I posted on the 'What Are You Up To This Weekend?' that my DH and DD both work for a US bank on the brink of going bust with the likelihood of no jobs on Monday. Anyway, I got some lovely unexpected responses and I wanted to reply without turning the the 'WAYUTTW' thread into Karen's pity party...

Plus I just wanted to quickly tell you all that news seems more optimistic this morning as it seems the big, evil, monster bank is splitting into two parts (profitable/unprofitable) and as DH & DD are both in the profitable part (hurrah!) they should be OK! So fingers crossed and all that...

But most of all, thank you for thinking of us, you lovely bunch of people - I truly appreciate it...

I saw the news last night and wondered if it was that group Sophie and Richard work for! Having a husband that works in the financial world I know what its like to be waiting for that dreaded news

I try not to watch the news at the minute as its all doom and gloom, so i have not seen the this story. I really hope everything works out for them both! I will keep my fingers crossed for them.
My brother lost his job on new years eve. He worked for Zavvi and unfortunately they went into administration he's finding it hard to find much at the minute.

Good news Karen, I'm glad Richard and Sophie are okay I didn't see your post - it's been a busy few days here for very similar reasons - luckily my Richard works for the profitable part of Bank of New York and has also survived a few turbulent few days. When I think a year ago my Richard worked for the not-so-good side of your Richard's bank - I wonder where we would be now.
Maybe, like you, we probably thought the wolf wouldn't get so close to the door - these times are getting tough for everybody. We have had good times and we knew it wouldn't last forever.

I'm so pleased to hear your family's jobs seem safe. DH works as an asset manager for HSBC and we had some scary moments too, but it seems okay now. Hope we all get through the turbulence okay.
