I have lived in Clermont the majority of my life. I always knew the cops were the good olde boys. I thought though with the infusion of new blood in town that things would change. It is still the good olde boys club in Clermont. They are still the same abusive cops that I remember from my childhood.

If you are going to visit in Clermont be careful. There is also the typical police brutality involved in this town. It is time to make this stop but I doubt it ever will. The best thing we can do is stay away.

The thought that this stuff still goes on makes me want to leave the country for a country that is honest about their police brutality. At least there I know what I am getting into.

Pardon me, but I don't know where Clermont is?? And do you have articles to back these things up? Just wondering, it's a lot of claims you're making about an entire department.

You're saying police officers are typically brutal? :confused3 That reads like you mean even outside of Clermont.

Since her location is "20 minutes from the mouse" I'm guessing she means Clermont Fl. But I have no clue what she's talking about.

I guess we'll just have to wait until the OP comes back to let us know what sparked this outrage tonight.

Clermont, Florida was my first instinct. I had friends who lived in Clermont...I was never personally there but I know where it is.

Clermont is in Florida. It is the first town inside Lake county when leaving from Disney down 192 West.

There are no articles because the press does not cover the problems here. I suspect it is an arrangement they have with the press. In the town it is well known and always has been known amongst the locals that the cops have played games and even caused intentional harm to people.

I had been told that the new chief is trying to clean the problem up but he is clearly in over his head because it is still happening. The state needs to come in.

I only know what I have experienced personally which is mainly at the hands of the Clermont cops as a child. I presume this sort of poor behavior is accepted in small towns all over the south.

In the past a cop named Officer Simons emotionally abused me and threatened my Dog. I used to live in fear that he would shot my dog anytime he escorted the ambulance to my home for my Grandpa. He tried to move my grandma whens he broke her hip which made her scream so my dog went after his pants leg. Uh yeah dog thought he was killing grandma. Everytime after that he would make inappropriate comments to me. Not to mention the time he black mailed me and emotionally abused me into getting into an ambulance.

I had a friend who had problems with them this weekend. Much worse than anything I have been through so they are clearly still at it.

Perhaps all police officers are bad like this. Just be careful if you get pulled over in Clermont.

I would be interested in see what Ducklite has to say about all of this, considering she lives there, from what I remember.

I'll have to keep an eye on this thread, because enquiring minds need to know. popcorn::

So all Clermont cops are bad? You seem troubled.

Actually, Clermont is north on 27 if you are attempting to reach the town by traveling west on 192. :)

It does sound like you have had some unpleasant moments with the local force, however keeping a family pet (dog, cat, whatever) under control in an emergency (particularly where it may appear that a stranger is "hurting" a family member) is strongly recommended.

The officer that was attempting to help, only to have your dog essentially attack him really is within his rights to be concerned and react to that.

IF you belive he had over reacted or behaved in any type of unacceptable behavior then report the officer to his commander, or captain. You can always call the Attorney General's office too.

I have no experience with the Clermont police force, so cannot really comment on their general behavior with the public.

So because you put the ambulance crew and the police officer in danger by not putting the dog in another room or it's kennel you feel the cop is the problem?!?!?!? Get real!! Take some responsibility for yourself and the dog and put the dog in another room when emergency personnel have to treat someone in the household. So called sweet natured dogs turn guard dog when their family members have strangers (aka emergency workers) hovering over them, touching them and taking them away.

So what is the real story behind them supposedly making you go in the ambulance? The only time police officers persuade people to go in ambulances is if they think they are unable to make rational decisions or are a harm to themselves. Around here if you seem to have suicidal thoughts they give you a choice of going with them to a mental health treatment center or going by ambulance to the local hospital. Anyone on drugs or that are intoxicated cannot make rational decisions. Sorry but ambulances do not kidnap people and that is what you're implying above.

I agree the poster sounds a little "off" but a police officer shouldn't keep making frighting comments to a child about an incident that has happened in the past IE the dog. If the dog was still considered a danger after the grandma incident the officer should have dealt with it in an official capacity not harrassed a child (I'm assuming this happened when she was little?) And what about the blackmailing etc?

Please remember people who abuse authority and take advantage of others LOVE to victimize people with "issues" because who will believe them? Not saying that is the case here but everyone was so quick to dismiss her just because her post was odd. And I have seen old boy networks still in place though that wasn't in the south so much as in Ohio and parts of West Virginia that border Ohio. Why does everyone think nepotism and cronyism exist only in the south?

Usually when it is thought that there may be corrupt activity going on in any police force or any kind of agency for that matter, it would be at least casually mentioned on the local news or even the paper.

Not one word of this has been on any of the news channels here in Orlando.

Are you KIDDING? Corruption universally is ignored or not covered by the press until it's connected to a public crime and then it HAS to be covered.

I am accustomed to police corruption, I've seen it all my life. But there are bad eggs in EVERY business, anywhere there are human beings there is a percentage of people who are there for the wrong reasons. To claim they all are like that is ridiculous, one bad apple should not reflect all of them.

I've stayed in Clermont in vacation homes about 10 times in the last few years. I think the problem the OP mentions concerns residents, not the occasional vacationer like us.

I too hope Ducklite responds to this ... But the OP has stated a vague problem and some people have been skeptical. I can buy the skepticisim wholeheartedly. We need more info and facts to judge what is going on.

Still there have been other posters ready to attack the OP and defend the cops simply because they're cops or because they KNOW all cops aren't bad, also without knowing all of the facts. This is just as irresponsible, IMO.

Something has happened here that has the OP riled enough to post on the DIS, maybe it's factual, maybe it's her perspectice but walking in lemmings shoes in defense of someone or something you don't know is just as foolhearty as jumping on the OP's bandwagon and condemming the cops based on the 'facts' we currently have. We need more.

Just the facts ma'am...;)

I will say that the cops in Clermont are a little "different". That is one of the reasons I moved from there last year.
