A Two Short, Too Different Spring Break Trip (Time to Say Goodbye)

I know! The scene where they glide over that skinny but really tall waterfall even made me feel a little motion sick for just a second. And there was a scene where they swooped down into a deep gorge and glided over the water. Both those clips looked just like Soarin' to me!!!:lovestruc

Those are the exact same scenes that made me think of Soarin'! LOL

OT: I know it's not that unusual but you location looks very familiar to me. You're not a Charlotte Mommy are you? If you have no clue what I'm talking about please forgive me! LOL

Wow, that sounds like a carbon copy of my years of teaching. I saw some of the most rediculous mess during those years. One of my students threatened to stab me in the stomach with his plastic lunch knife while I was pregnant. And about half of the parents were nuts too. What a stressful time!! And my kids didn't care about learning or testing either. One year, I had about five or so students just run down the answer form and fill in anything and never read a single question. They were a low group, and I know the tests were frustrating for them, but still????????? It just makes you feel like you have wasted a year of your life when you try so hard and get nothing in return from some of them. That's why I knew I needed to be a SAHM. I didn't want to give all of my time, love and energy to other people's kids and neglect my own in the process, especially since so many of my students just didn't care. My heart breaks for the ones that have a rotten home life though. If we as a country don't get over the attitude of blaming the school systems for what's wrong and start realizing that it all begins at home, then we are going to be in a real mess. I'm really concerned about America in so many ways right now. I pray for God to have mercy on us, but I just don't know why He would.

On a lighter note............. enjoy your fun afternoon and let us know how you liked it! :cool1:

It's a messed up system, for sure.
The kids can't help their home lives.
The teachers can't be responsible for the baggage they bring with them, yet we are accountable for their learning.
The learning is not judged on what they really learned during the year, but rather the scores they make on a one week battery of tests.

I would love to be a stay-at-home mom, too. You know any nice 52 year old granddads out there who are looking for a plain Jane old MeMom to share life with?

I love all the DTD merchandise pictures! Did you know on Earth Day if you went to a Disney Store you could get that tote bag for free? That Celebrate poster is so cute! I can't wait to look at them closer very very soon!

I did see a promotion about bringing in plastic bottles or something, but I knew I wouldn't be going over there on Earth Day, so I didn't pay much attention.

It's almost May, and that's a special month for you and your family!

Oh well at least I will get to see her... please dont worry about a birthday surprise, once was enough! It will just be cool to see you again and Natalie will LOVE seeing Brooklynn (who she can now play with) and Isabella cuz she loves babies, but dont worry I wont let her be all over her :rotfl2:

We're requesting the 60's this time. Don't know if we'll get it, but we'll still meet you at the pool. Brooklynn would love a big girl to play with her on the steps of the pool!

I thought the exact same thing about Soarin'!

I was happy to hear your thoughts before I left, because you know how I feel about Soarin'!

I am just catching up on your tr. My computer crashed and I was without a computer for about a month, so I got behind on all my subscriptions. My brother gave me a perfectly good laptop that he said wasn't fast enough for him. It is only a year old! I am slowly catching up. I know this is late but I want to say congratulations on beautiful Ballarie. Children are such a blessing!!! Ok now I am off to finish reading your tr.

Yes, they are!
I'm glad you have a computer now so that you can visit with all of your Dis friends.

Happy Saturday! Testing is over...

It was nice of BrooklynnsMommy to stop by for some hugs. She is so thoughtful.

I had to get caught up, I have been busy.

Ursula is quite creepy with her evil yellow eyes.
Lexi has a beannie Ursula doll and I always find it hidden away, in my closet...(She has never liked her.)

I'm so excitted to see the "Celebration" signage and decorations.
I have a huge smile when I see the commercials with the balloons, I can't wait! :)

I need some of those cool popcorn buckets and the Fantasmic mug. Where did you get the mug? I need to make note of it.

Cute Tink bag, oh the temptation....;)
The tree bag is great.

Lexi wanted to say the dalmation pup is "Awwww, to cute".

Nine Genie's flying.....

I can't believe I don't own a mickey head Xmas ornament, I need to fix that.

Have a wonderful time at the movie with Trent. Enjoy the company.

I'm going to venture out into the garage to retrieve my spring/summer clothes. Wish me luck, I may never return......:rotfl2:

I put your package together, I was waiting on a little treat to arrive at my store before I could mail it. It's now ready to go, so you should get it in a few weeks. Maybe sooner.

