A skeptical family of First-Timers take on WDW Nov 15-22** NOV 28 update

I feel lost if I have to go to another stylist. She's been cutting mine and my mom's hair for almost 20 years. :):lovestruc

Here's a pic of David in Korea last year (he's the one on the right.)

Maybe it's just me, but I thought this was funny not because we might think your husband was Korean - a possibility - but that we might think your husband's job was to travel to Korea, dress up in ancient armor and pose with American tourists. :lmao:

Glad to hear your Disney trip didn't have to be completely rearranged. Disney trip planning requires so much advanced planning that a change like that makes you feel like total chaos will ensue. Even small changes like a delayed flight can feel like the end of the world.

I'm not sure. Ask your husband about it? Mine had to go over there and I know the winters get COLD, as in snow and ice. Not sure how cold it is by October, but it's gotta be colder than Florida.

And that Korean guy is cute! He looks like somebody's dad! But unless your husband works as a re-enactor or something, I figured yours was the one on the right. Is that Korean Folk Village, by the way? I never got to visit it when I went over there.

Now that I think about it, last year when he went he did wear a jacket every day so it will be nice to be in FL, I hope. I hope we don't get a cold snap in Fl this year to the point where the kiddos can't swim.
That's funny about the possibility of David being a re-enactor:lmao: Nope just a regular white guy tourist!
You know, I'll have to ask him where this photo was taken, I can't remember. He did go to a Korean version of Disneyland (more or less) while he was there though.

So glad you didn't have to change your dates. I am always afraid that I will have to change on account of some family emergency. Boy do I know what it is like leaving your clients:eek::eek:. We went to WDW the day after Thanksgiving last year. I worked the day before and 1/2 day the day after. To accommodate the weekly ladies. Well, one forgot it was Friday:confused3 so she for got to come. That evening I am sitting at dinner in Georgia and who calls?:rolleyes1 Yep, the lady who didn't show up. She says can I come back and do her hair and then go back?:worship: Uh? NO!:scared1: I am 5 hours away. I will be back to work next Saturday. She is upset. Would you believe she called me 2 more times that week wanting me to come back e I have already been preparing them for Jan.31-Feb.7. She is not happy. Oh well we have a life too. They don't realize some off the things that we do for them. I set my hours around my family also not just my 12 year old but my Mother who lives in Tennessee. I have to go there on the spur of the moment sometimes.

Wow. Persistent client! amazing that she would want you to come back!

Your salon looks so cute and cozy! Thank goodness you didn't have to change all those plans it would have been so stressful! And that picture of your DH is awesome.

Your movie night idea was great! I'm so glad to hear that your kids enjoyed it...that's a good sign! ;) What movie will you do next?

Thanks! Not sure of the movie yet but maybe Swiss Family Robinson or Bug's life?

I learner how to subscribe!! yeah!! Thanks for showing me how!! Now your my first;):lmao:

You betcha!

I love your salon. My sister is a stylist, owns a Fantastic Sams in Colorado...being owner makes it hard for her to slip away. I sure wish I could find a sylist that I like and can be loyal too!

:scared1:So glad that dh could work everything out...that would be awful trying to rearrange everything!

:rotfl2:I love your description of your first movie night...kinda sounds like ours! I would suggest Toy Story...pizza...teenagers...2 big rides!?!

Good idea about Toy Story. I have no idea why I haven't even thought of that one yet. duh? I LOVE LOVE the potato heads!

I feel lost if I have to go to another stylist. She's been cutting mine and my mom's hair for almost 20 years. :):lovestruc

awwww. It's nice to find a hairdresser that you can trust! 20 years is awesome!

:lmao::lmao: That's too funny. Nope, David isn't Korean nor does he have a clue about ancient armor. Funny!!

Well hello everybody!
I just went to the Disney site and it says I've got 65 days to go:banana:

65 days sounds pretty far away but then it really doesn't. It's kind of weird. As it gets closer I'm going to start getting some anxiety I'm sure. I get really weird about the flying thing. Not so much once I'm on the plane and we're in the air but more of getting to the airport on time, checking luggage, security, hoping they didn't screw up seat assignments, yada yada. I'm already getting little twinges of anxiety about that now so I can't imagine as we get closer.

