A Trail of Tears from Louisiana to WDW & Back Again! New PTR Link 8/15

Ok, so when I left off, we had just crossed into Florida & Shelby was screaming & crying. By this time it was 11 pm. I had lost my 3G in Mississippi & finally got it back once we were into Alabama. I felt so lost without my phone!!! About 45 mins into Florida, Shelby went to sleep. All I could say was "Thank you God!" Only to hear screaming 15 mins later! I kept praying "Please God, let my baby fall asleep, please!" Her eyes were so heavy & she just was not giving it up! At about 1:30 am, silence!

At around 2 am, we got into the Eastern Time Zone & I have never been more happy to have a time change! I was sooooo ready to be at Disney!!! About 45 mins later, Shelby dozed back off. And I was praying that this time it was for good! I should have known better, 35 mins later, screams again. We tried the dvd player, snacks, juice, milk, you name it. So I told Ben as soon as we came across another rest area, I needed to potty & Shelby could probably use a diaper change. So at 4 am, we stop at a rest area. I go potty & Ben digs out the Benadryl, hoping that it would kick in & help her sleep the rest of the drive, & the diapers & wipes. I get back from using the potty & I realize, she is burning up with fever!!!! No wonder why she has been screaming. I felt like the world's worst mommy! I never even thought to check to see if she had fever & I know her molars are coming in. So along with the Benadryl, she got Tylenol. After she was all "doped up" we hit I-75 & I started to get excited! So close, yet so far away! And what do we get? Rain!!! Again, I started praying for the rain to stay right where it was & not to follow us to Disney! About 4:30 thanks to her screams, Koby & Brady woke up & I decided I was starving! So we hit up McDonalds for some breakfast (it was 5:30 am FL time). I was hoping that maybe some food would chill her out & bring back my happy baby girl. No such luck. Her brothers were wonderful with her, trying anything & everything to make her happy & stop crying. Shared their toys, snacks, you name it! At 6 am we got on the Orlando Turnpike & I was bouncing in my seat. (I had no idea how far away I really was!) Then I see the 1st sign, which I did not get a pic of, but it said Disney World 25 miles. Let's just say that is the longest 25 miles of my life!!!
Some of the road signs:

And at 6:41 (7:41 EST) I saw the most beautiful thing in the whole entire world (besides my kids:lmao:)

Now those of you who have read my PTR, know how worried I was about not seeing that sign. Let's just say, when we made that curve & I saw it. I was screaming hysterically, crying, yelling, snapping pics. Ben & the boys thought I was crazy! Now, I don't remember what I said, but I was told I said "WE ARE HERE! OH MY GOD WE ARE HERE! I AM AT DISNEY WORLD! WE ARE REALLY HERE! IT'S THE SIGN! PRINCESS, MAMA BROUGHT YOU TO DISNEY WORLD BABY GIRL!" Like I said, no recollection of that at all.

Joining in! We just got back last night.... and also had a trail of tears through Louisiana! The traffic was terrible in LA on our way to WDW(June18th). Poor hubby was so frustrated! We live in TX so we had to drive all the way across LA. We are originally from Louisiana and just couldn't believe the traffic......from Lake Charles all the way to MS was bumper to bumper.

Your kiddos are adorable and I can't wait to see more pictures! Cinderella holding your baby just gave me goosebumps!! Beautiful!!

:welcome: Really you had bad traffic? We left the 18th also, and had no problems at all! Road way was all clear for us. What time did you leave?

Thank you! I adore that pic of Cinderella & Shelby!

WOO HOO! I'm so excited for your new ticker!! That's less than a year away! :woohoo:

Poor Shelby, I know she must have been miserable with that fever! Bless her little heart!

Yay! You made it!! I already knew you saw the sign because of FB, but I'm still sooo glad you got to see it! :yay:

I'm sorry I'm so late commenting, I read your first update yesterday and I fell asleep for like, 4 hours after work so I had basically no DIS time last night! Ugh! :sad2:

Poor Shelby, I remember reading your FB updates about her not sleeping and I wondered how you could deal with that! And how the boys could sleep through it! I'm sure it had to be confusing for her, wondering why she wasn't in her bed! So sweet of Koby to help her out like that, that is too adorable! :lovestruc

I'm so happy you have a new ticker :cool1: Now you can start planning again! I wish my DH would actually come out and say he wants to go to Disney every year! We've been doing it since 2008 but he always tries to talk me out of it! One day he needs to admit he loves it almost as much as I do! :rotfl:

Oh, that's ok! I am hoping to update every night, but don't hold me to that. Life gets pretty crazy around here. And I was going to do every night at 8 pm, but the boys are away at a birthday campout, Shelby is in bed already (She has been sleeping alot in her bed since we have been home), so I am enjoying a nice & much needed glass of wine!

Koby is Mother Hen to her. There is nothing & I mean nothing that boy doesn't do for her. He would fix bottles (when she was on them), change her diaper, change her clothes, feed her. You name it!

I was very shocked to hear that he wanted to go again, considering we had some VERY heated moments on this trip.

Well, when Ben said "I'd like to do this every year, I started figuring out today what days the boys had off of school & what weekends Ben had to to work (he works every 3rd weekend). Nothing is set in stone, but I was way too excited to not put a ticker up once we said those dates would be best. He is trying to play it off, saying "we will see when the time comes", but I'd bet my bottom dollar that those dates will stick:rotfl:

Just found your report. The Louisiana in the title caught my eye. We live in BR, LA. I have to go back and get caught up but I have to say I love the picture of your little one with Cinderella.

We left at about 11:30am. Took I10 to I12, thinking that would be better than 10 on through N.O. Traffic was just very heavy, and people didn't want to keep the left lane for passing......paw-paw'n in the left lane irritates the heck out of me! We stopped in De Funiak Springs, FL for the night at about 8pm or so.

:welcome: And thank you! I am wondering if I just got lucky with Cinderella with that picture & if she was sincere or if that is done with alot of babies/children. She sure seemed sincere at the time.

Oh that explains it. We left our house at 7:30 pm, so we got lucky. We took I-10 & bypassed the CBD by getting on I-610. I can not stand when there is someone paw paw'n in the left lane! Like I mentioned we drove straight through to Disney!

I feel your pain driving with a unhappy child is no fun! But Disney is fun happy kids or unhappy kids:)

So sorry for all the tears. We drive it too and it is a long drive. I thought title meant you cried the whole way home from sadness at leaving Disney ( I know I would be).

Hopefully flying works out better for next trip.

Well, there are more tears coming, some happy, some not. And I have a feeling there will be another drive next year, but we will break it up & stay overnight in FL somewhere.

Seeing that sign just makes everything ok doesn't it?:lovestruc

Poor Shelby, hopefully with the benadryl and tylenol things got much better for you! Can't wait to hear all about your first day!

Oh yes it does!!! And by that time, Shelby was not crying, so I was a REAL happy Mama!!!

I love that big purple sign.

My three year old started complaining about her throat hurting yesterday. Took her to the doctor and she has strep throat! She got a shot and seems perfectly fine. Only 4 days to go and she gets something crazy contagious!

Oh no!!!! I hope she feels better soon!!! My MIL had something like that happen when Ben was little & the dr gave her extra antibiotics, just in case the others felt bad too!

Oh man, I love that sign! :goodvibes

I am so excited for your new ticker! :cool1: Now after you're done with this TR you can start right into a new PTR! :lmao:
