I'm here now, and just had a total "what were they thinking?" moment. I'm in line for Animation Acadamy, and three young girls, obviously from a church group, walk in.

Their shirts are bright red, with a solid white Sorcerer Mickey, arms outstretched, carrying a cross. Picture it for a second - a solid white figure in a pointy hat holding a cross. I nearly choked on my water.

How the bippity could someone not have said, "maybe we should rethink this?" I pointed it out to a CM, who reported it to a supervisor, and I'm hoping there is something they can do.

Interesting that this happened when I was just noticing how much more diverse the crowds are this trip.

I am afraid I would not have made the leap from "Sorceror Mickey" to "Ku Klux Klan" no matter what color Mickey was. unless it was just the outline of Mickey.

Just wait until the first week of June. I've been reading in another thread how those red shirts often have some very interesting phrases on them.

I also am not sure I'd make the leap from Sorcerer Mickey to KKK without it being pointed out to me. I believe it was probably unintentional on the girls' part, and I really don't know what CM's are supposed to do about something like that. I've seen more overt stuff tattooed on people.

While it may not be the wisest of design choices for the group surely you didn't really report the shirt to a CM. Unless the intent of the shirt was to portray Mickey as a Klan leader I just can't fathom why you would report it. And I feel sure posting that whoever designed the shirt did not do it with that in mind.
You do realize the poor children who wore these shirts to Disney were only wearing what was provided to them by the group that organized the event. They sure don't need a CM speaking to them about the shirt nor should the CM do it.

I'm not so sure. Both of you made the KKK connection without the OP even mentioning it. The verbal description was enough to get you to draw that conclusion.

KKK connotation or just MM carrying a cross, I find either idea in poor taste. Who ever designed the shirts obviously had no one doing oversight on it. Don't think I'd go so far as to report it to a CM though.

Author does say this.

If you are anyone over 30 and don't know what the author is referring to you must have been in a coma for most of your life.

AWESOME point!

Which is why I'm guessing the OP thought it looked like....well, whatever he thought it looked like :)

You are making my point. It wouldn't matter if you see a solid white figure in a pointy hat holding a cross, or simply read the description provided above. You are going to make the connection. I think it is a bit of a stretch to say: "I would never have made the connection without it being pointed out to me." Yes you would.

I'd take these girls over some of the girls outfits I saw last week! Wow! It takes the expression "leave nothing to the imagination" to a whole new level!!!

THIS!!!

I was there last week and I couldn't believe what some of these parents allow their daughters to where out of the house.

I'd take the modestly dressed girls with a cross on their shirt over that any day of the week.

Because the OP pointed it out with sufficient detail regarding what THEY were thinking. Had I seen it I probably would have though, ha, Mickey with a cross. and no unless it was a white outline Mickey with just his eyeballs showing then I likely would not have immediately thought Klan.

and unless I thought they were deliberately trying to depict the Klan I don't think I would have reported it. I don't care about the fact that they were using religious icons although I understand some persons don't want to see religious icons in public.
