A Simple Guide to Making an Autograph Book

I don't know how many of you would think to bring your autograph books to the waterparks, but... Lilo and Stitch are appearing regularly this summer at Typhoon Lagoon, and Goofy is at Blizzard Beach. :goodvibes

For those of you looking for a good deal for printing your pages as photos:

Get 150 prints for $15 at Snapfish, just use coupon code MEMDAY10 by June 6.

This will be great for all of you who are trying to do multiple books! :goodvibes

Does anyone have the Epcot passport word file & instructions? If someone wouldn't mind emailing it to me at fast43@msn.com I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

My next question - how to bind them and carry them into the parks?? My DH nixed the idea of the spiral binding at Kinko's. We often put the autographs in a little photo album for the kids with their picture with the character on the opposing page (we used blank notecards for gathering autographs). I'm a little lost as to how to keep them together in the parks now! Any ideas?

I actually came up with a solution for my problem and thought I'd share in case anyone else had the same issue. By complete chance, I was in JoAnne's on Monday and wandered over to their albums section. I found these small "brag books" for 99 cents that hold 60 4x6 pictures! I was so excited (especially at the 99 cents part, as I'm making four of them)! They've got solid-color covers made of thin plastic, and they're very much small enough to carry around. I now can keep my pictures together and not have to worry about binding them! I've even figured out how to make a little personalized cover and section titles for each kid. I'll post pictures once I get them done...

That sounds perfect for you! I can't wait to see the pics! :goodvibes

For those of you making multiple books, Snapfish is having a buy 1 photobook get 1 free sale! Just use coupon GRADBOOKS at checkout. Hurry, the offer expires June 14. :goodvibes

Thanks for the update LittleMissMagic! I put your link under the Character Meal category in Post #1! :goodvibes

I'm afraid it's one page at a time. Be sure to expand them to their larger size before you save them - don't save the thumbnail size. :goodvibes

It may be too late, but if you go to her (Natalie's) 4shared account instead she has them all in a zip file that will download all at once.

I'm devastated and need help quickly! Here's my story in a nut shell: decided to make my autograph books through Artscow. I submitted my order mid April. I grew increasingly anxious by the end of May thinking I wouldn't receive my books in time. I contacted them and was informed there was a fire incident that damaged some files, which caused a delay in the production of my books. Still a week and a half later from when I contacted them no word on my books. We have a friend who lives in Hong Kong nearby their facility that could speak Cantonese Chinese to them, so he contacted them for me to find out what was going on. He was informed my order would be done in a couple of days and it would be expressed shipped. I then received another email stating what my friend had heard except the information about the shipping was changed--they would see about sending it express. I replied back stating if it wasn't expressed shipped, I wouldn't receive it on time. A week later, which was last Monday, I received an email stating my order had been shipped (but only by regular postal mail). As of yesterday, still hadn't received my books, but I got a new email from Artscow stating that my order wouldn't be shipped to me because it contained Disney images that were copyrighted so they were cancelling the order (even though multiple people on this board have used Artscow and these very same images). I sent an email back saying I was confused because I had received an email last week informing me my entire order had already been shipped. They replied again stating only one of my books (out of three) was ready and they were waiting on the other two to ship the order (even though I received an email last week telling me the entire order was shipped). Now they are stating they'll refund my order, not by credit card that I used mind you, but by cash. Nervous about getting that back. So long story...sorry, but I am so incredibly frustrated. I spent a lot of time (and late nights) working on those books for nothing.
Now I've wasted all kinds of time when I could have been making my own version at home. We leave Monday. Is it possible I can get it done?
1. If I get them printed and cropped today, will Kinkos be able to bind them tomorrow? Wasn't sure how long Kinko's needed (drop off in morning--ready by evening, or do they need an entire day? Not sure if they're open Sun. Since we leave first thing Mon. morning, I would have to have it done by Sat. night if they're not open on Sun.)
2. Is the cover difficult to make? I read the instructions--copy my cover onto cardstock, then adhere to chipboard (can I easily find at Hobby Lobby?) Will Kinko's laminate this--wasn't sure if they would because of the thickness.
Sorry this was sooooo long.

I am so sorry about what happened. Are you thinking of doing these with photos now?

I don't know anything about how Kinkos operates and their turnaround times, but could you maybe burn the images you want onto a CD and take them into a 1 hour photo/24 hour photo place for them to be printed, then work like crazy over the weekend to get them made? You could bind them with the scrapbook jump rings instead of waiting for them to be bound. Not what you need when you are trying to get packed and organized for your trip! :headache:

As for the refund, I would also be nervous about cash, but I would be more nervous about giving over my card details again for a refund. I do find it quesionable though. How will they know if you recieve it or if it gets lost in the mail? I would question this as I am not too sure it is ethical practice :scared1:

Sorry I am not really any help, but can offer you some moral support if that helps.

Thanks for the support. I think I'm mostly frustrated by the run around I'm getting. Also, I'm very leery of getting refunded by cash. Sounds very shady to me. Anyway, I've played around w/ the cards on my printer. I tried printing them front and back to reduce on bulkiness, but really struggling to get margins right. Time constraints aren't going to allow me to play w/ it and get it right. I had planned on taking my little girl to get her allergy shot, getting last minute things needed from Wal-Mart for trip, hair cuts, packing, house cleaned--now I'm adding making these books...agh!
I think I'm going w/ your suggestion and going to turn them into photos for the sake of time. Haven't heard of the jump rings before; what are they?

If I lived near you I would come over and help  with whatever you needed so you could do your books.

I also tried doing the back to back thing and didn't manage so I decided to just print photos.

(I just got them today and the quality is great but I selected them not to be cropped so they have used the full image, but cut the actual photo so not all the cards are the same size :rolleyes1 I obviously didn't know what I was asking for).

I find it a little odd that they challenged you on the copyright issue. I have done 3 photobooks and never had a problem, and so many people on here have used Artscow and never had an issue. I don't think they ever really check as it is all done electronically/digitally now so yours may have come up in a random check or due to the chaos which may have forced them to manually carry out some tasks. Still, it's not like you had left it to the last minute to order :sad2:

I know you are pressed for time now but please let us know how you manage. I am a bit of a newbie on this board so I am not the best person to offer help with designs - only what I have learnt from what I did (and what I did wrong).

:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

I greatly appreciate your sweet thoughts; amongst all the craziness you've made me smile and feel better. I keep telling myself, "You can do this, you can do this." Ha! Ha!
When you printed your photos, did you use Wal-Mart or Walgreens or some other? They're the same price, but I don't want to come across another copyright issue.
I think you hit the nail on the head--since they had to manually go through my pictures because they said the fire damaged some files, they noticed mine were Disney. I think they just push everyone else's order through and don't notice it's Disney because gobs of people on this forum have used Artscow w/ these very same images.
