A vent and a reason why the new DAS ststem is there

I agree, throwing the cigarette on ground is not only rude, it's littering, and in most places, illegal.

As for him smoking even though you were there first, sorry, but unless it was posted as "No Smoking", he did absolutely nothing wrong by smoking there.

He may well have been a GAC abuser, but I'm of the opinion that the changes were due not so much due to the non-disabled that lied to get the GAC, but due to the number of disabled that overused it, in the form of getting more accommodations than they actually needed to access the parks.

Sorry, but I'm with the OP on this one. It is rude to go near someone who clearly isn't smoking and inflict your dirty habit on them. Why, with the whole car park there, did he feel the need to go close to OP's van to smoke? I very much doubt that a disabled section of a car park is a smoking section!

... unless he saw that OP's husband was disabled and really was being a total jerk in that he was bragging that he could get these extras and didn't need them!

If it's not posted as "No Smoking", then there is good reason to assume that smoking is permitted. Until smoking is made illegal, you don't have to like, but you have to deal with it in places where it is permitted.

As to why there, perhaps his car was parked there too? I highly doubt he went out looking for someone to annoy with his cigarette smoke.

Thank you very much...I am new to using different services for my son and some of them make me a bit nervous...Hoping to make this the best trip he has ever had---we have had a rough year

:goodvibes We've all been there. It's not easy having to ask for help for our kids. BUT, most people are supportive, kind, and understanding.

There are bad eggs and crappy people everywhere, but you aren't taking advantage of anyone or anything. Enjoy your vacation and enjoy watching your child smile and laugh in WDW :goodvibes

I have often found that this is a case where a dose of polietness goes a long way. MOST (Not all unfortunately) smokers when politely approached will move down wind.

For me, I am highly allergic to smoke and am asthmatic. In situations like the OP was talking about where we are somewhere first I try approaching the smoker and politely explain my reaction to smoke and why we can't move from our location and then ask as nicely as I can if they could move away. I then apologize for being an inconvenience to them and thank them when they move away. Rarely I do come across people who refuse to move and in those situations we move ourselves.

Doing something like this as soon as the smoke was noticed might have saved the OP from some levels of frustration. But I do feel for the OP having to listen to someone be so rude is beyond frustrating. Unfortunately Rude and Oblivious has become a part of life these days. Doesn't make it any easier to deal with.

OMG some of the things I read on other websites about the DAS...I happen to be one of those parents that knows what their kid can handle and what he can't...A lot of planning has gone into this trip...I figure with the fp+ and the DAS we should be able to do the rides that he wants to do...:)

Agree with all of this 100%.

I think the transition is harder on people who were used to the GAC. As long as you know your own child and their limitations you should be absolutely fine! Planning is the biggest factor in all of this and it sounds like you've already got that handled :thumbsup2

Just had to say I have asthma also smoke is one of my triggers if I was telling the story I also would have mentioned the smoking just because it's an always present issue for me not that it had anything to do with her story

I think this thread has kind of run its course, so closing.
