We are going to start swimming when the kids go back to school and I was trying to find exercises that we can do in the pool besides the regular swimming. Does anyone know of any that we can do?
I tried to do a google search, but didn't come up with anything.

I swim everyday. Are you going to be in a pool with a deep end?

I have been swimming a lot this month and one thing I try to do every time I go is to work my legs. I get a boogie board and I go 10 laps only using my legs (kicking) to propel myself. Another thing that is good for you is to tread water for 45 min. As for actual water exercises go I don't know of any, sorry, maybe someone else can comment.

Yes it has a deep end.
I was thinking of maybe walking in water, running, I will do the tread water thing too. What about some "water aerobics"? (what exactly woudl that be?)

Deep ends are great because you can't cheat and touch the bottom!
What I do in my deep end is keep myself in it for as long as I can above water. Try moving your legs back and forth, side to side in big motions and your arms moving in front of you and then in back of you without letting your head go under or touching ground. I can do this for about 15 min. and then I feel like I've had a great workout, you may have to build yourself up to this unless your already in great cardio shape!

Have fun. Sometimes DS does it with me and he starts pretending that we are stranded out at sea and he HAS to do this to survive! Makes it a lot of fun. Sometimes I get laughing at him and I sink...LOL

I also play Marco Polo with DS and his cousin who are both 16. Trying to keep up with the two of them in the pool is a days work in itself! Of course they always love it when I'm it

Check out water aerobic videos from your library for tips on appropriate exercises to do in the water. When I get in I'll do some sets of the exercises without an actual "routine" memorized. Here are some titles you could look for:

Water Works (with Karen Westfall)
Noodle workout (this one incorporates the use of a fun-noodle)
Complete waterpower workout
Aquatic exercise
W.E.T. workout

HTH!

(edited for misspelling)

I'm not sure I can give you any specific exercises like some of the others did but I just wanted to say that any kind of motion that you do in the water is great for exercise. The weight of the water against your muscles makes for extra work that you don't realize your even doing. They say swimming works muscles you don't even know you have. I used to swim competitively and I was really, really thin and always in shape and that's why. I got in my pool everyday and I didn't always do laps. Sometimes I played volleyball with my brother or made whirl pools with the family or just goofed around but just moving in the water kept me in pretty good shape. Good luck, I am hoping to go to the community pool once I lose about 10 more pounds. That will make me feel good!

Have A Disney Day!!!!!!:smooth:
