A Tale of [family madness in] Two Cities - Final Thoughts & PTR Link!

Very smart idea to just spend that last morning relaxing and exploring OUTSIDE the parks! :thumbsup2 I agree with Claryche about Henry's breakfast plates making the Hidden Mickey. Can't wait to hear about the DIS meet on the beach from your perspective!

I probably don't even need to tell you how much I loved this update!!! :laughing:Breakfast at Boma looks delicious -- so much yummier than the bowl of Cheerios I will be having in a few minutes. The walk around the gift shop and the lodge was lovely, BUT...the piece de resistance of this update has to be the zebra domes on the savannah!!! :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

Hi Brook! I am glad you enjoyed my Biergarten comments! :goodvibes There are 16 states in Germany. West Germany used to have 11, so we got 5 additional ones with reunification. I guess I need to have a close look next time I am in Epcot to see wether they have all 16 coat of arms now since Epcot was built in 1982, so before reunification.

I hope you get to check out your local beergarden! lovealldisney posted some interesting links about German history in Milwaukee and one was about a brewery and how they started out with a beer garden and how much this was part of German way of life. :goodvibes

And I think I really have to make a point to visit Biergarten in Epcot next time - even though speaking to the German CMs there in German might feel a bit embarassing. :confused3:eek:

I loved your Jambo House update and agree on the pool... :sad2: Boma is a wonderful breakfast, but trying new things is great as well! And since you still have your DVC, you know you will be back soon!!

I will have to do some research on this area and the Beer Garden. It might literally just be to attract young adults out of Manhattan and into Queens with cheap beer and food though. This area I know is mostly known for Greeks....but who knows, perhaps there is some lesser known German roots as well.

It's so strange that they painted the pool blue, isn't it?! It doesn't fit at all.

That is what I figure with the DVC. I told Joe the other day that I do better with more relaxed touring if we have a future trip already on the books. He just laughed at me. I know we'll be back, but when? :hyper:  I think we'll like our choice, it gets very good reviews.

On our AK day during our trip in February we decided to visit AKL to check it out and have lunch. I told DH that we had to try the Zebra Domes because I had heard so much about them on the DIS. We both loved them. I thought it was great that I was able to get them as my dessert on the dining plan.

I think that is GREAT too! I love that the Mara has them in their cases! Easy access to the Domes. ::yes::

Another wonderful update!! Hmmmm...Boma for breakfast sounds delightful! I love that juice, I think they serve it at Tusker House and I have like 8 glasses there SO GOOD!!!!

Loved the shopping pics...you are right those figurines are so cute, of course I don't have any place to put them right now either!! LOL!! Can't wait to see pics of the windbreaker!!

I have seen updated pics of Henry and you are right he is growing up so FAST!! He's becoming quite the little man!

I think it is the same as at Tusker House, or very close too. It's so stinkin' good! I drank a ton of it as well!

I practically lived in the windbreaker in NOLA. :rotfl: I was so, so grateful we took the plunge and spent that much. We don't normally buy anything over $15 or $20, and aren't big on souvenirs, so it was kind of a big deal for our budget, especially that trip since we were so tight on money.

It's unreal how quickly Henry has grown up over the last 7 months. He speaks in full sentences now and almost anyone can understand him. He's loosing the baby talk. Though, he still does call fruit snacks, "noot nacks". It's adorable!

I love the "drawn to nature" shirt!!

Zebra domes look yummy :)

They are so, so good. If you are ever near AKL, try some!!

I think it was a very wise decision to avoid the parks on New Years Eve!

AKL was the one resort I wanted to check out at Christmas that I didn't get a chance too - the decorations look beautiful :goodvibes

Yum, zebra domes!

I wasn't so wise later in the day. :rolleyes1 But only for a brief few moments!

The decorations at AKL are very, very pretty, similar to AKs.

We just ate there last week. Dinner, though. I had bobotie, too. It was okay. We also had falafel and couscous and frufru (or fufu?). Anyway, it was interesting to taste some different things. The ribs and the roast were both very good!

Isn't that a great gift shop? I have some of the same pictures you have.

Zebra domes and a walk around the resort was a nice peaceful way to spend the morning. You know it was crazy in the parks.

Mmmm...falafel. Yummy! We did dinner there once and we both liked it, but we like the breakfast much better.

