A Taste of Spring - 30 million blooms, 1000 pics, 6 wonderful nights

I absolutely LOVE the girls dresses.. I must of just missed you.. We stayed at pop the Feb28-Mar6. I was also bummed about the goofy jets my son would have loved that. We stayed in the 70's building. I would definitely stay there again my only complaint was the food court got crazy busy sometimes..

I don't know what is up with the Cars topiary - it still wasn't up as of Monday, much to my disappointment. There's the arch and the flags, but just floral towers where Lightning and Mater are supposed to be. I think I got pics of all the others, though!

Joining in on your TR until I get brave enough to write our own.....

Our last Epcot day was Thursday the 10th and they still weren't there!!! :confused3 We were very disappointed that we could not see the Cars topiaries.

Once again we were up bright and early, and this time we got out the door in time to make it to rope drop at Studios. Boo had a little better night, probably because I just let her sleep with me from the start. She woke up once and was a little disoriented, but settled down much more quickly than the night before.

It was about 8:15 when we left our room and the girls were ready to be on our way!

The bus service in the mornings at Pop was wonderful and this was no exception. By the lack of a line in the queue we must have just missed a bus but we didn't wait more than about 5 minutes for the next one.

Before we knew it we were at the bag check. The lines were rather daunting, but it moved quickly and soon we joined the mass of people at the turnstiles.

For ESPN the Weekend, there were a couple of Streetmosphere characters done up in baseball jerseys making conversation with people in line. I wish I'd had my camera out, but keeping track of the girls and the stroller in that crowd I didn't go for it.

I did snap a few pics once we got through the gates and headed down to the stage under the hat.

2290416540051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

It was about 10 minutes to 9 when we found ourselves in front of the hat. Mulch, Sweat, and Shears was set up off to the left of the stage and we listened to them play a few songs before the ESPN crew kicked off their opening presentation.

2442617020051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

There was a short video clip from Mike & Mike, two of DH's favorite ESPN personalities, but they tape their show over at WWoS now and don't appear live at Studios. Then the cast members dropped the rope to the rest of the park and the crowd moved en masse to Toy Story Mania.

Now, I'm all for avoiding lines but this whole thing has gotten insane. I tweeted at 9:34 having just gotten our fastpasses, and the standby line was up to 90 minutes. It was 50min by the time I got to the ride at about 9:10, so we just grabbed FPs and settled for riding just once (and yes, you're reading that right - there was a 20min line just to get FPs, and our return time was 12:40. That was the longest line I waited in all day!).

I think the big touring plan sites are starting to become victims of their own popularity, at least during the "slow" seasons that attract us uber-planners. At two-ish when we headed over to see the Monsters the standby wait was 70min, which is about where it hovered all day according to the Lines app. That 90min first thing in the morning was the longest wait it posted all day.

With our fastpass mission accomplished, we headed over to Starring Rolls for a couple of muffins. On the way, I stopped to catch a few minutes of ESPN's First Take, which is DH's standard "morning show" TV habit, and snap a few pics for him.

2105600950051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

After breakfast, we split up. DM & Boo were headed for Voyage of the Little Mermaid, while Pocahontas and I headed for the biggies. I didn't take my camera for this part of the day because the thrillers were on the agenda.

Pocahontas and I headed over to Rock n Roller Coaster, which was posting a 20 minute wait. Standing in line I devised a new game - count the people checking their wait-times app! We made it to 10 before we got into the building, but the actual wait was more like 12 minutes than 20. It took us 20 minutes to wait in line, ride, buy DS a souvenir guitar pick in the gift shop, and be on our way to Tower of Terror. The wait for Tower of Terror was even shorter, but Pocahontas decided she didn't want to ride so instead we spent about 20 minutes checking out the ESPN Sports Zone area before heading back to meet up with DM and Boo.

We caught up with them in the Magic of Disney Animation building, where they'd decided to stop to see some characters.

We really hit the jackpot here because in addition to the usual characters they'd moved the characters that are normally at the hat into this building! We spent the rest of the time before lunch going from one ridiculously short character line to another.

Boo was just cuddling all over the characters this trip, a nice change from the last trip when she liked them better from arm's length!

Boo's autograph book was probably the best thing I made for this trip (for those who didn't follow my PTR, the book is most DonNatalie's designs from the Creative DISigners board, with a couple I modified for Rapunzel & Flynn, spiral bound courtesy of Snapfish - total cost < $10 and a lot of fun!).

The characters just loved seeing their own pages, and a few made a really big deal of it. Like Stitch here, making his "that's me" gesture and showing his handler the book.

By now it was time to head over to the Brown Derby for our lunch reservation. On the way out I just had to get a pic of this for DS. He's a huge Star Wars fan, so there's probably going to be a Star Wars Weekend trip at some point in our future.

Up next, finally a ride on TSM and Boo gets to meet her Monsters!

