A thought for the Day

Nice to see your good thoughts here, Deb and Saphire, please do stop by often. Great!!! :sunny:

Bring out the positive

On any given day, there are many more positive things that happen to you than there are negative things. Yet often it can seem very much to be the other way around.
Ironically, that's because the good and positive things are so common, so much a part of life, that you often fail to even notice them. In contrast, the negative, troubling things get your attention precisely because they are relatively unusual.

Unfortunately, by giving so much awareness and attention to the negative things, you also give them strength and support. Obviously that's not really what you want.

Instead of letting the small number of difficulties grab all your attention, work to become more aware of the overwhelmingly large number of good things. Challenge yourself to compile a list in your mind, as the day goes on, of at least 20 good, positive, valuable things that come your way.

Most people, when asked to make a list of their troubles, would quickly be able to name dozens of things. Yet when you start looking instead for your blessings, and keeping a mental record of them, what you discover will positively amaze and delight you.

Put a little effort into bringing out the positive, and it will bring out the best in you.

-- Ralph Marston

To accomplish great things,
We must not only act but also dream,
Not only plan but believe."

Never underestimate your power to change yourself. Never overestimate your power to change others.--Life's Little Instruction Book

If you are out to describe the truth, leave elegance to the tailor.

Albert Einstein

Our character is what we do when we think no one is looking.

-- H. Jackson Browne

Shine brighter

Today will come and go, no matter what you do.
As long as you're going to go through the day, make it count. Live this day for all it's worth. Reach a little higher, do a little more, be a little better, shine a little brighter.

You have what it takes to make a difference, in your world today. Seize the chance to do all you can. The things you do today, can have an impact far into the future.

The time will go by, no matter what you do. It is up to you, to make it count. Right in front of you, is a day full of promise, full of hope, full of opportunity. Make that hope your own. Make that opportunity your own. Take this day, and live like you mean it.

-- Ralph Marston

"Character is doing the right thing when nobody's looking. There are too many people who think that the only thing that's right is to get by, and the only thing that's wrong is to get caught."

J. C. Watts

Thanks, nativeTxn.......... I wish that every politician had this quote tattooed on his/her posterior;) ;) ;) ;) . In Washington, the "game" involves playing to the media and appeasing political forces............"DOING THE RIGHT THING" is seldom in the equation:( :( :( .......

There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle The other is as though everything is a miracle.

--Albert Einstein

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo daVinci,Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.

We know now that the soul is the body, and the body the soul. They tell us they are different because they want to persuade us that we can keep our souls if we let them make slaves of our bodies.

George Bernard Shaw

Beyond concern for self

When you put all your efforts into defending, promoting and advancing only your own self, what have you really achieved? The victory is hollow, meaningless and will not last, if it even can be considered a victory in the first place.
Either you can be focused and absorbed and centered on yourself, or you can achieve truly great things. There is no way to do both. For self absorption is nothing other than a blocking out of all the other more positive and more magnificent possibilities. When it's all about you, it's all very small and limited.

Yet when the concerns of the self fall away, an astounding amount of positive, productive energy is set free. To the extent that you can look and live beyond yourself, many great things are possible.

Go beyond yourself, and worry is replaced by compassion and caring, fear is supplanted by confidence, despair is overwhelmed by love. Live beyond the concerns of self, and be astounded at how many limitations are simply no longer there.

-- Ralph Marston

"People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your road doesn't mean they've gotten lost."

H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.

--Mother Teresa

We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasent facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.

John F. Kennedy

Shine your light

In the midday sun, a bright light will be barely noticed. Yet in the darkest night, even the smallest light can make an enormous difference. Similarly, in a dark and troubling situation, even a small positive action can have a tremendous impact.
The most profound opportunities come during times of difficulty, because it is at those difficult times that positive efforts have the greatest effect. Shine your light into the darkness, and no matter how modest that light may be, it will be noticed and appreciated.

When the situation deteriorates, when troubles and challenges and obstacles loom large, rather than lamenting your misfortune, look for ways to make a difference. At such times, you can wield an enormous amount of leverage by working to redirect negative momentum into positive energy. Shine your light of positive action in the darkness of a difficult situation. By so doing you'll create real and lasting value, and your modest efforts can make a major difference.

-- Ralph Marston

Be wary of people who tell you how honest they are.--Life's Little Instruction Book

Poetry, mythology, and religion represent the world as man would like to have it, while science represents the world as he gradually comes to discover it.
