clothes or stroller...we did that and we never lost a paci and we lost many paci's at home (notice that it is past tense now that he kicked the habbit :-)

I too sent snacks/diapers/wipes to myself so that it did not take up room in our luggage.

Hope u are having a great trip now and will have a great WDW trip in a couple of weeks! Jealous!!! LOL!

We are just doing a small party at home with family and two of our close friends unfortunately unlike DS1 we didnt do any playgroups with DS2, it is just too hard when there is more than one. Poor kid. I am having a hard time with a theme though so I think I will just do it's fun to be ONE!

It's fun to be one sounds like a great theme!

Do one year old really even care who is at their birthday party? I am hoping that Claire doesn't care because i want to keep her party small as well!

I know one secret to make time slow down- get pregnant with a second baby. Those nine months will drag by and your first born will seem to not age at all.

That's a lot of snow. Kind of ironic that you all are about to go on a ski trip.:rotfl:

Oh my! I am SO NOT ready for baby number 2! I don't know how you did it/do it!

Believe me, that irony was not lost on me. The weather was very pleasant, though, in Park City, so I was happy!

Hi there! :wave2:

I know I'm a little late getting on board with this PTR, but I'm really excited to be here! I took my little man three times last year at 4, 6 and 10 months, and each time was an adventure with its own high and low points. You sound like you are going in with the right expectations (i.e. expect the unexpected) so I'm sure you'll have a great time. Life with a baby is always pretty crazy, you might as well be crazy at Disney, right??!! :)

Have you gotten Claire one of those snack traps? We had one for Everett on his 10 month visit and it worked great. I filled it with cheerios and puffs, and he would chow down while we were waiting in lines and touring around the parks. I'd also look into on of the tether straps, so you can tie down the snack trap so it doesn't go flying out of the stroller.

I'll also share with you Everett's favorite plane toy http://www.vtechkids.com/product.cfm/Rhyme_Discover_Book/1624/ You can get the book at Walmart. I don't think we'd make it through a plane flight without this book. Flying with Everett is like flying with a sack of weasels, I need all the distractions I can get. Some people mentioned that toys that make noise might not be good on the plane, but I promise, once the engines start up, your plane neighbors will not be able to hear this toy. It is tried and tested! :thumbsup2

And if I can make another suggestion, you might want to request the Mansions side of POR (Magnolia Bend), because the alligator bayou side does not have elevators, and the last thing you want is to be stuck in a second floor room and have to carry the stroller up and down stairs every day! :headache:

Hello and welcome and thank you for reading! And thank you for all the wonderful suggestions!

Flying with a sack of weasels! :lmao: That is hilarious! :rotfl:

I am going to look for that book at Walmart this week. I am putting it on my list right now. Thank you!

We do have the snack traps with a tether, and I absolutely love them.

Oh, and that is a GREAT idea to request the side of POR with the elevators. I had not thought about that. But you are absolutely right...I would hate to have to carry the stroller up and down the stairs every day.

I was wayyyyyy behind and wish I would have caught up sooner. You are so on the ball with the trip and I am getting great tips from you since we are going at the same time, with the same age baby:thumbsup2

Oh, and Claire is absolutely adorable!

I got that tutu skirt/pants combo at Baby Gap (my addiction), and the Minnie shirt was from Target. The shirt is already getting too small on Claire. I hope it fits in 2 weeks. That baby grows like a weed though!

The Big sis/ little sis shirts will be so cute! I'm excited to meet you and your girls!

I hope you're having a great time, hon! Enjoy the skiing, can't wait to hear all about it when you get back. :goodvibes

Thanks TK!

Update coming up later!

Hi Kara! I meant to PM you, but completely forgot. My last screen name had too much personal info, so I changed it!

I don't know why, but I brought Claire's big stroller with us on our ski trip and it was awful! Such a pain to fit in the cab on the way to the airport with all our luggage and such a pain to fit in the rental car with all the luggage. I am definitely cured of my temptation to bring it to Disney World!

Congrats on kicking the paci habit! I have the paci clips on my list. That paci clip saved us on the airplane on the way to Utah!

Claire napped in the Ergo baby carrier when we went to the zoo in Salt Lake City last week. She napped for about 45 minutes. So I am hopeful that she will do the same at Disney World. It's great that the carrier will allow us to do more while she is napping!

We're still waiting on news from Switzerland. They're being SO SLOW!

Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

Hope you had a great last day of skiing. Looking forward to hearing all about it when you get home.

Update coming up later today! :thumbsup2

glad you had a trial trip to know what stroller not to take to disney world! LOL! I too wanted to take my nice big stroller to WDW but my mom thought I should take a umbrella stroller. I do not like umbrella strollers...so she ended up buying me a smaller lightweight stroller instead. It was nice for the size I must admit but I hate that stroller! DH and I want a different one (we have the Graco lightlight and its wheels get stuck....drives my husband bonkers) but I think I want to wait until there is a second child. Caleb for the most part does not ride in it that much anymore unless we go somewhere were we would walk alot. He's getting better about walking with you and holding your hand.

Did you ever get any clothes for Claire at walmart. My wal-mart had some cute disney clothes. I just went today to get their valentines clothes clearance and got a mickey and minnie perfect match tshirt thats not valentines looking for my niece for $2.50....among 2 pairs of pjs for Caleb for $2.50 each and a couple of t shirts for $2.50 each. Can't beat it!

Last night, we returned from our ski trip vacation to Park City, Utah. On this trip, I learned many valuable lessons which will help me hugely with our Disney trip, which is LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AWAY!!!!!!!!!

DH, Claire, and I took a cab to the airport Wednesday afternoon. In the cab, I learned lesson number one: bringing the big stroller that came with our travel system was a huge mistake! It was so hard to fit the stroller in the cab with all of our other luggage. We got it in there eventually and we were on our way. I kept a death grip on Claire’s carseat the whole way to the airport because our driver was insane! I’ve never experienced that level of slamming on the brakes in my life! In the end, we arrived safely and got through check in and security with no trouble. We did not buy Claire a seat on the plane and we were on Southwest, so it was open seating. Of course it was a full flight, so Claire couldn’t have her own seat. And, of course, the ONE man that you would never want to sit next to you on the airplane sat in our row! He was very large, very sweaty, and very grumpy! He fell asleep soon after he sat down and began snoring, which prompted Claire to start making her version of snoring noises. It was hilarious! Claire was wonderful on the flight! I quickly learned lesson number two: Dont’ try to get Claire to go to sleep on the plane. She will sleep when she is ready. The only time she cried was when I tried to get her to go to sleep. When I stopped trying to do that, she was perfect. Silly, sweet, and playful. She then passed out on her daddy’s shoulder for the last hour of the 3 hour flight. I was happy that she was sleeping on DH because I was able to play games on my iPhone!

Upon arrival in Salt Lake, DH went to get the rental car while I retrieved the bags from the luggage carousel. We had checked 2 suitcases, a duffel-type bag, a pack and play, and a car seat bag. 5 items total. That was a lot of keep track of on the carousel while keeping Claire entertained! Eventually all of the bags showed up and we met up with DH and crammed all the bags and the seemingly gigantic stroller into the car and got on our merry way. It was a quick drive to Park City, where we rent the same house each year. Our friends from Phoenix had arrived about an hour before we did. It was so great to see them again! DH and I lived in Phoenix for 3 years, but moved back to Chicago about 2 years ago. Our best friends from Phoenix have a daughter who is 5 months older than Claire. The girls hadn’t seen each other since Claire was 3 days old, so I was very excited for them to see each other again and have ample play time. It was late when we arrived at the house, though, and the other baby was in bed already. The reunion would have to wait until morning. We got Claire to bed quickly and spent the rest of the evening catching up with our friends. While bedtime went quickly, the rest of Claire’s sleep did not go very well that night. She was up 3 times that night, crying and yelling! DH and I took turns getting her settled. Not one got much rest. It was during that night that I learned lesson number 3: Let Claire have her pacifier when sleeping on vacation! I normally only let Claire have a pacifier when she is in her car seat or when she is teething and nothing else will soothe her. But soothe her the pacifier does, so vacation has now been added to the list of pacifier-friendly times.

The view from the front door of our vacation rental:

The next day, Claire was up bright and early, as was the other baby. We quickly found out that the other baby’s high volume is too much for Claire to handle. Claire was terrified of the other baby’s loud voice! It was pretty sad. As long as the other baby was quiet, Claire was fine, but as soon as the other baby yelled, forget it! The daddies went skiing that day while the mommies and babies went into downtown Park City for lunch and shopping. In the car, the girls started out fine, but when the other baby started shouting in the car, Claire started crying. That led to more shouting, which led to more crying, and you get the picture. This taught me lesson number 4: Claire needs to be in a play group. She is great around other kids until they touch her or yell in her face. I think a playgroup will help her with this. Once we got to the restaurant and both babies were in high chairs that were a safe distance from one another, they were both happy. They kindly shared their lunches with one another and chattered away.

Claire had grilled cheese for the first time and loved it. At lunch, I learned lesson number 5: Claire can eat many more things than I ever imagined! When the other baby gave Claire a little piece of her grilled cheese, it made me a bit nervous because Claire has had cheese and bread, but never together in a grilled form. But when the other baby handed it to Claire, she ate it all up and wanted more. Lunch done, it was time for a WalMart run for diapers and other necessities. The girls were adorable in their gigantic shopping cart.

