A trip to WDW w/NO kids? Hubba Hubba! Wink Wink! UPDATE: EXTRA, EXTRA!!! Pg 158

 I am sooooooo sorry about Cole. How terrible!!!:grouphug: I can't believe they didn't call you, I would have been so upset. I am glad you got closure but so sad it had to be in this way.
Having gone through this myself recently I completely understand how hard it is to loose a pet and I am so sorry for you!:guilty:
Take care of yourself.
Lesley

That is a shame. Was the dog microchipped? If so, the pound should have scanned Coal and called your vet about finding it. That is really sad, I am sorry for your loss. I know how sad it can be to quickly lose a dog and never be able to say good-bye. The silver lining is that you at least know what happened.

thank you

:sad2: he wasn't microchipped. But I don't think they would have checked (or if they have a scanner to check--I'm betting they don't! :headache: )
I went over there yesterday after work, as the workers were all leaving. I didn't care, I stopped them in the parking lot and told them my story. They asked how old he was. (5 by the way) Then one of them gave me some bull about they had a chihuahua that was badly hurt and put him to sleep last week, "but he was a senior" I said, "NO, that was MY DOG, and he was OBVIOUSLY NOT A SENIOR!" Someone called me this morning (I had left an angry/upset msg on the machine there before I went over there) and as it turns out, they didn't even CHECK the lost pet reports!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry girl

thanks

sorry to hear that. :grouphug:

thank you

Im SO sorry for your loss Cheri    I hope when you recover that you are able to stick it to that pound. I would be infuriated at how the handled that situation (as I know you are). I hope that your pain is mended quickly and that life gets back to a new "normal" for you. I know the pain of the loss will never go away but it will get easier with time. If you need anything you know how to reach me

thanks again!

yes, I'm writing the commissioner about this!! And if we get another dog it will be from a rescue group---not those butt holes!!!! *Not to mention I'd be concerned they'd be giving me some sweet little family's dog and the family would go there the next day and their baby would not be there---then the stupid people would probably tell them they never saw their dog. Seems to me they don't operate to find animals' original owners, they just try to get them adopted by anyone, or put them to sleep.

Cheri
I'm so sorry about Coal. I think it is awful the way the pound handled it.:sad2: I hope you are able to find out more details of what happened. Give Merlin some extra hugs from my family. I'm sure he's grieving also.

I did(see all bolded text above...and some more below)...but it just added to my anger. I still want to talk to the lady---I called her 3 times yesterday and left a message the 2nd time and she hasn't called me back! What's up with that?! I wonder Did she not feel she handled the situation well and feels bad?

Cheri,

I'm so sorry for your families loss. Our pets are like our children so I understand.

Michele

thank you!

thank you!

And :headache: on the pound

thanks...and yes, BIG OLE :headache:   on the pound!

Sorry to hear about your baby. If your other dog is not microchipped...take him to the vet now. It is actually really cheap to do. I had it done when we had Rusty fixed...it was only like $30-$40. and painless for them. Rusty winced for a second but then it was done. Of course that was also the weekend I was chasing him in the field...i thought for sure he was going to be hit by a car and I would have had the microchipping done for nothing...but it all worked out.

::yes:: I plan on it. Wow, that is not a bad price at all--I thought it was more than that. I guess the price has gone down since it's become more popular.

glad he didn't get hit!

so sorry to hear about your doggy,

i dont understand why that lady did not take it to the vet right away,

here is a hug to get you guys through this time,

our thoughts are with you.
:grouphug:

thanks!

She apparently called the pound on Monday, April 28th. They had gone missing late evening of Wednesday the 23rd---I don't know when she found them (or if they just showed up at her house) but I assume she was hoping whatever was wrong with Coal was temporary/would heal, and waited over the weekend to see. Since the pound isn't open on Sunday I guess that is why she called Monday. I think Mike went over there the very next day and they still said they hadn't seen him!!

I also just really wish I could talk to that lady.

I am...very, especially after finding out they didn't even look through the lost dog reports. They said "things get hectic around here and we don't always have time" But you had time to put my baby to sleep! The thing I was thinking about yesterday (and I know I shouldn't be because it only makes me cry more) was that he was probably laying there wondering who those people were, and where his mommy and daddy were. :sad1:
I just hope they were there comforting him and not just injecting him and walking away. I would really hope they wouldn't be that cold.

Lesley, a big  to you. I know that you will always love Loomis like we love Coal. They will both be missed dearly. Maybe they will make friends in doggie heaven.

I'm so sorry to hear about Cole, Cher. Let us know what the rest of the story is. Many hugs

thank you. So I've kinda been telling this progressively through these replies. So the last piece is that we were hoping we could find out where his body was so we can give him a proper burial or have him cremated. It turns out they have someone pick the pets up every couple days and bring them to a landfill in Independence, Louisiana, about 16 miles from here. Mike wants to at least TRY and obtain his body. I told him, do you really want to see his body? I don't think I could do it. I don't think he could get him anyway. But if he could get him and have him cremated, I would keep an urn for him. Before I had pets I used to think people were crazy for doing that. I don't know if I would have. But In this odd case, since I don't think I could see his body at this point in order to properly bury him, I'd have him cremated and have a little "ceremony" of our own

Am I missing anything? Did I answer all questions? When I hear from the nice woman who found my baby, I will let y'all know. Oh, I guess y'all might like to know if we're getting a new dog. I told Mike I think Merlin needs a new pal. Mike says he's not sure. I think he just wants to wait a bit. Merlin was SO depressed yesterday--he hasn't been eating too much. When I came home, I was crying, I picked him up and he licked my tears. He could feel my sadness. Dogs are so smart and I think he just knows Coal is gone for good. He was laying there on the couch last night on this one pillow, and kept sniffing it. He would not move from that spot--not even when I called him to sit in my lap. That is very unlike him so I know he was really sad and he smelled Coal's scent on that pillow. We're taking him to Texas with us this weekend, and he will have a friend (pom) to hang out with--Mike's parents' dog, Boomer. I am hoping getting him away from home a while will help the healing process for him, too.

Since there's that image limit...I've waited to do this:

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: for ALL OF YOU!!!! ( in the previous post and this post!!! ) Thank you for your kind words and continued support. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the advice, concerns, hugs, and everything!

I don't blame you for not wanting to get a dog from that pound for fear of it being some owners dog that is looking for it. Now I understand why the no kill shelters go to the local pounds and pick up the animals that they can help. It's good that there's places like that around but it's sad that they can't take all of them. I could NEVER work for such a heartless place as a pound.

Oh Cheri, I have tears in my eyes just reading that about Merlin licking the tears off your face. Many a time my dogs have done that for me. Our pets really can sense our pain and I'm sure you are right that he is grieving as well. I hope your trip to TX is great for all 3 of you and that Mike will come around to the idea of getting another dog as a pal for Merlin. No one can replace Coal but a new family member will help y'all be able to move on and make new memories.

Oh, and I also think that if Mike does go and find Coal's body that y'all having your own little ceremony for him and having an urn for him is a great idea. This whole ordeal has been seems like such a whirlwind so the further closer I'm sure would put you all at a little more ease.

This place sounds like an animal slaughter house disguised as an animal shelter. The fact that the place does not even know how to tell the age of an animal shows the inexperience of the employees. It seems like the only job requirement at that place is knowing how to put down animals. Don't you think they should have a log book that shows which animals were put down at which time and date so that owners can come in and tell them it was their dog? I guess the reason they don't have that is because they are not legit and being legit would (God forbid) make them liable for killing animals. Did Michael Vick work at this place in the past ??

Hopefully you can find Coal's body so that you can have some closure. :sad1:

AlienBrain~Good one on the Michael Vick thing. Sounds like that's the kind of place he would have a hand in running for sure!

You're right! I think the "senior" thing was just a cop-out because that lady didn't want to tell me the truth, which was that they NEVER even LOOKED at those forms to see if he belonged to someone. :sad2:

"Apparently" they usually do. But the woman that called me this morning had no RECORD of that. "We didn't have a black chihuahua" I told her "yes you did!!!" And she had to go talk to someone "in the back" to find out. I was put on hold for several minutes. The commissioner will for SURE hear about that!!!!!!!!!! I was apalled they had no record about my baby being put to sleep!! It almost makes me want to go in there and get all the lost pet reports off the wall, call everyone and tell them what a crock of you-know-what this place is, and that if they want to take every measure to find their dogs they will need to visit the ASPCA every single DAY---pound on the door at 8 am (when the people first get there to "clean" but aren't "open" yet) and demand to see all the dogs (or cats) in the place to find out if their pet is there. Could you imagine what a buzz that would cause? I wonder if I can get an article in the paper about what a crock that place is, so people that find animals will take other actions before taking found pets there (such as putting up Found Pet signs, and putting a free Found Pet ad in the local paper) Maybe I could make a difference for other people who lose their pets! :goodvibes

Cher I am so sorry to hear about your baby!!!! I am thinking about ya'll!:grouphug:

thank you!

