A week at Disney... with mono!

Oh, I would not be taking the ECV or WC onto attractions. I am definitely planning on parking it and walking (if I do rent it at all!):thumbsup2

I have a weakened immune system due to previous health problems and I am planning ahead "just in case". I would rather have a plan in place before the trip than get down there and spend thousands of dollars and feel completely wiped out!

With a weakened immune system, you have to be very careful not to overtire yourself or the disease will carry on for longer than normal & complications can arise that take a LONG time to get over. Please be sure to get the rest you need.

Not everyone is all better after 4 weeks with mono. I had it the summer I turned 16 just 2 days after school let out. It was the first illness I'd ever had (never missed a day of school up to that point - never had chicken pox, or anything). My throat swelled so much they had to hospitalize me & insert an oxygen tube until the swelling went down. (TMI, maybe, but my throat actually looked like cauliflower!:scared1:) I was sick & on codeine for 6-8 weeks after the hospitalization. And I was a track athlete & very healthy when I came down with it. So you just never know.

I don't remember much of that summer vacation. Must have been all the codeine.:rotfl: I was overly tired for months after that. What I'm trying to say is, everyone responds differently to disease, but immunosuppressed people are at an increased risk. I should know, I've been on immunosuppressant drugs for years.:sad2:

Mono is caused by the Epstein Barr virus. This virus lives on in you after you're over feeling sick. Please be sure your doctor is aware of all your prior medical issues so he/she can give you the best possible care.

And I actually have been attending as many school classes as I can, but I am also careful to take care of myself.

Dawn, thank you so much for your reply! Thanks for taking the time to detail all that out, that is so sweet of you. I'm hoping I'll be feeling a lot better by the time the trip rolls around... but I am looking forward to it no matter what!

You're very welcome, sweetie! In my case, the thing that scares me is the unknown, so I like to get an overview of what I can expect before starting out. That's why the detailed review of ECV use!

Feel better! If your throat is still sore, try gargling with salt water or baking soda water. It helps kill the bad bacteria & soothes the throat. :thumbsup2

Isn't Valtrex for genital herpes? Not mono? You must have had a really good time in Cancun. :rotfl2:

It's a new protocol for mono, there was an article in the paper on it. I have been on valcyte for severe chronic epstein-barr and other virus'.

Also, OP, you need to consider that although the length of the lines may not look long, standing could be an issue for you if you still tire out by then. Standing can make you tired much faster than simply walking!

"is an infectious, very widespread viral disease caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), one type of herpes virus,"

Thats from wikipedia, mononuclleosis. its not full fleged herpes, like no sores, but it still is a viral infection and valtrex is a medicine against viral infections.

and yeah i did have a great time in cancun but not that way. ive been with my wife forever and am and was very faithful still. you can contract mono from lack of sleep, stress on the body, malnutrition and dehydration........... 5 days in cancun, 7 hours of sleep total, 5 bottles of various kinds of vodka and not eating (i think somewhere in there i ate the ice thinking it was cool bc i wasnt drinking the water too). once you have it it never really goes away. so to the OP be careful from here on out. i got it 2 more times in college from lack of sleep/too much partying. getting up to go to your engineering calc classes at 7am when you have mono isnt fun.
