Dates: 8/10-8/14
Who: Me, DD, D Son-in-law and the Princess herself
Resort: The cabins at Fort Wilderness
Special Stuff: BBB, CRT, Akerhaus
I have been to Disney with my children about 11 or so times. But this is the first time I will be taking my granddaughter, aged 3 1/2 down to WDW, along with my DD and my Son-in-Law. A bit about me, I am in my mid 50's, don't look it at all, and I work for a huge IT consulting company who has three letters in their name. Think BLUE. I also am a life long NY'er, born in Brooklyn and live in Manhattan. The kids, as I will call them, just bought a condo in Brooklyn. Both are creative types and need to get away as well. We have taken two family trips together, One to Vegas and one Vegas-Grand Canyon-Phoenix extravaganza. They both were great trips.
At first I didn't think I could swing staying on site and the prospect of being offsite was a real downer. I looked around and tried to figure out the best way to arrange a suitable trip.
The last time I was there, I stayed for 9 days at the Polynesian. The youngest was like 16 so this was sure to be a trip of a different sort.
After my divorce, my son and I went down, religiously, year after year until he went away to college. That brings me from about 1997 to 2001. 2001, the last year I went. I still have the refill mugs at home that keep asking, "when you going back?"
So, when my darling granddaughter was born, I just couldnt wait until he circumstances were right to take her there. It would be the start of many many trips and become a yearly (is bi-annually too much to hope for) tradition.
My granddaughter adores the Disney princesses, especially Sleeping Beauty (who we'll get to later on). I pitched the idea to my daughter and son-in-law (she makes the decisions anyway) and they both loved it, but we had to work out the timings due to the nature of their jobs.
At first I though, okay, two rooms at the CBR. When I went to show the idea to my daughter, the Cabins at Fort Wilderness caught her eye and that seemed perfect, especially because of the things it had to offer a 3 1/2 year old.
Now, we are hardly campers - good honest city folk, but I thought this would work. We have a full kitchen, a separate bedroom (I'll use the murphy bed, and even a charcoal grill. We can break fast in and save money and time and the even cook something on that grill.
Well there is always a hitch, right? Well the first hitch is that DD had a batchelorette party on the tail end of our trip (we are doing M-F). So the plan is she would fly down with us, stay in the Sunshine State after the trip and I, my granddaughter and my SIL would come back.
Well, the wackadoodle bride, who sweared we had all the dates right before I booked the flights informed DD that she made a mistake and that they had to be in FLA the weekend before.
This means I had to redo DD flights but I also have to orchestrate the flight down. Lovely. (that in itself is a joke).
Well, I managed to get the flight thing sorted out. We are due down there 8/10 and have a ressie for the BBB mid afternoon for the little princess. We also have two character meals (CRT for breakfast and Akershaus for Lunch).
Now I always try to think and plan ahead. You see I am a project manager and its just what we do. Reading and Reading I decided tow additional things.
1. Get a car. Yeah I know they have transportation from Disney, but a screaming princess is something none of us want to deal with and it will allow off site grocery/other stuff runs as well as last minute changes
2. I Got a golf cart. My DD thought I was nuts until I told her the place is huge (Fort Wilderness) and this would give us mobility. My DD told my garnddaughter that we are getting a "Princess cart". So now I have to dig up some battery operated lights for decorations.
well, its my first PTR and I will try to write more tomorrow
Thanks
