I've read on this board that a lot of you bring a tripod to the parks with you. My question is... what are you setting the tripod on to take the pictures? See, a really stupid question!!!
Thanks

OOHH oooh I can answer that one!

The ground!

Mikeeee

But seriously, you can lug a 20 pounder full size, or a lightweight full size or a mid to small size tripod and use anything available for additional height. A trash can or whatever. But you are then stuck in the location of the object. Full size can move a foot or two left or right to get out from behind someone or something.

THere is also the www.gorillapod.com
the legs just wrap around almost anything as a mount.

mostly you'd use it for something like fireworks, not all day every shot so even if you took a little table top model you could put it on a wall or garbage can or something, if you go when it's busy you'd have to park yourself early, if you go in winter like me, not as much of a problem....i however have always been lazy and even if i took it, left it in the lockers  which is why i don't have any nice fireworks shots( just wiggly ones)

I just ordered the gorrilapod that JR6ooo4 put up a link to. It is actually small enough that it will fit in my fanny pack! So, I'll put it in things jann1033 said, walls or garbage cans. I am not going to try to hook it around anything, I think my camera is a little too heavy to risk doing that. But, I just wanted something small and easy to handle. I also basically wanted it for fireworks.

I have a sunpack 14 to 43.5 inch tripod. I found I lot that I kept the legs closed but extended them and used it more like a monopod. When sitting I would rest if on my leg or chest. LOL for some shots when it was on my chest I had to hold my breath when I took the picture because I was using a slow shutter speed :)