Love that gift shop! It just takes you in deeper and deeper, there is so much to look at!

Oh ya, we kept hearing reports from various CMs about the status of the parks. I cannot recall what time MK closed, but I don't think it was too shortly after we finished breakfast. Later in the day I experienced some of the craziness.

What a perfect way to spend your last Disney day! I also definitely would not want to fight with NYE crowds, just to see Wishes. It's lovely of course but I bet it's also insane in MK!

I also want that red Mickey shirt with the peace signs. Adorable!!!

Insane is a good word for it! :rotfl: It's pretty unreal to see/experience!

I very much enjoyed Wishes and the NYE fireworks from my position at the Poly beach. It was a great location!

I was only there just about 6 months - Mark lived out there for over a year. I was with MTV just a few months before transferring to Chicago. I really did not want to leave, but we had to..Mark's company was transferring him back to Chicago. :sad2:

I agree with you...from him I get "it's too cold." :headache: That's why we went in Sept instead of December for my b-day.

I still cannot believe it's blue. I've seen the photos and have been disappointed and I bet I'll be even moreso when we see it in person. It should be green!

That was very nice of you to share...I think we have a few friends that might not! :lmao:

Oh, that stinks! Kinda sounds like my last time living here, I didn't want to leave, but I did for the husband! Thankfully he wanted to come back too!

Early December can be very very nice though Mark! Later December is a carp shoot. It was cold our week, except 2 days.

It should be green! Maybe they had a new CM on the job and he misunderstood something?

Oh yes, we both know some people that would NOT share those Domes! I should have bought 2 packs though...!

I know that you said you were upset that you didn't do a plate hidden mickey, but as soon as I saw this picture, I saw a hidden Mickey.

Don't you agree?

You are RIGHT! :rotfl2: I don't recall purposely arranging him that way either....!

Hi Flossbolna,

Miller Brewery is the second largest brewery in the US. The Miller name is everywhere in Milwaukee. Even our baseball statium is is called Miller Park.

We are not only know for beer but also for sausages!! Bratwurst especially! If you are invited to someones house for a cookout in summer you most likely will have brats and burgers being grilled! Mmmmmm.... I think I need to go buy brats after work for dinner. I like to boil them in beer and onions before grilling. I am so anxious to get to Germany to try all the varieties there!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usinger's
http://www.usinger.com/

I have sent many a gift box of Usinger's sausages to people for Christmas. It's always a big hit!

http://www.klements.com/index.html

We even have racing sausages during the our baseball games here at home. :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sausage_Race

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaUe8Jz2G_g

We have a great German restaurant as well. I haven't eaten there though but my daughter has gone on a trip with her German class from school.

http://www.madersrestaurant.com/

Oooh, this looks like some very tasty research that I need to look into. Being from the midwest myself (Illinois and Minnesota), and German heritage, I love me some brats!! Brats aren't very popular around here in Queens, so maybe I'll just have to order a box and surprise my hubby!

Boma looks so yummy!!! :cloud9:

I love Henry's Hidden Mickey picture, even if he didn't fully cooperate. :rotfl2:

Boma is so very tasty. I want to try Tusker House too since it's supposedly pretty similar.

Yes, it was Miller where I read about the beergarden and how popular they were.

More interesting links! I know that Brook loves brats, so I hope she will enjoy those as well! :goodvibes The Usinger sausages really look like what you can buy at a butcher here. :thumbsup2 However, sausage races aren't that common in Germany! :lmao:

I am getting really interested in this, I am wondering wether I ought to make a trip to Milwaukee one day...

I do love brats! I miss them! We have a small garden area here, perfect for a little grill to make some brats. ;)

Sausage Races. I gotta look into THAT one!

You could do a Milwaukee/Chicago trip they are very close! Madison, Wisconsin is a lovely city as well.

Very smart idea to just spend that last morning relaxing and exploring OUTSIDE the parks! :thumbsup2 I agree with Claryche about Henry's breakfast plates making the Hidden Mickey. Can't wait to hear about the DIS meet on the beach from your perspective!

It was a very nice way to start our morning. Later I got a wild hair though...:rolleyes1

I figured you might like that!!! I thought of you while taking that picture!

I've read it all, but my son is bugging me to get on to play a game. So, I'll have to comment another time... all i have to say right now...

