Hi I submitted the form for my marriage license to A Wedding for you Inc.

My fiance and I just received a letter by FedEx saying we must sign in a document and must appear before notary public for our signatures . then return the doc back to A Wedding for you Inc. right away.

For those who applied for the license thru A Wedding for You Inc, who is qualified as "Notary public"? Anyone in my family?

I am also told to instruct notary public to "affix their seal next to the Groom's signature and include expiration date of their commission" , what does that mean?

Thx
M

A notary public is someone that must witness you and your FI signing the marriage license. You'll have to bring photo id with you, to prove to the notary who you are. Unless a family member has taken the class to be a notary public, they can't do this for you. Most accountants and lawyers have a notary in their office who will be happy to help you. The fee is generally $5-$10 (in my area).

A Notary Public is someone who is legally empowered to witness and certify the validity of documents and to take affidavits and depositions, it's not just anybody.

You might find one in the phone book, or call your City to find out where you can find one. They are not hard to find! :)

Don't sign your documents UNTIL you are at the office of the Notary!!!
They must see you sign, then they will sign and "seal" the document for you. Usually there is a fee (maybe around $25).

Hi there. Many banks have notary public too and i don't know if they charge at all. It might depend on the bank. I did not pay because my husband is the bank manager and we had someone from the branch do it for us. Not sure if it is free for everyone though. My husband was not allowed to do this for us though, has to be someone other than yourselves. And yes, don't sign it until you are asked to by the notary, the notary has to witness your signature!

Take Care!

I know that where I bank I had some paperwork notarized for free yesterday. Check with where you bank first! There may also be someone in your office that can do it for you. Just ask around.

You might also want to check with the Town or County offices where you live. When I worked at the Town Hall, I had to be a Notary. Sometimes you can find them there and they don't charge.

Good question.

I see signs at places like "Mail boxes, etc" and other shipping locations that say "Notary Public here". Does anyone know if these would work?

Yes, those would work. The be a “notary public” you must be certified, so it doesn’t matter where you find the person. They will have an official seal (either a stamp or a paper embosser) that they will stamp on the paper as proof that they witnessed you sign the document.

At our bank, they will notarize documents for free for their account holders. Sometimes libraries have them too.

Yes if they advertise a notary that would work.

I can't believe how much some of you say that these places charge you, there are laws regulating how much they can charge. I don't charge people and I think that the laws limit it to a small fee. I would check your bank.

We've had documents notorized at our bank as well as places like Mail Boxes etc. Just bring your ID's. It's usually less than $10 and it's very easy.

How did most of you obtain your marriage license?? We were planning to arrive in Florida on Saturday and get married that Monday, so there really isn't much time to go obtain one in person. I am just curious if most of you were able to go in person or if you did the mail thing???

Personally, if I were arriving on a Saturday and getting married on Monday, I would get the license a head of time. I wouldn't want to worry about getting it on Monday before the ceremony and the clerk's office is closed during the weekend. We used a wedding for you to obtain our license. You can find more info about them at www.aweddingforyou.com

We went to Kroger for a notary. Many of the places we could think of were only open during the weekday (like banks and courthouses) and it was going to be difficult getting there on both of our schedules, then someone suggested calling kroger and seeing if they had a notary and they did and there was no fee and we were able to get it taken care of on a sunday afternoon.

I am a notary and everyone has given you good advice. Another place that usually has a notary available is a car dealership. They have to notarize car titles when someone trades in their vehicles. Notary fees do vary, but are usually not very expensive.

hfehr1s - If you are arriving Saturday and marrying Monday, you should definitely obtain your license before you arrive. Sounds like the other ladies have given you a great place to start.
