A vent about our recent Disney Magic sailing experience.

I’m only to going to pile on by asking if you got that Manager’s name! And then submitted it to someone who might do something. It’s not as much the denial of making an item special order, it’s the turning away and not responding.
Honestly I did and I caved. I gave the benefit of the doubt that maybe that person was having a bad day and I know that makes me part of the problem why things don’t get corrected. I did mention it here as a point that the cast members wanted to do it but they aren’t getting the support they need. I know I should have but let it go

Are you Josa3279?

I was recently listening to a podcast with Len Testa (forgot the name of it) and he was telling a story about his partner Jim was with a Disney executive who recently retired after like 40 years with the company. They were going into the parks and the former executive who had some special type of pass was turned away because he didn’t have a park reservation and they had to go to Epcot and scan in and back to Magic Kingdom due to the reservation system. He was then saying that the big thing that has changed in how the company is run is that the executives no longer walk into the parks, ships, etc. and experience it as the guests do. The former executive even asked to speak with someone to discuss this problem and was given a piece of paper with an email address and told he would have to email his concerns.
In my opinion this has a trickle down effect. Cast members don’t feel like they can accomplish anything because they cant get the support from higher ups and that just hurts moral. Guests like us who have been so used to Disney being able To fix issues then become more frustrated. Disney has always been known for their attention to detail and we guests have been so used to that so we notice these things and expect better. I was one of the people who defended Disney to no end and they could do no wrong in my opinion but I will say lately on my last few trips I have seen things like the OP mentioned in parks and hotels and even in cast members who don’t have the same high spirits they used to, they are overworked and under appreciated. My trips have still been magical and I still plan to go very often (2 more trips booked already) but I see more little things that management is letting slide And it’s not good. On our last trip my wife has a salt intolerance and virtually every time we were at a pretzel stand we asked for one with no salt and if they made them fresh at the stand the cast members made her a fresh one with no salt. We were at Magic Kingdom and one day the stand did this for us. We were there 2 days later and same stand the cast member started making it for us and some manager came by and said don’t do that. The cast member explained my wife had an intolerance and the manager just said we’re no. I was calling out to the manager to ask what was wrong and and she looked at me, I mean directly at me, I said I’m sorry they did that for me two days ago so we came back and just asked again. The woman literally looked at me and turned and walked away, not a word completely ignored us. Look I understand if you can’t do it and we don’t look for special treatment but for years Disney meant ask and if it’s at all possible we will do it. Now I am starting to see little things like the OP and it does make a difference.
Now I know some people will say it’s stupid to complain because they wouldn’t make me a pretzel or a light fixture has a tear but little things can add up
OK go ahead pile on!
Disney - cruises and parks - are just too expensive to accept the things that are happening now. We're very happy to take our money elsewhere.

Then you are braver than I am. I would have been intimidated and want to cry if a person in authority was mean to me or a worker.

I should have thrown a wink in there to better convey that my “piling on” was kidding - You had done nothing wrong to deserve any derogatory responses.

No wonder we are hearing reports that cast members don’t seem as cheerful as in the past.

Just got off the Magic this AM and we were very pleased. Very few, small negatives (same as the ones we had 3~5 years ago: steak/beef is usually bad; oatmeal is mush; DietCoke tastes funny). Did not notice diminished upkeep. Television entertainment w. World Series, was a tad better. Tony from Spain was there 'nuff said!

Mostly "Excellents" for service, food, entertainment, competence/attitude of crew. We would not hesitate to go again IF we can find some interesting itineraries.

Yes, still a DCL fan!!

The Diet Coke does taste funny. I think it is fleet wide. Don't know what they are doing to it, but it seems like it somehow gets a fruity flavor or something, but not in a pleasant way. For some reason, I really like the oatmeal.

Edit: Glad to hear your experience was good. I really like the Magic.

That's good to hear. I read last week a thread about the Magic and recent food experiences. It sounded very rough (and that's putting it mildly).
Only "Very Good" for us was the Palo food (two of the items missed their marks a bit) although the entire dining experience was "Excellent".

DW has many food allergies/requirements and Adrian and dining staff never missed. We are grateful.

Just got off the NY to San Juan repositioning cruise on the Magic. The Magic is just fine. I guess it can be like looking at a prism because my assessment is that for a 25 year old ship, it is in remarkable condition. I walk deck 4 often and the inside areas on the front and back are in pristine condition. Same for the adult pool area we're always at, especially when you look up at the radar and flag structure. As always, maintenance crew were crawling all over this ship.

The peeling orange bit on the chandelier is a film put over the top part of it to match the Halloween theme. Kind of like a window cling you might use oneself as a decoration. They'd probably need a crane to fix it so I guess they hoped (wrongly) no one would notice and wait until all the Halloween things were moved. It seemed like it would be quite a task to tear that off. The lesson to be learned is, don't use those filmy things next Halloween.

I also was paying attention to the light fixtures. I must have come across thousands of them and didn't see one that was broken or not operating.

The food was great. Nothing disappointed. I guess everyone has different expectations and experiences and everyone's opinion is just as valid as mine, yours or the OP. I'm glad my experience was a great one, and hope that the next one for the OP is just as good or better.

I've watched a few (or more than a few) blogs and the vloggers are always raving about the beef. Now I'm scared that I'm coming with a higher standard. I do know Disney vloggers don't keep it very real in terms of food and that, but well. Let's see what happens

The HeadWaiter explained: no open flames. So, baking, roasting (prime rib, lamb chops, etc) will be fine. But if one likes his/my sirloin or even burgers with the searing one gets over a flame, vs. in a pan, that can be problematic.

Not sure about the Wish's version of a steakhouse.

I've found that the beef tenderloin and chateaubriand are delicious on all 3 ships we've been on! Some of the other cuts might not be as good, especially if they can't grill them?

Will definitely gonna try it and report back. Only 70 days left for my cruise