After lunch, the next stop was to use those hard-won TSM fastpasses. I really love the queue for this ride, the decor is just so cute!

Tinkertoys were my favorite as a kid.

2653070690051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

This was the first time we actually rode TSM, because the lines were just too crazy on our 2009 trip. I can understand a little better now why it is so popular. It is a really fun ride and something that I can see doing over and over. But I'm still not sure I'd do what it takes to ride it again. Rope drop never seems to work out with DH & DS, and I don't wait an hour plus in line for anything!

After leaving the ride I made a minor tactical error. There was a bit of a line, probably not more than 15-20 min, for the Buzz & Woody meet & greet. I've always been able to catch them both at Magic Kingdom so we decided just to head off in search of the Monsters, but we didn't end up seeing Buzz in Tomorrowland this trip. So he's one of three blank pages in Boo's otherwise completely full (and then some - we had to use the backs of a few pages!) 45 page autograph book.

I was making a conscious effort on this trip to take a different approach to Studios. It is usually my least favorite park from both a planning and a photography standpoint, so I told myself this time I'd take the time to notice more of the details and maybe learn to like the park a little more.

2786621790051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

When we got to the Monsters meet & greet, Mike was out all by himself. There was no line, and Boo fearlessly ran right up to him and yelled "Boo!"

2034922000051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

As we were leaving the cast member let us know that Sully was on a break and would be back in a few minutes so DM and Boo grabbed a seat near Studio Catering, which wasn't open, and Pocahontas and I ran over to Herbie's to grab a couple of drinks.

She loves this umbrella, and she's finally tall enough to make it rain! I have a picture of her under it from our 2008 trip where she had to climb the base of the light post just to reach the handle.

Our Monsters mission accomplished, we headed off to Muppetvision. This attraction has been around forever but it is still a favorite of our whole family. My kids love the Muppets, thanks largely to my DVD collection of original Muppet Show episodes.

2461698110051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Here we got the first glimpse of what became a comical habit of Boo's - she falls asleep in movies. Even without her earplugs, which she's learned how to take out, the volume not only doesn't upset her, it doesn't even keep her awake!

Now, genius that I am, we'd left Boo's stroller all the way back by TSM because she was wanting to walk. So when she fell asleep mid-Muppetvision, that meant I got to carry her all the way across the park! Somehow she stayed asleep, though, and didn't wake when I got her settled into the stroller so DM & Pocahontas decided to grab Mickey bars and hang out on a bench near One Man's Dream to let Boo sleep.

I headed off to the hat stage solo to catch the Baseball Tonight taping, because Justin Verlander from the Tigers was scheduled to appear. Unfortunately the schedule changed and he was replaced by a telephone interview with Jake Peavy, fresh off his first start after a season-ending injury last year, but it was still cool to see the taping.

The Phillies' Cliff Lee.

Going to have to break here because I have a ton of afternoon pics from the new Disney Junior show.

What great character fun!!! I've never seen Minnie, Donald or Daisy dressed like that-how cute! LOVE the Monster's Inc outfit!!!

I think they overstate the morning wait time for TSM-maybe in an effort to get people to move on. They tend to not open the entire queue on the inside so that the lines spreads outside and looks even worse than it is. I find they will often say 40 minutes while it is more like 20 but I don't think I would have wanted to chance that the 90 minutes was correct and even if it really "only" was 45 that is too long to wait.

Such a wonderful photo!!!!

My DS loves the Muppets thanks to my DVDs. He was Beaker for Halloween. Not too many kids knew who he was but all the adults loved it!

Kids are funny where they will sleep. On one trip my DD fell asleep in that Tarzan show they used to have at AK. That was LOUD.

As you may or may not know, Playhouse Disney Live on Stage closed in Jan or Feb for the changeover to Disney Junior. The reopening had me rearranging park days and ADRs right up until a few weeks before we left, because it was originally scheduled for March 6 and then moved back to March 4. Since there's so little to do at Studios for Boo, I switched our days around to be there after the originally-scheduled reopening when the rehab was first announced and then back to my first-draft schedule when the opening was pushed up. :rotfl:

So after the Baseball Tonight taping wrapped up, we woke Boo and parked the stroller to head over to Disney Junior. The new show was cute but I'm not sure what took 6 weeks to change - the sets are updated to better reflect the current Disney Junior line up, but the show is essentially the same.

After helping the Clubhouse gang with Minnie's birthday surprise we headed back to the Animation building for the "secret" characters they have out on non-Fantasmic nights.

But before leaving Disney Junior I noticed one of those funny things that pop up on the theme parks board that I'm generally oblivious to. My mom has a hard time with on the floor seating so she found a spot on a bench at the rear of the theatre. On another of the benches was a youngish man, probably mid-20s, with the ESPN gear from the weekend travel package and wearing a Tigers hat & jersey, fast asleep. He'd been there from before the doors opened for our show and stayed for the next one. I suppose as places to nap at Disney World go that's a good one, cool and dark at least. :rotfl:

Back in the Animation building, we encountered the only characters Boo was a little apprehensive about.

