A thought for the Day

Don't allow self-pity. The moment this emotion
strikes, do something nice for someone less fortunate than you.--Life's Little Instruction Book

If everybody was satisfied with himself there would be no heroes.
Mark Twain

Every child is an artist. The problem is how to
remain an artist when you grow up.

--Picasso

To be an artist is to be tuned in to and turned toward
the new, saying yes to life in all its diversity and
richness. Healthy children face life with openness
and creativity. They make things, play make-
believe, and create a world of beauty and delight.

We are still children if we dare to welcome the
creative force within us and relate it back to the
spontaneity and newness of our childhood. There
may be shadows and even darkness to overcome,
but if we are brave we can rediscover that childlike
energy and freshness.

Picasso went on creating for over ninety years. He
kept the child alive in himself for our delight. Even
if we do not have his talent, we can be inspired by
his example--to bring to life the creative child in us
again.

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction.

We have our brush and colors--paint Paradise and
in we go.

--Nikos Kazantzakis

We find in our experiences and in our daily reveries
just what we anticipate. If we greet the day wearing
a smile, confident that we are needed and able to
make a contribution, we’ll discover that the day
holds great promise. What we need to understand is
that every day holds just as much promise as we’re
capable of expecting. We carry within ourselves the
image of the picture we’re creating.

Since the choice to find happiness rather than
sorrow and regret is our own, why does the latter
even attract us? For no other reason than we fail to
believe that we’re deserving of happiness. We know
our own shortcomings; we’re aware of the details in
our lives for which we feel shame. We think only
the pure of heart deserve happiness. But we’re
human. And this means mistakes are normal and
expected. With wisdom comes full understanding of
this fact. In the meantime, we can trust that
happiness is our birthright. All that’s requested is
our belief in it.

Happiness attracts itself.

Oh the heart is a free and a fetterless thing,—

Laugh a lot. A good sense of humor cures almost all of life's ills.--Life's Little Instruction Book

Spending your thoughts

To remove a problem from your life, first remove it from your mind. Rather than spending your thoughts on those things you don't want, apply those thoughts toward your positive possibilities.
Instead of looking for things to worry about in a particular situation, look for ways to make a positive difference. What you focus upon has a way of becoming real, for your thoughts are what guide your actions.

You would not choose to spend a lot of your hard earned money on something you did not want, for that would not make sense. And in the same way it does not make sense to spend your powerful, influential thoughts on those things you do not want.

See clearly what is there in front of you, and think of it in terms of the positive possibilities. There is a positive, forward-looking response to even the most negative and difficult situation.

Your thoughts can give power and life to what you don't want, or to what you know is best and most positive. You can choose whatever you prefer by the thoughts you choose to keep in mind.

-- Ralph Marston

Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.
Chief Seattle

Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice. Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love.

--Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

The idea of God, infinity, or spirit stands for the possible attempt at an impossible conception.

Edgar Allan Poe

Good one, MOM:D

Since the masses of the people are inconstant, full of unruly desires, passionate and reckless of consequence, they must be filled with fears to keep them in order. The ancients did well, therefore, to invent gods, and the belief in punishment after death.

Polybius

The first question I ask myself when something doesn't seem to be beautiful is why do I think it's not beautiful. And very shortly you discover that there is no reason.

- John Cage

When the masses become better informed about science, they will feel less need for help form supernatural Higher Powers. The need for religion will end when man becomes sensible enough to govern himself.

Francisco Ferrer

Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use [and] nothing is less important than which fork you use.

-- Emily Post,

Time to live

As you go through your life, take the time to live. Take time to appreciate and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you, to make a difference, to do something that you truly care about.
Take the time to know your passion, to follow your purpose, to do something more than simply get through the day. Take time to lift up another, to really listen, to truly care.

Take time to seek out the real joys of being alive and aware, of being a unique person with a special purpose. Take time to genuinely give of yourself, for that is the best gift you can offer.

The time you take to really live is time you will always treasure, and creates value that will always stay with you. The more often you remember what a special and irreplaceable gift it is to be alive, the more you'll have to offer to the lives of those around you.

This very day is your time to live, and it is here for you to experience. Whatever your situation, whatever challenges you face, however busy your schedule may be, there is always so much value in taking the time to really live.

-- Ralph Marston