The Fantasmic mugs are at the popcorn kiosks. I was happy to see anything with Fantasmic on it. I have looked for a Fantasmic t-shirt, but alas, I have come up empty-handed!

Yes, I think you need at least one Mickey head ornament. They've got gigantic ones and sets of smaller ones.

When I see the commercials, I feel like they are talking about my place, like I have some kind of ownership in it. :goodvibes

Hope you found your way out of the garage. I felt that way about that back room, but it looks pretty good now after several hours of work.

I can't believe you are sending us a package. We don't deserve it, but you know we'll take anything Disney!!! Or is it Canadian stuff? I'll be happy for that, too!

My dd saw that picture and she did start to sing that song.:rotfl2: Though she listens to more Veggie Tales cds then she watches the movies. She usually picks a Disney movie.

I am all caught up now. I love all the nature pictures. I grew up watching the Disney True Life series and now I check them out of library so my dd and I can watch them together. She loves animals and already tells us she is going to be and animal dr. (she is only 3). The zoo is her favorite place to visit. She asks at least once a day if we can go take a walk there.

One of my favorite old Disney shows about animals is the one about the Yellowstone cubs. Does anybody remember that one? It was a Wonderful World of Disney show.

Your daughter should just go ahead and set her sights on an Animal Kingdom CP position right now!

What a GREAT surprise!!!

Very sweet of Jill to do that!!

I'm very excited!!!
We have plans that evening prob 5 or 6ish but that's the only thing. So hopefully when you guys head to the mall just let me know and I can head over there too

I'm glad you are finished!! I'm sure you are very excited and anxious for the results....I hope they did well!

Funny story. My niece just had her testing also this week in Williamson Co. She is in 2nd grade and had told her mom the week before they weren't having them. That they (assuming she meant the school) didn't have the $$$$. :lmao: We just thought that was so funny and that someone got this started and it just ran through the kids and with the 'bad economy' that they keep hearing about they prob. really thought it was true

:grouphug::hug:....those poor babies!! It's just hard for me to imagine what actually goes on out there b/c I'm just not around it like you are and thank goodness never had to experience anything like that. Also a BIG  for you for everything you do for those kiddos. They are very lucky to have such a wonderful teacher like you!!

I'll let you know about next week. We're doing our Disney stuff about lunchtime, and then when everyone leaves, I know the girls will need naps. By the time we make it to Opry Mills, it may be too late for you. We could also go for Sunday after church, if you want to. Maybe we could meet at the food court and eat? We'll talk more.

That's what I'm afraid of if I move down to second - that Metro will drop the testing another grade. Maybe I should go for 1st or K!

There's something to your niece's story. We've been told money is what keeps Metro from testing below 3rd.

I know! The scene where they glide over that skinny but really tall waterfall even made me feel a little motion sick for just a second. And there was a scene where they swooped down into a deep gorge and glided over the water. Both those clips looked just like Soarin' to me!!!:lovestruc

The scenery was amazing! I'm going to elaborate more about the movie in a minute.

Great minds think a like!!

MeMom, our 3-5 grades just took the Ohio Achievement tests. I know that DD9 is happy that they are over too!
So happy for you that you were able to see your little ones, even if for a brief moment!

They stayed about half an hour, I guess. Just long enough to feed and change Bella and let Ben have a water and potty break. Jill had a couple of teachers to see who had given her gifts.

I'm glad that most all of us - teachers and kids - seem to be past the testing. Now we can relax a little. For the rest of the year, I really push higher level Math skills to get the ready for 4th grade.

******************************

And now, movie news, so anyone who doesn't want to hear about it should just skip this part.

I wanted to come back and say that it was just awesome and beautiful, but beautiful is not adequate enough. I was sitting in the theater thinking that stunning and spectacular were better descriptions. That's not necessarily about the storyline, but about the beauty of our world and the way it was captured on film. The storyline about following the three animal families - polar bears, elephants, and whales, was less a part of it than I thought it would be.

There were some chase scenes, but they did a good job of cutting away before the bad parts. There were three little girls in our very small audience - all with different families. They were approximately ages 12, 7, and 4. They all made it through just fine. The middle girl asked questions along the way, but never seemed disturbed. I never heard a peep from the little one.

