A story of renewed hope & the power of Dis

Hope Aunt Mary is okay. Prayers and hugs.

YAY for Fred getting time off and for a NYC ticker.

Hey Nutty!
Aunt Mary is always in my prayers as well as you. Hope your hopping along just fine and your walk is FINE!
Love your favorite cheering crowd! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

It took me quite a while to catch up, but I've finally done it! Now that i'm home, I have so much to get caught up on here at the house, but first I HAD to catch up on my DIS family. I have my priorities.

This thread has been all over the place, right? It's always good for a laugh or two or three and it is most welcome. I do hope your aunt is getting along better and will continue to keep her in my prayers of course. You have a lot of DIS friends and I'm sure that helps you cope.

So glad you've set a date to get back to work. It's always good to have a goal to work toward. What did they ever do about your hip pain? Did they find out what was causing it? I know you are working hard at your PT and I'm so glad you have someone who pushes you but is understanding too. Great combination!

Dan and I love to watch all the shows too: CSI:NY, Criminal Minds, NCIS, Elementary, Person of Interest just to name a few. I know what you mean about laughing about certain things. Whenever they show an x-ray, I laugh because sometimes they are upside down and sometimes it's the chest of a woman when they are talking about a man. Also I worked a lot in surgery and that's where it really gets unreal on the shows!

I'm so glad you found a partner for the 1/2 marathon. That's quite a goal you've set for yourself, but I have no doubt you can achieve it. As for my new way of eating, it's going pretty well. I'm pretty used to my limitations now that it's been 3 months. I have been "testing" out a few things here and there to see how I tolerate them. I have not lost as much weight as I thought I would since I've eliminated sweets, dairy and gluten. No bread for 3 months, no dessert or candy for 3 months...I DESERVE to loose weight, right?! And of course, Dan, who does not need to lose any weight has lost 20 pounds just eating what I can eat. There is no justice!!! I've lost some and gone down a size, but for all I've eliminated, I expected more. A LOT more. And as far as meat goes, I can have it, but Dan and I don't always want it. We eat meat maybe half the time and are happy with that.

Well, I have laundry to do and a house to clean, so I'd better get going. Please let us know how Aunt Mary is doing. And you take good care of yourself too!

Fred got approval for time home July 16, 17, 18, 19 return road 20th I can't do anything until we see how Aunt Mary gets through (looking at leaving here early AM 17th and return as late as possible 19th)
Figured if I add a NY Ticker it will REALLY happen :goodvibes

Thank you for the prayers too

I'm probably not going to be able to get time off work in July - that's vacation time around here and with my trip in September, I need to watch the extra days off. I'm hoping to meet up with my quilting buddies in November, but even that is up in the air until I figure out if I'm going to get enough comp time this year.:confused3

 that's all.

and most times thats enough

Hope Aunt Mary is okay. Prayers and hugs.

Me too this IS family and so glad my "wayward Sister" is finally home :thumbsup2

We laugh, we cry, we pray, we yell, we hug, we support "We are family I have all my sisters with me" (now that will be stuck in my head & probably yours too !!) I need to watch the Birdcage Again NEED to laugh You weren't HERE but your presence was felt, thanks for the prayers

Have set a date for several reasons, primarily I will walk less in my regular job, followed by need to get my life back, harder and harder to function in a work environment in the daylight (night owl worker most of my life) and MONEY can't get O/T in this situation Reason for leg/hip pain bruised muscles and no authorization for PT for too long...no matter Shoulder is EXCELLENT just a few shortcomings Everything will be fine :thumbsup2

I'm so glad you found a partner for the 1/2 marathon. That's quite a goal you've set for yourself, but I have no doubt you can achieve it.

I'm thrilled too ! I've been highly motivated throughout all this but he gives that extra hmmmph when needed, its like I want to make HIM proud

Always seems easier for guys to lose weight especially when they aren't even trying I have to say I RARELY cook so I frequent the frozen food section when just buying for me Thought of you recently found Amys brand Gluten free Pizza and Chungs brand chinese food Didn't seem like it was missing anything in fact quite delish :thumbsup2 bread though that would be very hard for me Sandwich kind of Grab & Go lifestyle

That's okay T' going up for such a short time would have been near impossible to connect BUT Sept WDW=BD for both of us am going to bang on my younger DD's door though and give her the long over-due "Life is too short" parent/child speech

To all of my family here: Aunt Mary Update has had 2 blood transfusions, UTI appears to be clearing up, Fever has broken, cousin concerned talking "gibberish" /hallucinating I say results of after affects anesthesia and morphine for pain Prayers felt and thank you to keep them coming Love you all, Ruthie

:faint: WOW that was fast but you never cease to amaze me !! :wave2:princess: It looks so yummy now what is it and how do I make it ???

Thanks about Aunt Mary

The elderberry drink was mine. The gibson martini at the back was franandaj's.

