Short - Sweet Trip Report:
Just got back last Friday from a 5-day Grand Villa stay at OKW! Some Bullets:
Stayed the first night at the Nick Studio hotel. It was fantastic - if you like 14,000 kids under age 10 all yelling at the same time! Many Florida folks there - just for the weekend! Nice place though!
Got Extra lucky on weather - in the 6 day stay we got 14 hours of rain (mostly over night).
Lastly, you should have seen everyones eyes when we walked in to the GV - that was one of the high-points of the trip!
Three parks (MK, AK and MGM) + one Water Park (BB).
THE LESSON
Let me explain the math behind a mid-september stay.
Everest 3 times in 40 minutes
+ Space Mtn 2 times in 15 minutes
+ Tower of Terror in 3 minutes
Hello!
OK, here is the Rant.
We had 8 people and about 15 bags of luggage and food. I checked in early (5:00 AM) and luckily they had a room ready for us! The plan was to go to MK so - we drove two cars over and were going to ask the Bell Staff to take the bags to the room.
At 9:00 AM we parked in the "Car" aisle right in front of Conch Flats Check In. I got out and a young CM came over and said "You cant park there - I have a bus coming!".
Me: "It says Cars - I have done this before..."
CM: "Well, you cant now - I have a bus coming and you have to move the cars now!"
Me: "Well, what can we do with the bags? - What do you want me to do?"
CM: "Not sure - but - I have to have you move so we can get this bus in!"
Well, my mouth fell open - and I wanted to argue longer, but, realized I was going nowhere! I looked at her with a confused
and she walked away and threw her hands up. NOTE: Perhaps I was not as polite as suggested in the above text - but - I did not raise my voice - I was just looking at her confused!
In the end, every time I passed Conch Flats I looked for cars in the drop off aisle and never saw any! It seems that OKW has ditched the drive-up bag drop off to accommodate DME. So, I guess curb side bag drop off is now history!
Ok, no problem for us. I had my 16 year old son and he and I lugged up most of the stuff. And, I will acknowledge the DME is fantastic for those that fly. I would also guess that many do not take advantage of the curb side drop-off at OKW.
But, what about a 60 something couple? How well does this work for them?
I guess I was miffed at:
1) The CM gave me no alternatives - did not figure out a way to work with me. How about a "Can you park over there and we will collect the bags from you!" Which would have recieved a "Great idea - thanks!" from me. A little creative thinking go's a long way!
2) No advanced notice - that I am aware of - was circulated. The stupid sign still says Car Baggage Drop-Off! Maybe a notice was sent - but - I missed it.
3) This will be a disadvantage to many!
I will be sending a note to DVC. But, if that is your biggest problem - it had to be a great trip!
