I’m thinking some other owners who are in the miserable situation of owning contracts with two different use years will appreciate this story.

Here goes: I wanted to go for a week in the summer of 2019. This will require me to borrow 2020 points from both my contracts, which precludes me from transferring points between contracts. The week and location I want required 287 points. Through some amazing luck I just happened to have 117 2020 points on one contract and 170 2020 on the other. What luck! I had the exact number of points necessary. But of course those of you will two use years will know that the exact number of points doesn’t do you any good if the nightly points don’t break out perfectly between contracts such that you can use them all. You could still be short points which is intensely frustrating. Well, it turns out the first three nights of my stay totaled 117 and the last four nights were 170!!! Holy cow! I felt like I hit the lottery!

In this situation they can transfer the points and often will on a case by case basis, esp if you need to get points together for a single night.

Yes but often it depends on which MS Advisor you get. We have had MS tell us that it can't be done and once after we transferred from UY to the other, we were told that the points didn't exist and it took some time and a supervisor to find our points. Since then we never transfer and all of our new contracts have an October UY only.

It’s case by case but there is some variability. DVC is nothing if not consistently inconsistent.

Go buy a lottery ticket today!!!

Remind me if we ever add on to do everything I can to keep the same use year.....that sounds like a nightmare to manage.

IMO it's basically the same as balancing a checkbook. For most it's best to be the same if possible but there are situations where it's better if it's not and situations where it's the lessor of evils such as a difficult to find home resort or contract (VGF, VGC, subsidized). If they're both full sized and you'll use them independently anyway, it can be an advantage with additional transfer options and wait list spots plus the ability to target a given trip to the UY if you travel at specific times during the year that are quite different.

WE have two UY...our AKL points are February and our Aulani points are March (we were watching for a February resale, but purchased this one because of the subsidized dues).

We plan to use them independently of each other, but like that the ability is there to transfer if needed!
