I'm so excited! My best friend and I have a huge trip (staying at the Poly for 9 days, dining plan, etc) planned for April but we bought annual passes so we could make another big trip later in the year too. She decided she'd really like to go for a short trip before April so we tossed around some ideas on dates in February and March, and I ended up grabbing a BOG reservation on February 25th that cemented our plans.
Considering my husband's birthday is February 23rd, I brought up the idea of taking him too and she was all for it. We've already booked an off-site condo (in the same complex as several of my friends live), plane tickets, rental car and several ADRs. She's giving him his own annual pass for his birthday as a thank you for how many times he's letting me travel with her and not him this year (she inherited several properties last fall and I've spent quite a bit of time traveling to help her sell or rent them) and the best part - he has NO clue about any of this!
When BFF and I first came up with this idea, I was trying to figure out how to make it a true surprise. So I had a very convincing phone conversation with him where I discussed taking some time off work for his birthday and going somewhere just to relax and spend some time away from home since he hasn't gotten to do that much lately. He was all for the idea, and I mentioned that I wanted to make use of some of the rewards points (frequent flier miles and hotel rewards) that I've been earning with all this travel but I wasn't sure where we could go on just points this time of year. Basically, I then convinced him to let me plan it as a complete surprise and all he would get to know is if we were driving or flying and whether to pack for warm or cold weather. He is incredibly excited about this idea and I don't think a Disney trip has even crossed his mind!
We fly out the evening of his birthday, so here's the current plan:
My brother will drop us off at the airport - he's always our airport ride, so nothing unusual here
BFF will meet us inside the airport with a gift for DH's birthday
Inside the box will be his Magic Band - surprise, we're going to Disney!
My friends that live in the same condo complex we're staying are going to go there before we arrive and do some decorating and gather several of our friends from when we lived down there to be waiting when we get there that night for a surprise birthday party!
Then the next day we have breakfast reservations at Ohana to kick off our 3-day whirlwind birthday trip!
