A whole day at DHS?

Does anybody actually spend a full day at DHS?

Yes.

All of the attractions, shows, restaurants, and Fantasmic! can fill a day.

It's easy for anyone (who prefers to do something else with his time) to stay for only a half-day,
or just ride one or two things, or to just skip the park (any park) entirely.

Everything is a matter of taste and preference.

We went in December and spent most of the day there. It was our first trip and when we go back in April we are planning on no more than a couple of hours. I was truthfully unimpressed with DHS.

I think if its your first time ever you can spend a whole day there, but if you've been within 2 years, a whole day is a bit much!

Our DHS day is the only day that we actually plan to spend the whole day in a park and not go to the hotel for a nap/swim break. We plan to do rides in the morning/evening and then relax and watch a few shows in the afternoon. By the time dinner will be done with at Sci Fi, it'll be time to head to Fantasmic and wait in line for a seat. Sounds like a full day to me :)

After MK, its the park we spend most of our time in during our trips. (I travel with my 18 yr DD mostly).

I have a very nice tentative touring plan for my full day in HS and also a half day later to re-ride and try another restaurant. So, yes it is a full day park.

Hollywood Studios is my favorite park, so take that for what you will.

People really need to learn the difference between an opinion and a value judgement. Both are subjective, but for some reason, while we all understand that opinions are personal, so are value judgments. Liking or not liking something is easily as subjective as worth it or not worth it, but people seem to think that everyone's value systems are the same.

I really enjoy the classes of rides at Hollywood Studios. I like that two of my favorites are right next to each other (Rock 'n' Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror) so I can run between them repeatedly. I really love Star Tours. I'm a movie fan, so I love older attractions like The Great Movie Ride. And I love that they're all in the same park.

I like the atmosphere most of all, and I could spend hours just taking it all in. That right there seems to be the biggest differentiator. You either enjoy spending time at a park or you don't. Really, riding the rides is the least amount of time you will spend doing anything. Experiencing the atmosphere of the space is more important in that regard, and some people just don't care for it, going only for the ride experiences. Of course you'd consider it a "half-day" park in that case, because there just aren't that many rides.

For someone for whom the rides are not the end-all, be-all of a Disney experience, or someone who loves the subject matter, it could be a full-day park or more. I tend to take two days there because I enjoy it so much.

Anyway, the point is, you can't expect anyone else's value systems to match yours. Go see everything and decide for yourself, and try not to let your opinions color other people. I made the mistake of deciding Animal Kingdom wasn't worth going to on my very first trip because "I don't like zoos." Turns out not only do I like zoos when Disney does them, but I enjoyed everything else, too. :)

I can easily spend a whole day at DHS, and not even see everything. Granted, when I was there December, I went on TSMM twice, RNR 3 times, and TOT four times. So...there's that.

I love HS and we spend one day (9:00 - 3:00) enjoying all the attractions, street shows and rides. We watch America Idol and have lunch at Sci-Fi Diner, then we head back to The Board Walk for afternoon pool time. Another day we arrive at 6:00 for dinner at Prime Time with more rides and shows and stay for Fantasmic! I like the big 3 rides, but there is so much more to see and do there especially the street entertainment.

We always spend an entire day at HS and AK. We usually do EP in one day as well (but that is because of time restraints.....I would rather spend 2 days there). MK is always 2 days for us.

For us, MK is a two day park and the other three are all full day parks. We're more relaxed when we tour so we take our time.

On our first "family" trip to Disney, DHS is the only park where we ran out of stuff to do. We could easily fill 2 days at AK.

The other thing about DHS for us was that of the attractions we really enjoyed, NONE of them really rated as "must do" for a return visit. All of the other parks (water parks included) had numerous attractions we simply cannot wait to do again. That's not to say we had no fun at DHS, but it didn't "wow" us.

Yes....last trip, from rope drop through the 10:30 showing of Fantasmic. My family adores DHS. And we didn't even do everything--we skipped most of the stuff in Echo Lake (only did Star Tours), and everything on Sunset Blvd other than ToT. We did several things multiple times.
And we are a full-day-in-AK family too. As long as Disney offers the 4 day military hoppers, we will buy those and do a day in each park. It's nice to have a bonus evening in the MK when AK closes early. :)

I personally disagree. Hollywood Studios is where I spend the majority of my time on a trip.

I could have written this post myself! I love Hollywood Studios. I love the romance behind the old Hollywood feel of the park. I love the theming that you are in a "Hollywood that never was and always will be" and then, when you get on a ride, you are suddenly part of the movie or show. I believe that Tower of Terror has some of the best theming of any ride in any park anywhere. From the moment you see it, you start to feel part of the action. The queue really sucks you in and you feel as though you are in an abandoned, almost haunted hotel from the 1930's or 1940's. I love Great Movie Ride and have adored it since I was a child of 8. One Man's Dream is a place I could spend over an hour and not even notice. Magic of Disney Animation is a must-do for me and I just feel incomplete if I don't do it. Star Tours makes me ill, but I love it when my husband and daughter go on the ride because I get to grab a cupcake from Starring Rolls and sit out on Commissary Blvd listening to the music and taking everything in. I can't imagine a better themed restaurant than Sci Fi Dine In, either, but my husband and I consider Mama Melrose to be "our" place. If I don't see Fantasmic at least once on a Disney Vacation, it just doesn't feel right. To me, that is the quintessential Disney show and the perfect way to end my perfect Disney day.

The fun really is in the details for me. I love the rides and shows and have no problem filling a day with Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller Coaster, Great Movie Ride, Muppets, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Indy, One Man's Dream, and Magic of Disney Animation, but then I miss out on the details. I love to look at the names on the second floor windows on Hollywood Blvd, Sunset, and around Tune In Lounge and 50's Prime Time. I love listening to the music outside that terrible, ugly blue hat, I love to pull the rope outside Indy. I enjoy pulling on the umbrella on Streets of America and making it "rain" on me. I like putting my hands in the prints outside Great Movie Ride. I can look around the shops outside Blacklot Tour for hours. I enjoy looking around the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playset. When Disney is on, they are certainly on and Hollywood Studios does a fantastic job of showcasing this. You are engulfed in the ideas behind the rides, shows, and other attractions and I want every second I can possibly have to spend within that magic.:goodvibes

Thanks for the input! Everybody is different and enjoys different things! It is just my opinion that DHS is a half day. I used to go to DAK and be in and out in 2 hours. I've changed and spend from morning until later in the afternoon there.
