We continued our M.O. of not being in a hurry and meandered over to the boat. We just missed one, and had to wait a while, so we were late for our ADRs at Bluezoo, but the crowds hadn't been bad anywhere, so I wasn't too worried. I was really excited about this ADR, since I had read several awesome reviews of the restaurant.
We got there and I immediately felt like Dorothy in Wizard of Oz and whispered to DH "we're not in Kansas anymore." I felt like we stuck out like gaudy-tourist sore thumbs. There was snickering about my bride ears by the hostess and we were the only people dressed for the parks.
I get that the Swalphin is a convention resort, and therefore there are conventioneers there, but I didn't think it would be such a huge difference. I felt so out of place.
We later found out that there was a huge software convention there that week, and they had basically taken over the whole resort. So perhaps this atmosphere is not typical.
The restaurant was EMPTY. There were 3 other tables besides us.
They stuck us in the furthest, darkest corner as to not disturb their other guests (okay, I'm sure that wasn't their thought, and we did have a window seat
so I shouldn't exaggerate)
Our view from Siberia
An attempt to take a picture in the dark with no flash.
Our waitress spoke very little English which made things very difficult, but we split the Garlic Roasted Jumbo Shrimp with creamy polenta appetizer. Yum!
I forgot to take a picture again so if you're wondering what it looks like, you're out of luck. If you want to know what the plate looks like after I've eaten everything except for the shrimp tales off of it
you're in luck!
We also had a basket of bread and fennel butter
Mmmm
.tastes like bread
Then our entrees came (though again, I forgot to take a picture right away)
I had the tuna with herb silky potato, garlic spinach, mushroom vinaigrette,
The potatoes were fantastic, the tuna and the spinach were okay
.
and DH had the spiced swordfish.
DH said mine was much better than his, and mine wasn't that good. It wasn't bad, but it was just seared tuna - nothing super special in my book. I've had it where it's amazing
this was akin to how I make it myself at home. DH said the fish was over done and he didn't care for the sauce either.
I was so disappointed. I'm willing to concede that it was an off night, or maybe we didn't order right, but for the prices, I was just not impressed at all.
Another tangent about the prices, my "house" wine is Conundrum. We get it costco for $17 a bottle. I understand that resturants have mark-ups usually in the 200% range, and have often seen it at restaurants all over - including on cruise ships for $30 - $40. This is understandable, but the $65 price tag on it at Bluezoo is just ridiculous. DH ordered it before we looked closely at the price, and I've got to say - that is just highway robbery! That's almost a $50 mark-up from store prices.
We decided that we were unimpressed, full and that our wallets couldnt take anymore, so we decided to skip dessert. Our waitress kept asking us if we liked chocolate. We would say, "yes, but we're so full"
About that time, we could see some fireworks from IllumiNations. That was kind of nice.
The kind of firework pictures you take when you've seen more fireworks in one week than you have in the 2 last years combined
We were just finishing up our wine, and our waitress brought out a special dessert for us for our honeymoon.
We were so full, but a free dessert is a free desert so we 'forced' ourselves to eat it!
It was this little dessert thing of 4 chocolate bites. By far the best part of the meal!
Nothing was too big or rich. It was all just delicious.
Really
don't
want
too
but
must
eat
free
dessert
Though I was not impressed with our entrees at all, I think that eventually we will try Bluezoo again. The appetizer and dessert were fantastic, but the price, atmosphere and entrees were sub-par in our experience. But again, with so many great reviews out there - I'm definitely willing to call it an off night and give it another try.
We were beyond full. That dessert really pushed us over the edge. So we decided to walk over to the boardwalk and catch a bus to DTD from there. We had a nice leisurely walk down the boardwalk, and commented how weird it seemed that less than a week before we were there with our family and friends the night before the wedding.
We slowly made our way to the bus and then onward to DTD. Originally we were just going to catch a bus straight to the Poly, and as we were getting off the bus, a bus to the poly was pulling up - what luck. We got off the bus and started to make our way to the other bus, and I just went down. I twisted my ankle badly (actually it still hurt for about 3 weeks when we got back too!) so DH rushed to help me, and the bus to the Poly pulled out.
Knowing it would be a while until the next bus, we decided to hit up WOD. There was some wedding merchandise I wanted to pick up, that they didn't have at the resort. So we walked around downtown and pondered getting a drink somewhere, but knew we really should get back to the hotel because we had to be at the gates to the MK by 7:15 the next morning.
So we waited for the next bus, and went home to the Poly, and slept well.