UPDATE: Just talked to someone at the landfill. Unfortunately there's no way we can get Coal's body. :sad2: I had figured that much. I know that the body is not what REALLY matters though, we'll have to bury something else of his, and have another type of memorial keepsake to keep in our house, even if it's a special photo frame. My sister is doing a shadow box for her cat, Bootsie, so maybe we can do something like that and put Coal's things in it.

Cheri,

I am so sorry to hear about everything that happened with Cole :sad2: What a total bunch of total jerks :headache: I just want to you know that I will be thinking of you and your hubby and Merlin.

Betsy

Cheri I am so sorry to hear what happened to your little furbaby!!! This is devastating! Please know that my thoughts and hugs are with you and your hubby! SO SORRY!!!!

 thanks...I know exactly what you mean

Cheri I am so sorry to hear what happened to your little furbaby!!! This is devastating! Please know that my thoughts and hugs are with you and your hubby! SO SORRY!!!!

 thanks! I know, the way the ASPCA handled it still riles me up! One of my friends hold a political office here in my area (just a small one, responsible for campaigning and things like that) so he said he's going to write a letter to so-n-so...named a bunch of people and we'll see what happens with that.

Cher - I'm sorry for what you are going through. It's terrible to think that an organization that is supposed to help animals may be mistreating someone's pet. I could understand if he was seriously ill, in pain and not going to make it, but considering all the things you have said about the lack of records, being given the run around and general bs stories, I don't think these people know their butt from a hole in the ground.

My last pet died in a house fire. I wanted to see him and no one would let me (I was very pregnant at the time). Years later, I talked to someone about it and the picture they painted was not as pretty as the story told to me at the time of the fire. So in my opinion, it is better to remember Coal as he was and make your own "special memorial".

I wish you all the luck in finding a new friend Merlin.

thanks. I agree that they don't know their butt from a hole in the ground!

How sad! I guess you are right though. I will let y'all know what we decide to do for him.

Well we made it to The Woodlands last night about 1 am. I slept in the car a little bit. It was not too bad. Mike's mom was really surprised and excited. I've been taking a few pictures, and I will post some when we get home. Tonight we're going to a comedy club to see Tom Simmons in Houston (about 40 min drive). I've never seen him but he's been on Comedy Central before, according to his website. I'm excited b/c I just LOVE stand-up comedy!!!! I'll be taking my camera so hopefully can get some good pics...and I hope he's REALLY funny.
Tomorrow night we're playing Texas Hold 'Em poker (we all LOVE hold 'em) I will take pics then too. I haven't played in a while so I hope I win!

No luck with SR surveys today. I haven't had too much of a chance to really sit down a while and try and try. But when I have tried, no luck.

Well that's my little update on the trip. "See" y'all later! :wave2:

Well, I've got some news on Coal. Definite closure, but of course not happy news.

Someone was indeed taking care of them, but Coal was hurt. His back legs from what I understand. He may have been hit by a car. :sad1: The woman was feeding them. When Coal didn't get better, she called the pound and told them she had a hurt animal. Merlin ran off and that must be when he came home to us. Soon after that, the pound came to get Coal. They should have called me! Why didn't they call me?!!! :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:
She saw the signs our friend put up at the college nearby, which he had added his phone # to as well. She immediately called the pound and they said they already put him to sleep. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:
So 3 numbers were on there, and she decided to call our friend today. He didn't answer so she left a message, and he called her back with no answer. He called me and gave me her # and I tried calling her with no answer. Soon she called my friend and told him the story. I want to talk to her myself tonight. I want to understand what happened...I'm confused as to the timeline, and I am really super angry about the pound. Apparently they don't pay any attention to the missing pet reports that people file, so what's the point? We called over the weekend when we were away and they had said they hadn't seen him. So I need to find out when they got him in there. Of course the imbiciles probably won't know what day it was. :sad2: :sad1:

We will probably look into getting another dog, I just don't know when and what kind we will get. I still haven't been able to get in touch with Mike to tell him. He's at work, and I'm really nervous about telling him. I think deep in our hearts we both knew though....

I'm gonna be okay though.

Honey, I'm so sorry!

I can't believe the BS this place is doing to you. They definitely need to have someone stick it to them. I think you would be handling it the right way if you decided to put it in your local newspaper.