There is a sad part when the polar bear dad who has searched and searched for food just finally has to give it up. It shows him laying down to die. There are about three attack scenes, but they are not gross. The poor polar bear dad tries his best to attack a walrus in the end to get food, but he is not strong enough to fight for very long. A shark jumps up and grabs a sea lion and comes down with it in slow motion. A couple of elephants are chase down by lions, and it does show them jumping on them and clawing at them, but then they run into the bush and you don't see anything else.

The scenery is simply stunning! I can't think of words that would be any better. The mountains, snow, waterfalls - just beautiful. The time lapse photography is awesome. The slow motion scenes are incredible. The clarity just makes you feel like you are there. I could smell the ocean when they were showing the whales. It was either my Disney influence coming through, because smells are such an integral part of Disney experiences like this, or they really did have some kind of smell pouring into the theater during that time!

I would recommend it for all adults, without a doubt. I think kids from about third-grade up would do fine. Smaller ones might get a little restless at times, but as long as they have food, drinks, and an opportunity to get up if they need to, I would say go ahead and take them. They won't understand it all, but what better way to say they learned about the 'circle of life' and about how animals interact with one another in nature than from Disney. They're going to see it eventually, so I'd like to say that they saw it first from a Disney film.

This is only my opinion. Everyone has different views of shows like this. Some parts were a little difficult to watch, but it only lasted a few seconds in the whole scheme of things. The scenery is well worth seeing. So, so beautiful!

I enjoyed seeing it, and I am thankful that I have such a thoughtful son to think of doing this nice thing for me at the end of such a tough week. I think I will keep him.

Of course, I don't really have a choice but to keep him. He doesn't seem like he is in any hurry to leave home. Some excuse about having home-cooked meals and free room and board, I think he said.;) He's building up his personal training business, which is something he loves doing. He's going to be saving money for the next year or two so that when he does move out, he can put a good down payment on a house. Since he and Kristi broke up in the fall, he's just dated around, but he hasn't come across anyone that he's been particularly interested in for a long term relationship again. He's a good guy, and I know God will send along a sweet girl for him in time. Hopefully, whoever he ends up with will be able to tolerate our Disney fun, and she'll also let him come back and take his dear old mom to the movies every so often. :)

Awww, MeMom, I hope Connor stays as thoughtful as your son! What's your secret formula?

I am so on the fence about Earth -- I was almost for sure going to take the kids tomorrow, but as I sat reading your description of the polar bear dad, I started tearing up -- I don't know if I can do it. Too bad I can't fast forward in the movie theater.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the movie! There really aren't enough, or adequate, adjectives to describe the scenes! Like you, I thought the film would follow the three animal families more closely as that's how it's been advertised, but I'm not complaining! They really did a wonderful job IMO and I'll definitely be getting the DVD.

I have no secret formula. I am just really, really blessed. Trent has always been an affectionate guy, even in front of his friends. All through middle and high school, when all the guys were embarrassed to have their moms talking to them, he would fuss at them and tell them to kiss their mommas! He was a leader all through the years in basketball, soccer, and student activities of every kind, so I guess he felt he should be a leader in getting the guys to love on their moms, too! The other moms in the concession stand and at ball games always told me they wished they could take him home with them! He has just always had an easy-going way with people and a natural charm. Girls like him, guys like him, dads like him, moms like him...it's all him, though. It's nothing I've done, because I'm the opposite of him. I'm shy and uncomfortable in a crowd, and he's the life and laughter of the party.

Drew is just the opposite. He'll hit on me as he walks by, and that is his way of acknowledging his affection toward me. I guilt him into a hug every so often, but he would never do it in front of his friends, I can assure you!

I vote to go see Earth! You know the kids are going to see this kind of thing, and who better to see it from than Disney? It is done in a very tender and discrete way. The polar bear dad's fight was the saddest part, but it was not terrible and it was a very short part - just a minute or two. The journey itself was shown for a few minutes, but even that was not long. I'd rather learn and understand about that part of nature and life from a Disney film than from any other.

Yeah, I thought it would be strictly focusing on their journeys, but the way it was interspersed with so many other things made it a liitle different than I thought it would be.

They advertised the Ocean one coming out on Earth Day 2010. The clips they showed from that were equally as amazing.

That's great that you got to see your girls, even for a few minutes! What an awesome surprise.

