Disney Day 6: Thursday, 5-Jun-2003
Our original plan was to take a day off at a water park after every two days touring in the major parks. The problem with that strategy was that it would mean we were not using a park ticket, and therefore not eligible, on both E-Ride days. If we put off our second water park day, we would end up at a water park on Saturday, which seemed like it would be crowded with locals. So, if we wanted to attend the E-Ride night, we needed to have our days off on Tuesday and Thursday. With Wednesday being a busy and fairly late day in the Magic Kingdom, we were glad to have Thursday as a rest day.
It was cloudy on Thursday morning, but not raining. As we went out to our car, the valet asked where we were headed, and we answered Typhoon Lagoon, if the weather holds out. He responded that it would be open as long as there was no nearby lightening. WRONG! When we got to Typhoon Lagoon, we were informed that they were closed for the entire day due to inclement weather. I assume that they expected the clouds and rain to keep people away, so that one water park would be enough capacity to hold everybody that wanted to go to a water park. We were quite disappointed. We decided that we didnt really want to return to Blizzard Beach, so we returned to our hotel.
We relaxed for a while, read, and discussed how to spend the rest of the day. We all wanted to eat at the Pepper Market again, and then the kids wanted to spend some time looking for pressed pennies. They asked at the front desk if there was a way to get a list of where the rest of the Villains Series could be found. The CM who helped them searched on the corporate intranet, and found a list of all the machines on property. She printed it out, and we took it to lunch to peruse while we dined. We found all 7 Villains pennies listed, and realized that one of them was going to present a special challenge. Villains Series penny #4 of 7 was located in the Food Court at Port Orleans French Quarter. Our first plan, (go in after dark,) was nixed by mom. Then, it occurred to me that there was very little chance that Disney would voluntarily forgo the opportunity to squeeze another 50-cents out of each of my children. If you were going to temporarily move a pressed penny machine, where would you put it? I mused. The answer came from the back seat: Someplace close by, because those things are really heavy. I avoided the obvious question, How do you know how heavy a pressed penny machine is?, because I wasnt sure I wanted to hear the answer. Right. Port Orleans Riverside. Well ask at the desk. We found it in the hallway across from the desk, before we got to the desk to ask. That afternoon, we visited All-Star Sports, Dixie Landings (yeah, I know), and Captain Jacks at Downtown Disney. We found 5 of the remaining 6 Villains Series pennies, with the 6th located inside Pleasure Island. That one had to be put off until later (much later, it turned out).
After we were done with our penny search, we went back to our hotel to relax, read, swim, and consume icy-cold fermented malt beverages until time for dinner. We eat at Cape May Café on every trip, and have enjoyed it each time. I guess it is the atmosphere, because the food hasnt been anything special. After dinner, more read and relax time, until time for IllumiNations.
Tomorrow, we finally get to my favorite rides!
