We are a 4 year DVC member and just returned from a 6 night \7 day trip to the HHI resort. We stayed in the Grand Villa 3022 with 6 of our friends. The conditions of that room were deplorable!!!! Many things were broken ( although they did fix them in a timely manner) but the place was sooooo dirty not to mention ALL THE BUGS INCLUDING COCKROACHES!!!!!! My 7 year old woke up with huge bug bites on her legs twice! The only reason we bought into DVC was because we were impressed on how beautiful and comfortable the rooms were. We paid THOUSANDS of dollars for this? Do members get the rooms with the worst conditions and the visitors the best so they might buy into it? I will be notifying Disney about this but I wanted to warn everyone what could happen to you!

I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. By all means, do write a detailed letter to Disney that explains all of the problems you had. I've heard great things about HHI, so I hope that your experience was the exception, but of course that doesn't do anything to fix your bad trip.

Yes, please write and tell management of your experience. Be specific about your dates and your room number. That way they can make sure this does not happen again.

We have never had anything but a great room. We have never seen a bug. The only repair issue was once the stopper was broken in the tub, but was remedied within 30 minutes.

You say you have been members for 4 years. Is this your first trip? If not, how were your other trips? Don't judge anything by one bad experience unless all your other trips were also that bad.

We are DVC members and HHI is our home base.....I'm sorry you had such a horrible stay.....we've been there about 15 times (and going again the week of 4th of July) and we've never had a bad stay. We love going there and honestly feel like we are "coming home" when we go there. We've had a few minor problems but they have been fixed every time shortly after we called. As far as bug problems, we have seen a few 3 or 4 roaches there but living in such a hot, humid & wet setting, we don't think anything about it. NOW, if it was a bunch of roaches........THAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT! lol I would recommend writing to management about your visit.....it can't hurt. I hope you will give Hilton Head another chance.....it really is a "Magical" place at the beach! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

Did you make a complaint WHILE you were there?

My very 1st stay in a WDW resort, not DVC, but we had a cricket in the room. My friend was freaked out, and called the front desk. they moved us to a different room just for the night, so they could get rid of the cricket, and credited me the cost of the room for the night.

If that is how they treat a room with a cricket, I can't imagine Disney allowing cockroaches. Unless, nobody has been reporting them. :confused3

We were at Hilton Head for the first week of June in a two bedroom on the marsh. Everything was perfect as usual. Same number of bugs around outside at night. This is the lowcountry of SC. All resorts in HH have problems with bugs. Some of the members of TUG have compained about the bugs at other timeshares on the island. Many of the resorts place fliers in the checkin info expaining about the bugs and how difficult they are to control.

The bites on your seven year old are probably mosquitos that came inside when the doors were left open. We have to make our kids aware of leaving doors open even at home.

I have to ask how often you have vacationed in SC. I live near HH and have spent each summer growing up on the coast of SC. If you don't like bugs, don't come to SC. We have plenty of them all year long.

Also, can you explain how dirty it was? I am just curious how deplorable Disney would leave a GV.

FYI, this was supposedly one person's experience. We have stayed at OKW more than 20 times and in GV's several times, and have never had anything even close to a bad experience. Take these things with a grain of salt.

Are there people who LIKE BUGS??!

You may want to suggest your quote above to the SC Tourism Board as a new slogan :scratchin , but I don't think they'll use it.

Hmmmm.... 1st post and a huge complaint after 4 years of being a DVC member..........hmmmm......and no follow-up post or other posts on the boards. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Can you spell S - P - A - M?

LOL! I have edited my post with a roll eyes smilie.

I have checked into DVC villa's many times now, and I can't imagine the word "deplorable" being used to describe any room Disney owned.

What is weird to me is two of these "my GV was horrible 6 months ago" posts have suddenly popped up at basically the same time.

I do have sympathy for anyone that finds themselves in a bad position on vacation and feels like it destroys the trip. I don't let the turkeys and the little things get me down if I can help it. :)

Also, I still believe the best policy for problems is to notify management BEFORE you leave. I, like many others here, would have been at the front desk until I was satisfied, even if it meant sending the family on without me for a bit one day.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. But if you are so miserable with your decision, then sell your DVC membership. I'm sure there are TONS of people on this board who would be interested. :cool1:

I agree! I've had expereinces with DVC CMs, & I really belive that they DO want to hear from members about the good and the not so good. How can they "fix" problems if they are not aware of them? I don't hesitate to let the front desk, housekeeping, engineering, etc. know about the good & the not so good. The CMs seem to be greatful for the info.

I don't think anybody LIKES bugs, but in the south bugs are just a fact of life. I would be grossed out if roaches were crawling over the countertops, but I have seen people freak because they saw one walk by on the patio. Spraying can keep them outside for the most part. We moved up here 6 years ago and we battle mice every winter...YUK! At least I can step on a bug!!!