I took the picture in November, when I was in California and spent time with Fran and Alison. We just ordered it and the server brought it to us. :thumbsup2

May have to take the picture to a bartender I know and figure it out looks like I have to try this :thumbsup2 (the elderberry)

So much has been going on I just looked over at the calendar ( I LOVE a wall calendar every electronic thing can be down but the wall calendar is steady, reliable, & true for me) and can hardly believe the Month of May is almost over Are you KIDDING me ? Feels like in some ways we were just saying Happy New Year :faint:

Anyway Fred left Monday Morning May 20 and last I showed you he was zonked out on the recliner with a stuffed Pluto on his lap and the almost 14 y/o real life Pointer "Fantasia" on the recliner next to him I smile everytime I say her name she was born about 10 mos before my Dad passed in July 2000 so he knew her

He was mock horrified when I named her "WHAT ???? You're going to name a DOG after that beautiful film ??" You think I'm an animal nut ? I definitely got it from him ::yes::

Well Fred is not still sitting in that chair we did say our Goodbyes that Monday, but before than we had our day at AK Originally since he got home on a later day then expected and I wasn't in the best of shape we decided that Sunday would be THE day Begin AK THEN I so wanted to end the day at EPCOT F & G; even though I knew it would be crazy and always advise people NOT to go there on a weekend it was the LAST day, this was it, now or never

I had heard so many good things the Capt Hook Live Topiary, the rum spiced Dole Whip I wanted to try and especially to see the butterfly area

I LOVE butterflies I get chills when I see them in the morning floating so so gently near my horse's hooves The picture of the oh so delicate and fragile near the oh so powerful and majestic The contrast in beauty amazes me Its hopeful and peaceful to me

So head for the butterflies That was the plan (oh that evil sinister word yet again that always always seems to bite me lately :mickeybar <-----makes me feel like this sometimes :rotfl: )

That drink looks Ahhhhh-mazing!!!!!!!!! I want one too!

I love the story about how you named Fantasia, and that she knew your dad... That has to be comforting.

I am very curious to hear about how your day went and if everything went as planned...

D~

When we took Selah (our oldest granddaughter) to the butterfly exhibit a year ago April, one landed on her finger which made her day! i'll try and get a photo posted. Hope you made it there. Don't keep us in suspense too long!

While I was busy grousing about the slow weight loss, I failed to mention the many benefits my new way of eating DID provide. For one, I no longer desire sweets. I was completely addicted, to the point of hiding the chocolate and the evidence of it from Dan. I had to have it EVERY SINGLE DAY! Now, I don't even think about it. Another thing is, I am getting more and better sleep. I used to average 5 hours a night and waking up frequently. Now I average 7 hours a night and pretty much sleep through the night without waking. Also, my daily fibro pain is much less severe and I even have days here and there with no pain. I have more energy and my thinking is more clear. So I didn't want you to think there were no benefits to following my dietary restrictions. And, sadly, the pizza you mention would be great...if I could have cheese. As a rule, I don't eat any processed (meaning boxed/packaged) food if I can help it. If I was alone as much as you, it would probably be a different story.::yes::

I don't like the sound of Aunt Mary talking nonsense. I hope and pray she recovers. You hang in there and know that she feels your concern and prayers. I'm sure of it.

I think about you every day, hoping you are getting stronger with less pain!

Weight loss is SO hard, especially as we get older! I've been trying so hard but it's very slow! It could be that occasional ice cream donut etc that gets in my way!

I'm keeping Aunt Mary in my prayers with the hope she's doing much better very soon. The gibberish may go away when she's discharged and home. She may just become disoriented while in the hospital. Her day and night are so disturbed and many "older folks" have what we call "sun downers" while inpatient.

All of the Dis meets sound great! Anyone else plan to be in disney October 19-29,2014? That's the plan for us!

I hope Everyone has a great day! Love...

So happy your Aunt Mary is progressing. UTI's are known for making elderly mind play games. It happened to my Gram, my Mom and even my FIL. very common. Also the med professionals explained to us that elderly being in ER's or ICU's tend to make them confused and is often a concern with the family. My FIL thought he was back in the Korean War. Then back to his childhood summer home. :confused3 We were able to laugh about it later. Hopefully she will be fine soon.

I love that your Dad knew Fantasia. My Dad was able to meet our fur baby also. I wish my Mom had.

Can't wait to hear more about F&G.

Yes, the beverage posted here looks.....YUMMY!

Hope things are better for you Ruthie. continued prayers.

How exciting ! Never had one actually land on me, but I do love them

I am so very happy that the new way of eating has had such benefits for you I was so very afraid with such restricted movements here that I would end up gaining a lot of weight (I was am and always will be a comfort food seeker in ONE year after my Dad died I went from 155 to 224 :crazy2: (those are pictures I should probably burn ) so glad that I only gained 5 or 6 pounds since end of Jan :cheer2: and that will come off when I get back to a normal schedule Whoa didn't realize about cheese for you, there is NO way I could ever give that up, not the processed wanna be garbage they pass off as cheese in most stores but fresh mozzarella for me is a MUST

I don't like the sound of Aunt Mary talking nonsense. I hope and pray she recovers. You hang in there and know that she feels your concern and prayers. I'm sure of it.

address condition re-this below

I think about you every day, hoping you are getting stronger with less pain!

Good days and bad Ruth..same as you and everyone else I AM getting stronger though if I have pain its intense OR I don't have it at all; know I'm improving very much :)

This makes sense to me and throw morphine into the mix and I think it causes much of it too...unfortunately she won't be going home, every time she has surgery with her fiit/leg she ends up going to a rehab place...which I know of course she needs for learning to walk & wound care, but just prolongs that unsettled feeling :sad2:

All of the Dis meets sound great! Anyone else plan to be in disney October 19-29,2014? That's the plan for us!

Can NOT wait...definitely plan more time together next time and idea where you are planning to stay this time? Same place ?

I hope Everyone has a great day! Love...

Yes Dee this makes sense to me Cousin said she was talking about as a child I was tempted to tell her to take notwes or record her as this is family history she never talks about.....she's usually too concerned about everyone and everything else...poor sweet lady

I love that your Dad knew Fantasia. My Dad was able to meet our fur baby also. I wish my Mom had.