Next, it was back to the house for naps for the babes and the daddies were home soon after naps were done. We had a fun dinner at the house that night and spent that evening chatting the night away after the babies went to sleep. Claire’s sleep was a little bit better this night, but still not great. Again, no one got much rest. .

The next day, the daddies went skiing again while the mommies and babies went to the Salt Lake City Zoo. That zoo was wonderful. First of all, it was completely empty. I think we were the first visitors there that day. It seemed like we had the zoo to ourselves. The animals seemed to be very close to the visitors at this zoo, which was great. We got to look at a lot of the animals very close up!

P1010042.jpg

At the zoo, I learned lesson number 6: Claire will indeed still nap in the baby carrier that I carry her in. I wear the carrier on my back, so it’s like a piggy back ride. She fell asleep about 20 minutes after I put her in the carrier and stayed asleep until we left the zoo. That gives me great hope for our Disney trip. I hope she’ll sleep in the carrier there, too!

Here's Claire in the double stroller we rented at the zoo. We thought both babies would be happy in there, but that only lasted about 10 minutes together!

P1010078.jpg

After a fun day at the zoo, we headed back to the house for lunch and naps. Soon after naps were done, the daddies arrived at home and we had another fun dinner. Claire’s sleep was much better this night. Only 2 wake-ups, which were quick and easy to remedy. It seemed that she was finally adjusting to her new surroundings and new time zone!

The next day, DH and I watched both girls while our friends skied. It was a relaxed, fun day at the house with the girls. It was so nice to be on vacation and have nothing to worry about but playing, eating, and sleeping!

Here's Claire trying on my ski goggles

The day after that, it was time for DH and I to ski all day. The weather was perfect. Absolutely perfect. Sunny and in the 40s. The snow was great also. I felt like I did my best skiing ever that day, despite the fact that I hadn’t skied since before I got pregnant with Claire!

The reasons I chose the ski resort that I did for my ski day (Deer Valley) were 1) No snowboarders and 2) GREAT food in the ski lodge

Here's my panini and homemade potato chips. YUM!

I was very nervous to leave Claire all day as we hadn’t ever left her that long with anyone but my mom. After a rough start of the morning without us, she was happy the rest of the day and was in a great mood when we returned from our ski day.

Here we are after my ski day!

P1010087.jpg

She slept all night that night with no wake-ups! She was finally on track, just in time for us to go home.

The next day, it was already time to go home! The Salt Lake City airport has a nice little play area for kids. My inner germaphobe said NO WAY to the play area, but thankfully, DH was there to reason with that germaphobe in me, and Claire had fun passing the time by playing with all the toys and the other kids in the play area.

Here are daddy and baby playing at the airport

f376e15e.jpg

Again, Claire was great on the flight. This time, I didn’t even try to get her to sleep, so there was no fussing or crying. Just a happy, silly baby who passed out on my shoulder with one hour to go on the flight. Fortunately, she passed out in such a way that I was still able to play games on my phone!

Here's my sleepy pumpkin on the plane:

We arrived home last night and Claire is now stuck on Mountain Time. She is going to bed at 8, instead of 7. And this morning, she slept till 8:30! She’s normally up at 6:30. So now I’m wondering...should I try to keep up this later bedtime until we go to Disney World? On Florida time, she’ll be going to bed at 9 if we keep it this way. That will give us much more park time. Of course, she would be waking up pretty late, but we don’t plan to make rope drops anyways.

All in all, it was a great trip filled with friends, relaxation, and fun. And I did learn a lot of things that will be of great use to me in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!!!!!!! I unpacked everything today and realized that I’m about ⅓ packed for Disney World already! Another bonus of this trip being so close to the Disney trip!

Sounds like you had a great trip! I'm glad you got some ski time with DH & Claire survived. ;) That's always hard for a mom...

You picked up a lot of great tips too! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you guys had a great time. I'm glad your ski trip helped alleviate some of your Disney trip stresses!

Sounds like you guys had a great trip! Glad you're getting everything worked out so your WDW trip will run smoothly :thumbsup2

Sounds like a great trip!!!

The babies looked so cute in their snow suits and warm clothes!

have you got any news on Switzerland yet???

Cute picture of the sweet little ones.

I am glad you got to work out the kinks with this mini-trip. Sounds like it was fun and educational - as far as you learning what works and what doesn't work. :)

Bella has her paci in 'different' situations more, too. It's just easier to let them comfort themselves in that simple way than to fight the crying and being upset.

I'm really glad the baby carrier worked for you. Jill carried Bella in that for several trips, and she just slept and woke as she chose. It was perfect!

So, time for you to unpack and repack. I will drag my big suitcase out on Saturday and begin to begin. Not much longer now, and my school days will be full, full, full, so I will enjoy the one weekend I have left before we go.

Great ski trip Julie glad you were able to get out on the slopes too :goodvibes and you have some great lessons to reflect on to help w/ the Disney trip...