Luckily I've had alot going on so I haven't been able to obsess over my trip and read the boards a whole lot. I actually think it's good that I've been so busy because it makes the time go faster. David got a surprise bonus from work that we never expected in a million years so I turned my Disney obsession into a "how to blow his bonus money obsession":lmao: (I already paid off the trip which I'm thrilled with) So.... We ordered new living room furniture:banana: The stuff we have now is 14 years old and the couch is so sunken that you have to practically have someone pull you out to get out of the giant "hole". The shopping for furniture took up a few of my days since that's such a huge project to go all over town and look at stuff. I swear I spent a solid week or two just trying to decide and going back and forth to different furniture stores. But the good news is that the mission was accomplished and we'll be getting exactly what I want delivered in a few weeks:banana: So, now I need another thing to focus my energy on to get me through the next 8 weeks (nothing that involves spending money though:scared1:) If I was smart, I'd focus on losing some weight and getting my butt out for some long walks to train for Disney! Now that school has started, I may really really try to start walking again. I'm so utterly out of shape it isn't funny!

On another note....I've seen little bits of excitement about the upcoming trip coming out of my Skeptic husband. Just little tiny bits mind you, but I think he's coming right along. The other day I was going through Heathsf and Momabaarjo's trip reports and I called him in just to look at a couple photos. I showed him one or two of Momabaarjo's movie night pics (mainly the food) and he's like "oh, that's cool" and he got especially excited about their Tom and Huck choices. I really expected him to say "oh geez, don't get any ideas" but he thought it was cool how other families prepped for Disney trips! And then I showed him some of Heathsf's food pics and he was like "wow! that looks good". Up until this point he refused to even let me explain Disney food and how they actually have restaurants there. (he still is in the mindset of it all being funnel cakes and corndogs). Ok....so it gets better......

The other day I had to work pretty late and he was off that day. I had told him that I rented "Swiss Family Robinson" and wanted to watch it as a family when I got off work. A couple hours later I get a text at work that he's going to make dinner in sort of a "theme". :lmao::lmao: Well, he ended up doing some sort of shrimp and fries and fruit dessert thing to go along with the shipwrecked on an island effect! See Momabaarjo, you inspired my skeptic!! Oh....and when I walked in the door he had a big ol' pineapple ready to be cut up and a drink in my most favorite Disney wine glass ever! It's my only Disney glass but I love love it because it brings back such good memories of my trip back in Feb with Julie.
Here's a photo

I'm just so excited that he is sort of getting into all this:cloud9:
oh...and I loved the movie Swiss Family Robinson. I guess I've never really seen it before or don't remember it anyway. I know the TreeHouse at MK isn't a big deal but I figured at one point we'd run into it and the kids would be clueless so now they at least know the story behind it.

I think next weekend I want to do Nemo or Peter Pan. I wonder what "theme" dinner David will think up.

Uh,oh! I see another family of mousejunkies forming. Can't wait to see you all decked out in your matching outfits! :rotfl2:

I am going to be really, really curious to see how your family responds to Disney. Makes me wish we could meet up with you at some point during the trip!

Just so you let him know - Fish is not an appropriate meal to serve while watching Finding Nemo! Remember "Fish are friends - NOT FOOD!"

Trust me Pete, there is NO WAY I'd ever ever get hubster to agree to matching t-shirts!! He may surprise me every now and then but if I dare mention matching shirts he'd have me hauled away by the whitecoats:lmao:
But, trust me, if the miracle should happen, I'll be sure to post a photo on my report!!

So true about the Nemo movie food! That would be creepy to be eating fish. um??? what would go good with that movie? WEll, who cares, as long as I have an alcoholic beverage in my Mickey glass, whatever food items he comes up with will be fine!