2664725170051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Then it was on to friendlier faces.

Boo was still a little sleepy, and Dale made a good pillow.

Chip & Dale share a page in Boo's autograph book, so Chip drew a helpful arrow to show Pocahontas which one he is.

We were the last family Chip & Dale met before taking a break and Boo did not want to let go of Dale's hand, so he started walking off like he was going to take her home. She was just fine with that!

Boo soon found someone else soft to cuddle.

Pocahontas loved getting to meet Mary Poppins. My inlaws recently bought the movie on DVD and it is a new favorite of hers.

2191524230051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

On the way out to catch our boat for dinner, we stumbled across one of the athlete motorcades. It was mainly NBA players and neither DH nor I are basketball fans so I really didn't recognize most of them, but even I knew who this was. Julius "Dr J" Irving, NBA hall-of-famer.

2440331210051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

After dinner, we just boated back to Studios to hop a bus home. We were all pretty tired, and we wanted to be rested for the next day - a full day of Flower & Garden fun at Epcot.

I noticed that about a lot of early wait times - they seem to be routinely overstated by 10-20min. Still, I don't get in lines that say 90 min! :rotfl:

I'm spoiled, I know, because we usually go in even slower seasons than the moderate crowds of pre-spring-break March, but I can't think of many things in life that I'd wait in a 90 minute line for and none of theme are theme park rides.

Wow, look at all those characters! My family won't wait more than an hour for a ride either! I love the photo of Boo meeting Kitty! :goodvibes

Found your thread on the facebook group so I thought I'd join in! Gotta get caught up now. :)

ETA: Oh, how fun you went to the Tigers-Braves game! My dad and sister are there now (we're Brewers fans!) and are going to the Braves-Phillies game. I'm trying to convince my sister to go to the one when they play the Nationals. It's the very last game there for this year's spring training. So we'll see!

I have never seen Monsters Inc. What does Kitty mean?

Boo, the little girl in Monsters Inc., calls Sully Kitty. She's not afraid of him even though he's a monster because he's not HER monster.

You should see the movie. It was the only Disney movie my then 3 1/2 year old would watch before her first Disney trip. We watched it nearly every night. She's now almost 12. My youngest just turned 8 and she wasn't crazy about it when she was smaller but she enjoys it now and my 10 year old son now says it is one of his favorites.

Enjoying your report! We were there at the same time as you, but different parks on different days. TSM was crazy all days. On the day we went, we got a 4:00 FP return time at 9:45 AM.

I agree with you on Disney Junior. The story line was exactly the same, except theysubbed in Jake and the Neverland Pirates for Darby and Pooh. Obviously, the changed signage from Playhouse Disney and Disney Junior, but it seems like they could have made those changes much quicker.

It is what Boo calls Sully. She isn't scared of him at all, and calls him kitty and plays with his tail. Which is SO something my Boo would do!

It is a really gorgeous park, much more glossy and professional than I expected for a spring facility, and now I really want to see the Tigers home field at Lakeland! Joker Marchant (the Tigers home spring training field) is consistently ranked near the top of fan-favorite lists for the Grapefruit League teams.

Boo's poses with the characters are so funny.

She was so silly all trip! She's not so good with looking at the camera and God forbid I tell her to smile because she makes a REALLY goofy face, so I mostly just click-clicked away while she did her thing.

Yeah, the day we were there the TSM FPs were gone by 10:15 so I could see a 4pm return at 9:45. I'd like to hope it'll be a little less nuts by the next trip, but I thought that last trip too and it has only gotten crazier so who knows. :headache: DH & DS may never ride it if it stays the way it is because I don't see them caring about any one ride enough to make rope drop.

I suspect Playhouse Disney was dark for as long as it was in part to have a high-staffing, low-demand attraction out of commission for the Jan/Feb slow season. The changes they made are something that could have been done in a matter of days, not weeks. You'd think they'd have wanted to bring it back up right when the new theme launched, in time for the Presidents' Day rush, rather than waiting for the start of spring break season. :confused3

I have the pics from our first Epcot day uploading now, and there are a LOT of them. I should have another update posted later on today... Along with some "maybe" news about a next trip!

The early mornings were starting to become habit by this point I guess, because we were up and at the bus stop with time to spare to make rope drop. The weather was once again sunny and fabulous, and it was shaping up to be the warmest day of the trip so far.

Someone had far too much energy getting to the bus stop.

Notice what she's not wearing? She left her clip-on sunglasses in the room, which ended up causing problems later.

About quarter till 9 we arrived at...