ZEBRA DOMES!!! :banana::banana::banana:

Another great update!! Great way to spend the last day! Some day I will try a ZD... I remember seeing them when we ate dinner at Boma but I didn't try one then. :confused3
So now that you are getting to the end of this TR are you going to get the new PTR started?? No pressure or anything! ;) You do a great job of taking us to Disney with your TRs, they are fun to read... and it is fun to see Henry grow up!

Oh, next time you have the opportunity, be sure to grab it! So yummy!

Yep! I do plan to start a PTR! I am going to wrap up the Disney portion here and try to squeeze the New Orleans portion into just a few updates - then onto the PTR! I'm really looking forward to getting all the ideas out and the plans made, I haven't been able to wrap my head around it all quite yet, so some stuff is still up in the air.

Just a few comments:

Breakfast at Boma looks really, really wonderful! We went with dinner because I don't like to get up early, and DON"T want to miss early AM park time, BUT if I were to ever stay at AKL, then Boma would be a NO-MISS!

Quinoa is so tasty- we used to eat it a lot when we lived in Ecuador. Mmm!

Now those little wooden animals are EXACTLY the kind of souvie I"m looking for. Something that reminds me of Disney, but doesn't necessarily say Disney or have any characters on it. And $10 is a great price!

Boma is so, so good!! Tusker House I've heard is similar, so you could always do that if you are interested too.

I really like quniona as well, Joe isn't such a fan, so I really only get it at Boma.

I wonder if they have similar animals at AK? I would think they would... I like that kind of souvie too, in a small space if we even get just a few of something "themed" it feels like it starts to take over the whole house!

We left off as our wonderful Boma breakfast was ending, Jambo House was explored and a few souvies from the gift shop were purchased.

Back at Kidani Henry we lounged around a bit, did laundry and started to pack our bags. One by one that afternoon the family members started to drift off. Poppa in front of the TV, Joe sprawled out on our bed, KK on her bed...after Henry took his turn and crashed out in the pack & play I decided now was an excellent opportunity to go solo. I was determined to go see some other resorts Christmas decorations!

As I was just about to leave Kidani, the savanna pulled me outside once again and made me pause for a short while. Look what I saw:

Such beautiful creatures!

I decided to play Disney Bus Roulette and just take whatever bus came first between Epcot, DHS, or MK.

Epcot won!

On the way over I decided I would take the monorail from Epcot over to the Grand Floridian so I could see the gingerbread house.

I got off the bus and forgot that you actually have to go through bag check at Epcot to board the monorail - so I took advantage of those moments and gawked at the lines just waiting to buy tickets for the park.

759690722_86TVw-M.jpg

When I got to the monorail ramp it was chained off with a CM standing in front of it. MK was already filled to capacity, so no one was allowed to take the monorail unless you were a resort guest. I explained I was just going over to the GF to view the decorations, showed my ID and was let up. It was a bit strange being the ONLY person on the platfrom...!

759690740_S9EPj-M.jpg

While riding the monorail around I had a great view of the various parking lots....which on most any other trip would bore me, but this trip it was interesting to see how many cars were at the parks.

759690755_gFeRQ-M.jpg

They had cars parked on the grass.

759690771_pnxdZ-M.jpg

Look! A lot is still empty!

759690779_aZuL7-M.jpg

The cars went on and on and on!

Arriving at the GF

759690815_P823A-M.jpg

Beautiful!

759690838_QcTfE-M.jpg

759690847_wPRKr-M.jpg

759690826_SaiV3-M.jpg

I spotted the Teddy Bear Lady

759690856_2qHUX-M.jpg

759690872_LuTRj-M.jpg

I've walked around the GF a few times, but never once have I noticed this!

I made my way downstairs and found the Gingerbread House...for some reason I was imagining it much larger and one that guests could actually walk in...no idea why I thought that! But it was still very neat to see and quite the work of art!

After I had walked around the GF lobby a few times taking in the decorations, I found myself back near the Gingerbread House, I was entertaining the idea of buying a treat...

759691178_CHgRn-M.jpg

But, I completely forgot about the treat when I spotted these two! I am thinking this was during the Alice tea, they were both quite focused on the few girls with them, which just made it very sweet to watch.