LOLing @ the bit about Nemo food. Maybe you could just pretend you're sharks? Or serve shark? (Are sharks endangered?) Or serve something Australian, like... um... vegemite? I have no idea. :lmao:

I forget - did you book any restaurants? If your husband is a foodie, he's going to LOVE Epcot. Show him even more pictures of food!

You know what, I'm not going to worry about eating fish for our Nemo dinner. I hope David does make a big fish and shrimp feast as a matter of fact:rotfl: I love me some fish with lemon pepper and butter!

The funny thing is that David really is a true foodie but he wont admit it for some reason. When I was on the ADR kick I kept asking him for input but he'd be like "oh, I don't care where we eat, just pick. Disney isn't all about the food is it?" Well......he talks like that yet he'd be the first one in the family to complain about the same ol' counter service all the time and would be drooling over all the nice places. I know him better than he knows himself so of course I picked some good ADRs. I do have a link on my first page that will take you to the ADR segment of this pre trippie.
He is going to LOVE LOVE all the food at World Showcase! He loves to watch the food network and try new recipes and he's all about the presentation and detail whereas I'm the one in the house that throws stuff together just to get it on the table. I know that without a doubt, he's going to love eating at Disney and he's going to be very surprised because he really doesn't have any ideas about the food there. Like I said, he's picturing typical theme park food. I just can't wait to report back on how much he liked it all!!

I don't like the whole matching outfits either. We were at MK for opening once and there was a family in line with these matching Disney Hawaiian shirt-like outfits. (Shorts too.) Mom, Dad, kids, everything. Then I noticed about five ticket gates down was another family wearing the EXACT SAME OUTFITS! I turned to my wife and said "Wow, that's a bit awkward! - 'Honey, you told me we'd be the only ones wearing these!' "

Nemo movie food - I would vote for "Shrimp on the Barbie"... sea-themed and Australia themed. Shrimp don't play much of a role in the movie, just Jaque the cleaner shrimp there in the tank gang.

Definitely no vegemite  yuk!

Aimee - have you seen the Food Porn thread? I am a subscriber :)

nope, I have not seen that thread but I'm definately going to go check it out!! Not so much for me, but for ammunition to show David so he'll really be able to see that it's NOT all corndogs and funnel cakes at Disney!

Oh, I check it every time I log onto the DIS. Along with This one. The POTD really gets me in a Disney mood. Those photographers over there are fantastic. They find things and angles that I'd never think of, and I make mental notes to look for those things when we go. It always make me feel like I don't take the time to stroll slowly and take in everything.

ooooh, I'm going to totally look more at that thread of photos!!
I changed my mind about David seeing any food porn photos because I actually decided that I think I'd prefer him to be pleasantly surprised by how superb everything at Disney is! I'll let him keep thinking about cheap carnival food and then he can praise and worship:worship: me once he really sees what all I've got planned.

Sounds like the movie nights are really a hit in your house!!! It's nice that your husband was getting into it. Like Pete - I can't wait to hear how your family responds once they get there!

I so understand where you are coming at up here in the Panhandle of our great state! Less than 2 inches of anything since last fall...we are dying up here and the temps are not helping. I believe we are now over 45 days of 100 plus temps for this summer...and no end in site. We have friends who work at the National Weather Service...they are seeing no breaks in this pattern through September and possibly October.

Ok, I'm so behind in my TRs, but I wanted to post before I forgot!! Where are you in the Panhandle? I'm in Pampa & LOVING the cooler weather lately!!

Well......that's not entirely the case. David did GET INTO the cooking portion and then snoozed through most of the movie. As a matter of fact, we've had 2 movie nights so far and he's slept through both of them:lmao:

But....that's ok. He's an old geezer. Me and the kids are enjoying the movies!

I am so glad that I could help your skeptical husband get into the Disney spirit...even if he sleeps through it (just like my dh most movie nights)! I feel honored to be mentioned...have to give credit to Lisa (Becc1) for being my inspiration! :scared1:He saw mine and my children's cooking and got inspired?

OMG...yes! Too cool to find a neighbor here on the DIS! I am in Amarillo...WOW...marathon trip...I am impressed! Looks like our trips are overlapping...how fun is that!