2908654600051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

First off was the Soarin' stampede. This was the event that convinced me rope drop just isn't for me, and unlike TSM there's no real reason for this craziness at Soarin'. I thought we'd ride right away, but after seeing the crowd at the rope DM decided she'd rather take Boo and Pocahontas over to check out Pixie Hollow. I made the run alone just to grab fastpasses and then headed across the park to ride Test Track with Pocahontas.

Of course I stopped to take a couple pics on the way.

2094324020051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Test Track was posting a 20 minute wait when we got over there, but I doubted it was really running that long and I was right. We walked through an all-but-empty queue and waited maybe 10 minutes before boarding.

2834797860051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

I love this texture.

2431673020051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Only Briefing Room 1 was in use this early, but that didn't stop me from getting a pic of this sign.

2454446240051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Before we knew it we were in our car and on our way.

2284836830051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

While Pocahontas and I were on Test Track, DM and Boo headed over to get in line at Pixie Hollow. They got there about 9:40 and the line for Tink's first set was already closed! We were second in line for the other fairies, but I knew Pocahontas really wanted to see Tink and there were already people starting to line up for when she would come back out at 10:50. This meet and greet is shaping up to be every bit as nuts as the Rapunzel play & greet.

So while I was explaining to a pouting Pocahontas that we'd make sure to get back to see Tink later or on our second Epcot day, we got a little pixie dust that just made our morning. They had gotten through the initial number of families with time to spare, so the first few of us in line for Vidia and Rosetta got to see Tink and Terrence AND keep our position in line for the others! :dance3: So we got to see all four fairies with only one turn through the queue.

2560510880051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

The fairies always seem to be the most fun characters to interact with, and this time was no exception. Terrence noticed Pocahontas' Sailor Moon tennies and commented that it looked kind of like Tink on her shoes.

Photo limit break only an hour into our park day. That must be a record!!

After meeting the fairies we spent some time in the Pixie Hollow garden area. They had little placemat type activity sheets for the kids and rubbing stations in front of each fairy's topiary to collect their "signatures". Finishing the page earned stickers from the cast members at the end of the path.

Also sprinkled through this garden were some fairy homes, vehicles, and other creations.

And in the center of the garden was the Pixie Dust tree.

And now, yet another photo limit break before I take y'all over to Bambi's Butterfly House!

Probably the silliest pictures of the trip, these are for DH because I'm filling in the paths between my gardens with this plant this year and he's having a hard time picturing it (you'd think I'd have him won over at "no mow" :confused3).

There was a small play area at the end of the fairy garden on the softest grassy surface, along with a really annoying and messy area with some scoops and a table and groundcover of small, smooth pebbles. The girls didn't like the pebbles in their shoes, fortunately, but they played for a while on the play structure while I ran over to grab a set of Test Track FPs for later, just in case Pocahontas wanted to ride again.

Just past the fairy garden was the Sounds of Nature area with listening dishes and the whole "whisper here, hear it across the room" thing you find at so many science centers. The girls loved playing on it, but I had to hold Boo to whisper into the right spot so I didn't get many pics.

Next up was the butterfly house. The girls would have headed straight there if they had their way, but I knew better than to wait on seeing Tink!

On the way over, we ran into this cutie.

Just inside the butterfly house were the cast of Bambi in floral form.

I loved the real butterfly on the topiary butterfly.

The butterfly house was pretty crowded and the butterflies weren't terribly active. I think it was already a little too warm, I know at the one at our zoo the butterflies like to lie around and soak up the sun on warmer days.

Pocahontas liked the hatching houses. We hatched our own butterflies a year or two back as a science project, so the life cycle is familiar to her.

This one crawled right onto Pocahontas hand.

Another random flower I intend to put in my yard. DH has a hard time with the "weed" part of the name so I decided a visual aid was in order. This is the primary food plant for monarchs in the caterpillar stage.

Next up we decided to head for the Imagination pavilion to fit in a couple of attractions before lunch.

Boo LOVED Figment. We had to ride twice.

And like her big brother and sister, she loved the "toys" in the post-ride area just as much as the ride itself.

While Boo ran around the noisy activities, Pocahontas build a Figment of her own.

Finally, we headed over to an attraction that was new to me - Captain EO. It closed before my first visit to WDW, and even though I knew it would be cheesy and dated I just had to see it while it is there again!

2622779260051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

It was actually more fun than I expected. Sure, the effects are dated and the storyline is a little hokey, but it is vintage George Lucas before all the fancy digital stuff and I am a HUGE Star Wars fan. And Michael Jackson's crew was so obviously straight out of Jim Henson's creature shop in the same era that produced the critters for another of my favorite films, Labyrinth.

Pocahontas got a pin at the gift shop for our across the street neighbor, an 8yo boy who is a huge Michael Jackson fan.

Next up... the journey to France for lunch, and more character fun!