I hope your students did well with their testing. I hate the whole idea of standardized testing. Last year, for my english class, my argument and research papers were about the MCAS testing (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) that we have here -- students have to take it starting in 4th grade, I think, and in 2003, it became mandatory that high school students pass it in order to graduate. They give a lot of chances to pass, sure, but it bothers me that graduating on time basically rides on one test, that teachers now have to teach TO the test, and that students are being assessed by how well they do on that one test. :confused3 I'm not even a teacher or a parent and it bothers me!

With that said, I'm going to be better at keeping up and commenting -- I'm coming up on the last few weeks of school! Then I'm going out to Ohio (and maybe -- still up in the air b/c I'm not the one driving the whole time and I'm not sure where we'll be stopping along the way) -- meeting DisKate! Even if I don't then, we've been tossing around the idea of meeting up at some point and I'm wicked excited about the idea. I'm excited for the whole summer. Just working and not doing schoolwork around it is going to be awesome. :goodvibes

I am so on the fence about Earth -- I was almost for sure going to take the kids tomorrow, but as I sat reading your description of the polar bear dad, I started tearing up -- I don't know if I can do it.

Me too! I do not handle that kind of thing very well at all. Animal movies make me cry, and if there's ever a dog in any movie, I always have to make sure that nothing ever happens to it. I read "Marley and Me" and I cried so hard at the end, and at some other parts in it. I won't see the movie, though, because that will absolutely kill me. My b/f does not understand why I can read the book and not see the movie. Writing it out makes me wonder why, too, but it makes perfect sense in my head :rotfl:

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend, MeMom!

:lmao:Sorry! I wish I did and I wish every woman with children could be a SAHM. It has been a major financial challenge, but the greatest blessing imaginable.:cloud9: I'll keep my eye out for a nice 50 something fella though!:lovestruc

So glad you enjoyed the movie. It was all amazing, but the time lapses were soooooo cool!!

I'm glad you are at a point with school that you'll have some more free time. It'll be good to just work and play this summer and not have reports and projects hanging over your head.

I have heard that Marley and Me was so, so sad. That's one I doubt I will ever watch. The Earth movie did a good job off just suggesting what the ending would be, but then it whisked away to something else before the viewer had time to get too deep into the trauma of the loss.

'Teaching to the test' has become the catch phrase, and there is a reason for it. That's exactly what we have to do. We have a book that tell's what will be covered, and we spend the year introducing and repeating those skills. There's no room for creativity.

I hope you get to meet DisKate! We'll look forward to hearing about your summer travels. I was trying to think of something fun for us to do between now and Disney. Jill and the girls are going to come up here for a couple of days during our Vacation Bible School week, but we won't be able to do much, since I've got to teach summer school every day until lunch time. I was thinking of going up to check out Beech Bend Park in Kentucky, because I've heard how neat that is now.

I have that one on request right now. I would love her to work at Disney. She says she will and I qute here, "be a dr. to animals, but noe the cows." I guess working with cows just doesn't mooooooove her, huh?
You knew I had to do that, right?

One of my teacher friends, the one who is villain crazy, has a twelve year old daughter who is all into animals. I keep suggesting she can go to work at Animal Kingdom someday. She likes that idea!

I appreciate the DIS, too. It's full of new information and ideas, fun trips to read about, and great pictures. You can socialize, sort of, with people who also love Disney things. It's a nice escape from real life - a good place to forget you worries and focus on fun things.

Me, too, but the younger generation seems to want to work. My older teacher friends who have to work are all envious of the younger girls who get to stay home if they want to, but the younger girls seem to be anxious to go out and work. I think a 2-3 day a week job would be a happy medium. You could get out in the world some, but get to stay home with your kids some, too, and both would stay good.

Let me know about the 50+ fella when you find him. Make sure he's tall, since I'm 5'8', and be sure he likes to eat. Think Paula Deen with a little less southern accent and a lot less desire to be in front of a camera.

Oh, and a LOT less money!
But I can cook. :)

The time lapse photography was amazing and beautiful!

It is time for us to make Advanced Dining Reservations, friends!

Jill is calling this morning to try to get the following:

Saturday, 25th, arrival day, Crystal Palace This was a hit with us last year on arrival day. We're going to try to get a time right after the afternoon parade.

Tuesday, 28th, the day Trent, Jarvis, and maybe Drew arrive Teppan Edo It looks interesting.

