A terrorism question for you.

Of course I have a problem with it. What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? If the FBI followed the law, Bill Ayers would have been in jail. Instead, he is seen as an "upstanding college professor" teaching his special brand of radicalism. :sad2:

If the FBI had followed the law, then there would hve been a trial. You cannot count on a conviction.

Well there are 49 registered democrats, 49 registered republicans and 2 independents that clearly lean towards the democratic side. That is why I referred to it as semi-control, but Joe L(indy) did consider caucusing with the Republicans prior to this swearing in... which would have given republicans SEMI-control instead.

And 95 Republican filibusters.

As far as McCain voting 90% with his party, well it's his party affiliation, the way Senators generally vote WITH their constituency that gave him the job and PAYS him to make a decision.

Nooooooooo he's the MAVERICK! He's his own man! A MAVERICK! His party doesn't own him!!

Or do they...:scared:

Gotta love the MSM! The Obamas & the Ayers are MUCH more connected. Only the MSM aint reporting it ALL.

William Ayers is married to Bernardine Dohm (also a former Weatherman).

Bernadine Dohm was employed by the Law Offices of Sidley Austin. She worked in the same Chicago office as Michelle Obama & Barack Obama.:rolleyes1 AT THE SAME TIME. Just sayin!:rolleyes1

Michelle & Barack met each other while working at Sidley Austin.

Wasn't he eight years when Ayers did those things?

So?:confused3 That is the MOST ignorant thing Obama has ever said. If the MSM wasnt in the bag for him, they would of & SHOULD of been all over that quote.

How long is the 'Set Retention' for hating a Terrorist? 40 years? 50 years?
When your children grow up, is it ok by you if they sit with Bin Laden in his house?

Besides Obamas campaign isnt denying his & Ayers connections. They are now saying OBAMA DIDNT KNOW Ayers was a terrorist! Suprisngly yet again Obama has changed the story.:rolleyes1

Ignorance of Ayers?

Top Obama advisors tell CNN that, when they first met in the mid-1990s, Obama didn't know of Bill Ayers' radical past. It's the first time they've said that, as far as I know.

"In 1995, William Ayers held kind of a get-to-know you event at his place where he was introducing Barack Obama to the political culture there in Chicago when he was running for the State Senate for the first time. David Axelrod said that at that meeting Senator Obama was not aware of Ayers' radical background. Is that true?" CNN's John Roberts asked Robert Gibbs, who said it was true.

On one hand, there's nothing to contradict that line, and some plausibility. Ayers had faded from notoriety until, in an interview that -- through bizarre coincidence -- appeared in the September 11, 2001 New York Times, he spoke cavalierly about his bombings. He also had moved into a prominent civic role in Chicago for which it's hard to think of an easy parallel for somebody with that kind of past. He is, for whatever reason, kosher in Chicago. (An analogy would be the Mayor of Phoenix having G. Gordon Liddy on an advisory board, say.)

On the other hand, Obama's not that young. He started at Columbia University, for instance, in 1981, when their names were certainly in the New York tabloids, which haved always loved the story of upper-middle-class radical cop killers. Kathy Boudin's role in a botched, fatal 1981 Brinks roberry was huge news. Bernardine Dohrn was imprisoned in 1982 for refusing to testify against fellow Weather Underground members. And Ayers' past was hardly a secret in Chicago, where he was regularly quoted as an ex-radical and ex-fugitive.

So?:confused3 That is the MOST ignorant thing Obama has ever said.

I think it was a smart thing to say. It makes the association silly. Also, Ignorance means lack of knowledge, but I know what you meant. :thumbsup2

This subject has been festering in the blogosphere for months. It goes well beyond being neighbors and into suggestions that Obama owes Ayers a lot for his political success.

Does anyone else wonder what the practical effect is of having an unrepentent ex-bomber distributing millions of dollars in "charity"? I would love to know who, or what, gets the money.

I really don't know much about this controversy. So Obama knew a terrorist when he was 8 years old, there might/or not be a connection still and this makes Obama a terrorist?

If I am reading correctly, then this would make the entire Bush family terrorists also for their friendship with the Saudi government?

Really, this seems insane to say either one.

No, Obama was 8 years old when said terrorist did his evil deeds. Obama has had an association with said terrorist as an adult; being neighbors, being on the same board, getting contributions from said terrorist, and even going to his house for a social event etc....

You don't need to kill anyone to be a terrorist.

