A group of us “old Disneyana”/DVC’ers will be at WDW on November 7th and have set up a tour with the Disney Institute. The tour is called “Innovations in Action” :goodvibes . We must have 20 people signed up to take this tour as this is not your “regular” back stage tour but, instead a rather detailed tour that is not generally offered to the public. The cost for this 3 hour tour is $99 and it will take you to the “Utilidors” beneath the Magic Kingdom, to the Tree Farm to see how they do those wonderful topiaries are created and to the second largest laundry facility in the world:laundy: (laundry? – can you only imagine how much laundry they create at Disney World) along with some other fascinating facts.
For those interested or who would like more information please click on the link provided here and register directly with the Disney Institute. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of new people. :cheer2:

Urrrr. ...my DH and I will arrive at WDW Saturday November 8th.....if we were there on the 7th, we would have joined the tour. Sounds like a great time, let me know if the date changes. Have fun:)

I'm afraid that the date is pretty well set in stone as many of the "origina'l" planning group is leaving for a cruise on the 8th. Sorry.:sad2:

I'm in...oh, wait, you already know that.

To give everyone background on how this came about - Every other year, a group of us plan this Disney "Unconvention." Many of the group met during DIsneyana (a merchandise event that Disney held for many years). This year we're doing the segway tour in Ft. Wilderness, a sweet Sunday, Party of the Senses, a miniature golf tournament among a bunch of other things. We have anywhere from ten to forty people. Participation is voluntary in any of the planned activities.

Usually we only stay a few days in November (we're always there on Halloween) but we changed the dates since some of the group were leaving on the cruise. Some of the group are arrving on Oct. 29 (so we can do the MNSSHP on the 30th) and staying until Nov. 11. The Unconvention runs officially from Nov. 1 thru the 7th.

Mary & I are excited, too, because we'll be able to go to the Festival of the Masters. We usually miss it by a week.

Can you tell me how this is different from the Keys to the Kingdom tour at the Magic Kingdom? We did that tour last year. It was ok, but we wanted to see more of the workings of Disney.

Unfortunately, I have never been on the Keys to the Kingdom tour so I may not be able to give you the best comparison. From what I have read of the K to K tour, it seems as though it is primarly a Magic Kingdom tour. The Innovations in Action tour is done by one of the Disney Institute facilitator and does include some things similar to that of the K toK tour however I believe it to be much more in depth. I understand that will we will be boarding a coach to visit the tree farm where they create the topiaries and also to the laundry facility. I have heard that the laundry facility in itself is quite a tour when you think of all the laundry that WDW creates in a day. Somewhere I read that if you did 44 load of laundry a day every day of the year it would still not be the amount of laundry WDW does in one day. I don't feel that these are things that are common to the regular backstage tours offered to the general public.
I am looking forward to going to the Utildors. Something I have always wanted to see.
If you have other questions I'm sure you could call the Disney Institute and refer your questions to them.