Thursday, 30th, Four Parks in One Day Cape May Buffet for brunch after riding Soarin', and then Hollywood & Vine with the Fantasmic Dinner Package so we can be assured of getting into Fantasmic that night

Saturday, 1st, Whispering Canyon Cafe This is the one the guys are all looking forward to the most.

That gives us two we've already done and three we haven't. Jill, John, and Brooklynn have done the H&V breakfast, but not dinner. None of us have been to Cape May or Teppan Edo. Crystal Palace and Whispering Canyon are repeats.

We'll see what she ends up with in a few hours.

Thank you for the Happy Baby Due Date wishes everyone!

MeMom, our friends always go to Teppan Edo - they love it - its a HUGE hit with them. We went to a similar restaurant in London for my hubby's 30th in March and the husband (who is a total Disney NUT!) kept comparing it to Teppan Edo. Oh they do that at Disney. :cool1: Oh we didn't get that at Disney :sad2: Oh but we got that at Disney! :thumbsup2
You get the picture!!!

Can't wait to hear what you end up with!

And the ADR's are made!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I was up at 5:50 feeding Isabella with my phone right there. I started dialing at 5:58 and after 4 "we're not open yet" messages got the pixie dust sound and "Thank you for calling Disney Dining" I was prepared to be on hold for a while, but was very pleasantly surprised when CM Lori picked up as soon as I went through all the prompts. We started with the Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic package since I was most concerned about getting it. She had one for 4:00 but then I explained the plan of hitting all four parks on Mom's birthday and wnating to see Jammin Jungle Parade so she got us the latest seating the package has available which is 5:00. So we'll be running from AK to the bus and praying for a bus to come quickly. We finished making the rest of our reservations and after taking the survey I was off the phone at 6:15!

Here are our official ADR's

Saturday, 25th, arrival day, Crystal Palace at 4:30

Tuesday, 28th, the day Trent, Jarvis, and maybe Drew arrive Teppan Edo at 5:00

Thursday, 30th, Four Parks in One Day Cape May Buffet at 10:05 and then Hollywood & Vine with the Fantasmic Dinner Package at 5:00

Saturday, 1st, Whispering Canyon Cafe at 2:15

Now that the ADR's are made we are only 90 days out so let's dance!

Oh, I know the kids can handle it -- they would love the film -- I just don't know about me. It makes me so sad to even think about the polar bear daddy trying to feed his family and dying in the process -- knowing it really happened makes it worse. :sad1:

And the ADR's are made!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

:banana::cool1::banana::cool1::banana::cool1:

Hurray!!! :woohoo: Those are great ADRs! Doesn't it seem more real now that those are in place! I was in such a good mood after we made ours!

Yaaaaa, it is so nerve-wracking to wait till 90 days out for your adr's. You hope and hope you can get what you need so as to remain on your schedule! :cool1:Whaaa hooooo! I would continue calling if you don't like your 5 pm slot for H and V. They wait till they fill all of the earlier spots and sometimes they add some later ones. But 5 pm sounds good though~

So on Monday, its only 35 more days of school (not including weekends!). I had a wonderful year though...I am actually going to miss all of them! :lovestruc

Great news about your ADRs! It is almost time for ours. We had dinner last night with our newbie friends to decide on the restaurants. In the end, it was "Whatever you decide, we're fine with it. You're the experts!"

No pressure, no pressure at all.

Congratulations on the ADR's. Now you can rest a little easier about that and start worrying about something else. At least that is what I do. Sounds like a great plan to do 4 parks in one day. I might have to convince DH to try it after I hear how your experience turns out.

Congratulations on the ADR's! Good luck with doing all 4 parks in one day! My cousin is on his way home from FLA today and they did Disney on Monday. Originally they were only supposed to do MK, but when they got there they decided to upgrade to PH's and ended up doing all 4 in one day....they haven't been in about 5 years so they really killed themselves doing it!

Sorry. I don't know what a Charlotte Mommy is???:confused3 I'm in NC and I'm a mommy. Does that count?:lmao::lmao::lmao:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: It's a local Mom's "club" type thing. There's actually a network (The Mommies Network) and they have online communities all over the country. They have playdates, Mom's Night Out and other activities for local Moms to meet other Moms. They also have forums. It's like the DIS...only for Mommies! LOL