Main Entry: ter·ror·ism
Pronunciation: \ˈter-ər-ˌi-zəm\
Function: noun
Date: 1795
: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion

Look, I don't think George Bush is a terrorist but under this definition, given his propensity for fear mongering, he could easily be called one. I mean, Homeland Security has terror alert signs at the ferry crossing from Hatteras Island to Ocracoke Island and who knows where else. They used fear as their basis for our entry into Iraq. Rove created fear for voters in 17 states during the last presidential election to create an electorate that would elect Bush. Fear was what Bush used the other day to explain to us why the Congress needed to bail out Wall Street. and on and on.

So, if I come to your home for a 'social event', I immediately take on all your sins and political beliefs? I think NOT! If you are my neighbor, I become YOU?
NOPE! If I sit on a board with you, my political beliefs are the same as yours? Naw! Does my $40 donation last night to the Athletic Boosters at my son's school automatically make all other Athletic Boosters liberal democrats? Wow!!!:worship: Now THAT is POWER!!! nep, don't think so.

What amazes me is everyone following along while the media calls the shots. Why are we talking about terrorism when statistically you're more likely to be in an automobile accident than a victim of a terrorist attack?

You're more likely to be hit by lightning than be a victim of a terrorist attack.

You're more likely to get cancer (or some other disease) with either no medical plan or an inadequate medical plan than be a victim of a terrorist attack.

You're more likely to lose your pension and 401k than be a victim of a terrorist attack.

You're more likely to see your job go overseas than be a victim of a terrorist attack.

You're more likely to lose your house than be a victim of a terrorist attack.

You're more likely to be a victim of everyday crime in America than be a victim of a terrorist attack.

Looks like the McCain/Palin plan of changing the focus to "things unlikely to happen" is working. Everyone's talking about terrorist ties instead of things that directly affect them.

I never said any of these things. I gave no opinion at all.

I was only clarifying something. I was explaining to one poster that it wasn't that he met him once at age 8, but this thread is about his possible association with him as an adult.

Ok, with all of the comments on Obama's associations with Bill Ayers and those defending it. Or saying what Ayers did happened years ago and is a changed man now. Not just on the board, but in the media also.

I have to ask would you say the same about the people who were behind the 9/11 bombing or the OK bomber, or the London bombers, or the people behind the Holocaust, how about the guy who did all the shootings a few years back in Washington?

I'm not saying Obama is in any way connected to what this man has done in his past. BUT, I don't think Ayers actions can be justified by saying oh it was done way back when, and now he's not that way.

It's interesting that you bring this up, I've heard people talking about this.

What, since the Bush Administration wasn't able to catch bin Laden, we're now worried about Bill Ayers? Is that the number one "terrorist" we're worried about? Good to know our priorities are straight.

In case you all haven't noticed, the whole world has fallen apart in the last few days and were mired in two wars we can't possibly win. People can't pay their mortgages and the Polar ice cap is melting. Maybe McCain/Failin should talk about that?

Oh wait, it's too scary to talk about. Let's give the people something they can wrap their tiny little brains around like Obama being associated with a "terrorist."

I am replying without reading the bulk of the thread:

I believe that with all morally reprehensible behavior that a leopard doesn't change his/her spots.

If someone had the ability something morally reprehensible once, they have the ability to do it again. I will give them credit if the don't ever do it again, and if they subsequenly do things to try and make up for their previous bad behavior, but I would never fully trust them.

Well, as an Independent, I can tell you that people's associations say a lot about the person themselves. My understanding from the media is that Senator Obama had a lot more than a "casual" association with Mr.Ayers.

NPR, which I happened to have on yesterday as I was driving, did a very interesting piece on Senator Oabam's association with Mr.Ayers and Senator McCain's involvement in the Keating Five case.

Neither situation speaks very well of the judgment and possibly the character, or lack thereof, of either man running for President. So that puts someone like me...the Independent voter who thinks that neither man is the Messiah who is going to save the country and the world...into quite a quandry...who is the lesser of the 2 evils??????:confused3

Oh that's easy. Because instead of trying to seriously fix all the problems this country has, we rather spend countless hours debating the ridiculous and inane.
See if you actually cut through all the BS you would actually have to contribute and do some work. See this way in 10 years when we've made absolutely no progress on our energy crisis, our economic crisis, heath care and social security crisis and education crisis, we can sit around and blame some one else yet again. We'd actually pick the best people to lead us, not this dimwitted bunch we've got now ( not the person who can raise the most money or the person who swears they are just an average gal) and we would demand the best from these people.

What's ironic is that while every body is worrying about terrorist the country is going to heck in a hand basket thanks to good ole flag waving, pledge of allegiance swearing Americans.