I headed back upstairs toward the monorail and paused when I noticed this...looks like the drummer has a few buddies.

759691274_V2J7b-M.jpg

The one note says "Play Free Bird man!" :rotfl: Can you imagine Free Bird being played at the GF?!?!

759691271_87fLv-M.jpg

759691303_XN3Yn-M.jpg

I slowly left the GF and boarded the monorail to take me back to Epcot. When the monorail made its loop through the park, I had fun snapping pictures of the madness below.

People waiting to get into the gates.

On the ride over Epcot I decided I would join the masses. I would just walk through to get a taste of how things were, then exit through the International Gateway to head over to the Boardwalk and Beach Club.

759691518_n9wTg-M.jpg

Cars were parked everywhere!

I tried to be slick and go to an end gate to enter into Epcot, but even that took a good 20 minutes to get through.

759691535_FKmy3-M.jpg

I took advantage of being alone and got some pictures of the very cute topiaries.

Going further into the park, here is what I encountered...

759691585_uJKgD-M.jpg

45 minute wait for Spaceship Earth.

759691586_Qzsdu-M.jpg

I just HAD to check out the Wait Times!

759691640_toYWk-M.jpg

4.5 hours for Soarin'! While I love that ride, I don't think I would ever wait that long!

759691628_zS73w-M.jpg

759691642_7Nhm4-M.jpg

One thing I don't believe I have mentioned yet is that for nearly every PP Photographer there was always a line that week, just to get your picture taken...so when I spotted TWO on NYE without a line I laughed and had to snap a picture!

759691668_q9Dr3-M.jpg

And I had to put one of them to work!

A few people on the bridge.

759691718_oiwoD-M.jpg

I breathed a great sigh of relief when I made it here! I had been curious as to how busy the park was and felt. It was packed, much more so than the day before. Obviously by the Times Board there were some attractions that had very little to no wait, so it was doable, but it took plenty of patience to walk through the park.

759691743_yqLbX-M.jpg

I will see YOU in 50 days! :yay:

759691968_pun5C-M.jpg

LL, this place has beautiful light fixtures!

And right about this time my energy just disappeared.

I wanted to go see the carousel at the Beach Club, but I just couldn't do it. It was getting late in the day, I wanted to spend some time with Joe and Henry at the lodge- and I had a very important meet for later that evening. So, it was back to Kidani for me!

:

Yep! I do plan to start a PTR! I am going to wrap up the Disney portion here and try to squeeze the New Orleans portion into just a few updates - then onto the PTR!

I'm glad you'll finish with New Orleans...I really want to hear about that part and see the pictures ;)

Please, no more pictures of Christmas decorations. It is making me very depressed.

haha, no, just kidding. They are amazing. Checking out all the decorations is one my favorite things about going over the holidays. :goodvibes

The wait times on NYE are always so crazy! I don't know how anybody could have the patience to wait 4 hours for Soarin! I'm with you, I love it but that is just insane. :scared1:

Awww, what sweet giraffe pictures!!!

Wow!!! I am really glad you were able to capture in photos some of the craziness at the parks on NYE without having to really be there for a long time or trying to tour!

The Christmas decorations at the Grand Floridian and the Boardwalk are just so pretty! I don't think I realized you were staying at the Boardwalk on your next trip! How fun!!!

759690202_73amP-M.jpg

Want.

They had this shirt at DTD... on sale for less than twenty! I loved it too, and bought it! Pixie dust that they still have some remaining!

Talk about impressive crowds! Wow! I knew they would get busy for NYE but woooow! You were very brave going into that!
The giraffe's are so majestic, love them!
Thanks for the Christmas decoration tour... very pretty! :goodvibes

That Giraffe looks like you caught it red handed lol

Loved the Christmas decorations. We didn't visit other resorts when we went during christmas time. That one time. We didn't have enough time and energy left hehe

Brooke -

What a cool update! I am so glad you posted that. It's like you were an undercover reporter checking out the NY's eve madness without actually participating in it.

4.5 hours for Soarin? Did those people wear attends in case they needed a bio break? Never in my wildest dreams would I wait in line that long.

I can't imagine having to walk through wall to wall people from one end of Epcot to the other. I think you had a great idea to tour the resorts and see the decorations. Perfect!

p.s. Yes - that little chair is very creepy!