KIM the loudness there too, if you think she might be sensitive to that

sounds like you are ready to go!

Sounds like a great trip overall, Julie, with only a few bumps here and there. Glad Claire was such a trooper. My two never really liked sleeping in strange places at night so I feel your pain on that -- definitely pack those pacifiers for the trip.

The view from the mountains is beautiful and hurray for having your best skiing day! :thumbsup2

Claire is so cute sleeping away on the plane. :goodvibes

I am such a wimp about leaving Claire with anyone but my mom! I hope that goes away soon because we have plenty of offers from people who would like to baby-sit, but I chicken out when it comes down to leaving her with anyone!

Sounds like a great trip and a good trial run for WDW! :thumbsup2

Yes, it was a great trial run for WDW. That is a good way to put it!

Sounds like you guys had a great time. I'm glad your ski trip helped alleviate some of your Disney trip stresses!

It definitely helped alleviate some of the Disney stresses/questions. It was a well-timed trip!

Sounds like you guys had a great trip! Glad you're getting everything worked out so your WDW trip will run smoothly :thumbsup2

I do hope everything goes smoothly with the WDW trip. If it's anything like the ski trip, it will be great!

Sounds like a great trip!!!

Ugh, I'm so sick of those snowsuits and warm clothes! We've had some warmer weather the past couple days and the snow is starting to melt and I can sense that spring is coming!

Cute picture of the sweet little ones.

I think I worry too much about the pacifier because I sucked my thumb till I was SEVEN! Crazy! Getting my ears pierced was the only thing that got me to stop sucking my thumb. But if the pacifier makes life easier for now, we will indeed put it to good use.

That baby carrier is one of the best gifts we received. I have used it very much since Claire was born. I love it!

Our trips our so close! Do you enjoy packing? I think it's the second worst part of going on a trip. Second only to unpacking!

Great ski trip Julie glad you were able to get out on the slopes too :goodvibes and you have some great lessons to reflect on to help w/ the Disney trip...

Skiing was great. I can't wait to go back!

I feel like most of what I have to do for Disney is last-minute stuff, so we're in good shape!

Sounds like a great trip overall, Julie, with only a few bumps here and there. Glad Claire was such a trooper. My two never really liked sleeping in strange places at night so I feel your pain on that -- definitely pack those pacifiers for the trip.

Claire is so cute sleeping away on the plane. :goodvibes

I have always been the same about sleeping in a new place, so I guess I shouldn't expect anything different from my daughter. Are your kids better about it now? I have the pacifiers packed already! Claire now has travel pacifiers that stay in their case until we are on the trip. No way am I going to let those get lost!

A sleeping baby is a wonderful sight, isn't it?

This weekend, DH's mom and sister will visit from Washington and California, respectively.

They'll be here from Friday afternoon until Monday afternoon.

You know what that means?! I don't have any time to do Disney stuff this weekend! :scared1: It's a good thing that we leave a week from Monday because that will give me all of next weekend to prepare.

I am now sick for the first time since I became pregnant with Claire. That's over a year and a half. It's just a cold and a cough, so nothing terrible, but I was hoping that well streak would last forever! I'm hoping Claire doesn't catch it. And if she does, I hope it's soon because I want it to be over with by the time we go to Disney World.

About Switzerland, we still haven't received the offer. DH contacted the HR people early this week, telling them that he has another offer coming from a company in Chicago, so they better get their offer on the table so they can at least consider it. He was told that the offer would be here today or Monday at the latest. So...we wait some more! The Chicago company called yesterday, but DH didn't call them back because he's trying to buy some time. So we'll find out what that offer is today. Once both offers are on the table, we'll really be able to make a decision. So please keep the prayers and thoughts coming. :goodvibes

Looks like you guys had a great trip! I'm so glad you got the chance to practice vacationing before your Disney trip. That is my number one tip for people taking babies for the first time to WDW, to practice vacationing so you have some idea what to expect (of course its always nice to take a full practice vacation- so kudos to you!).

I also wouldn't worry too much about the pacis yet. We're a paci household as well, and I've weaned Everett down to just for naps and nighttime (and during my stroller exercise class, but that is a necessity). I figure he'll give it up when he is ready. I just recently stopped nursing him, so I know he needs to get his comfort somewhere

Good luck with your big decision! I know its tough moving away from family and friends, we've done it more than I've liked with DH being military. We've considered taking orders to Japan for his next tour, just for the experience of living overseas, but we've run into many of the same dilemmas that you have. I wish you the best!

Julie, yes, now that Chelsea and Connor are older they are much better about sleeping in new places. Thank goodness!

Hope you feel better soon! Have fun with DH's mom and sister this weekend!

Hope Switzerland makes an offer soon. It stinks to be waiting to hear before you can make any decisions.
